trailer 2 always looked weird to me especially michaels face but trailer 1 looks better than the launch version

Maybe there were more trees in it, but trailer 1 was unfinished and absolutely looked worse than the final game visually. Some frames of that trailer literally showed holes in the map.

Trailer 1 literally had holes in the map (a major one obscured by sped up footage and motion blur too), and so did a couple of promotional screens - there's a screen with Trevor on a quadbike where buildings are just missing :prismkek: RDR2 didn't really have this issue with its marketing, the game was a bit more polished when it was first announced, excepting some medium to major differences in mountain areas (those were shuffled around A LOT during development) and the GTA V trees they were reusing. It was definitely still a far-from-final art pass, but it didn't look as early and rough as GTA V did when it was revealed versus the final game.

I'm assuming, especially given how vicious gamers can be nowadays with early footage of games, that R* will be wanting to show a relatively "polished" (polish is relative, there is visual polish all the way to weeks before release) version of the game (or at least specific areas/subjects/missions/cutscenes) for an announcement, trailer or screenshots.

one good thing about rockstars marketing is that they dont bullsh*t the graphics like how other companies do upon initial reveal of a new game(watchdogs e3 2012 comes to mind)

I just know as soon as that trailer drops some dude is gonna be like "Wtf they shrunk Lucia's ass! It's so small compared to what we saw in the leak!!"

GTAV's first trailer looked reeeeaaaaallllyyy bad. I remember the mountains had random trees shoved in everywhere for "visual appeal" and it looked hilarious:kekw: Plus the draw distance and frame rate was abysmal.

Her a** will 100% be flatter than notebook paper when it's released. They don't want the backlash of the first female protagonist being objectified by her body and the men not taking her seriously as the thiefing sociopathic murdering drug dealer as she's meant to be /s :prismkek:

One thing I found weird in one of the clips is that in that diner robbery clip, on the rear end of the car it says "V.C.P.D" but the sides say Port Gellhorn.

Could that VCPD be a place holder or the state might actually be called Vice City State

Seriously I'm glad he leaked it, gave us info about the game after almost a decade while R* continues to be a mime :kekw:

Being serious now, Rockstar only mentioned GTA 6 to calm the players down after they ended the support for RDO and because GTA The Trilogy is sh*t, we didn't even know if the game actually existed back then or if they were just saying any bullsh*t to put down the flames, thanks to the leak at least we know that the beast actually exists and looks good now.

You can think that but I'll throw you another more likely one, because literally every AAA was doing it at the time - post-pandemic hiring storm. Literally all studios were advertising projects early and hiring like hell, and R* started opening a ton of positions after that post in February, just HR operations to attract employees, by mentioning the next title lol. Both HR and PR win.

RDO was only mentioned later in the year, not in February. The "formal" mention of the next GTA game being in development wasn't made at the same time they mentioned toning down support for RDO, that was later in the year in another community update. That post also mentioned the next GTA as being part of the reason, but it wasn't the original "announcement".

To this day they've been opening (and filling!) a crap ton of positions so GTA VI is definitely in full-on, full speed dev as we speak lmao (well not literally but excluding holidays).

GTA The Trilogy already was a known failure back in february (considering its quality, not sales) and RDO was abandoned for more than half a year already, with players constantly questioning them about both things, I'm not saying that you're wrong, you definitely know more about the gaming industry than me, but the leak still was the ultimate confirmation that the game actually existed and was literally well underway like Rockstar said.

I am starting to doubt the shot with the mission stuff, little bit of brightness adjustments on that shot in particular shows the two buildings at the end of the street, just like they are in the game.

uOSpALn.png

Getting the brightness down a bit kinda shows what I meant, now I am not sure if the actual texture on the road is actually messed up or is it the speed of the video.

Q3cUqQe.png

This was bad though and I am not sure why they even picked this for marketing.

Close, but that's not the part I'm talking about - it's right before, while the camera is panning. :p The entire area around the police station is missing, there's a floating road and they tried to obscure that as much as possible with motion blur and by speeding up the footage.

I don't know, it doesn't make sense to me why they'd go through hoops to hide stuff instead of just not using the clip ( very short clip too by the way, there isn't anything important in that first shot), and in that second shot there, they could've just followed the sentinel a few seconds ahead (which they probably did while recording) so the supposedly invisible area is not on screen, I think the low res trailer and the amount of motion blur GTAV has (in most of its promotional assets) are just messing with our heads.

I'd say it was for both reasons, following the trend like other companies and also for some damage control, what you think about the leak though? From your perspective as a player and not from the developers' perspective after getting their work spoiled.

Well, that area is factually missing regardless, it's not a trick of the motion blur, that was the entire point of my post about the GTA V trailer being shot from early in development. You're underestimating marketing video if you think they wouldn't go through "hoops" (which aren't actually that time-consuming) to not make Michael slowly drive through an area that's not finished (so people wouldn't notice the early-dev "defects"). Not to mention we never know how these trailers are made, they could've rushed something out for announcement and not had that many clips to use, especially back then with how crunchy things could get. You yourself even were impressed that they used a screenshot with a hole as marketing lol.

There are references to "trailer builds" from October 2011 in that PS3 leaked file too, so...

The one you pointed out in your post had buildings, but fog was cranked up to hide other unfinished areas. :p According to that same file I mentioned above, GTA V was in pretty damn early development by the time the trailer was released, I'm shocked they even revealed it so early nowadays.

6 minutes ago, MaddenedGhost said:

There's an entire area of the city missing, it's obvious in movement, that was noticed as soon as people went back to watch old trailers when the game released. Not sure why all the questioning.  This is all normal stuff, GTA V barely had a full year of proper development in it when the trailer released... The city would take ages to be fully finished.

I mean I'm a sucker for the technical bits and bobs of game development so seeing all the RAGE debugging function was kind of fascinating. As I commented at the time I think the game looks quite presentable already even if it still has placeholder "capsule" or "play-doh" peds and a lot of things are still very unfinished. A mix of RDR2 (as expected) with some newer stuff, and I can't wait to see how it's gonna look when it's more polished.

No, I actually don't know what's missing from there, I've just loaded my game and other than the fog, which isn't unusual for Rockstar even in their latest screenshots, I don't see anything missing from that particular angle.

I am a bit skeptical about the trailer, the screenshot was quite surprising as I have never noticed it until very recently, but the trailer itself, the more I look at it, the more I think it's just low-res.

Huh. Well, we shall agree to disagree then as I don't wanna get too long about that in this topic nor I care about going into the game on purpose myself just to settle a debate that just seems so obvious to me, even if you somehow don't notice the imperfections. By logic alone that makes no sense as the trailer is dated September?-October 2011 and the screenshot is more recent, and yet still had holes in the map. So what makes you think the older trailer didn't have even more holes and imperfections, because, well, it was a game in early development? The map probably wasn't completed, consistent enough for them to show all kinds of clips in most locations without at least part of the map missing so they had to cut some corners, seems normal to me.

I'm pretty sure it was vastly discussed back then, IIRC a lot of people were shocked at how early the trailer looked later on, but it'll probably be hard to find in the millions of topics made since then about the map and trailers :kekw:(maybe somewhere in the beta hunt too). They didn't repeat something like this then with RDR2, that game looked miles more polished and """complete""" than GTA V when it was revealed.

GTA VI, given how gamers are these days, will probably be shown in a more polished state than normal as well, which could be one of the reasons we might be getting a trailer from somewhere later in development, or at least more carefully curated than GTA V's.

It's interesting how GTA 5's foundation was GTA 4 and RDR2's foundation was RDR1 so to speak, but now GTA 6 looks like it's being built on top of RDR2 because everything is made by Rockstar Studios just like RDR2 was, I know that this explanation is a little incorrect but I don't know how to describe it better lol, I think some of you may understand what I mean.

RDR2's base also V, early dev footage and screenshots shown in one of those GDC presentations show V's squared radar in RDR2's early dev days, I'd say every game after IV was a mix of all they got.

Yeah it's always kind of a mix, when Max Payne 3 released, it had GTA IV and RDR1 (yup!) stuff in it, alongside some GTA V early engine stuff in it too, including handling lines and so on that leaked in the Xbox 360 files. GTA V was based off IV but also some of the developments they did for MP3, plus GTA V specific stuff of course.

RDR2 was pretty much based off GTA V yeah, and VI was likely based off a mix of both V and RDR2 (plus new stuff of course) much like what happened with MP3/GTA V.
