GTA 6 Speculation & Discussion [Part 8] - The Rabbit Hole

I'm normally pretty pessimistic when it comes to the whole THIS IS THE YEAR type stuff regarding GTA and Rockstar as a whole but 2023 feels like the year GTA 6 could very much be "formally" announced, trailer and everything, especially if we're going off the random comments from Rockstar specifically this year and of course the Bloomberg report which so far has been 100% accurate.

"Industry analysts anticipate that the next Grand Theft Auto will be out sometime in Take-Two's 2024 fiscal year, which runs from April 2023 through March 2024, but developers are skeptical. The game has been in development in some form since 2014. Although there are loose schedules in place, people interviewed for this article said they didn't know of any firm release date and that they expect the game to be at least two years away."

Personally feel like it could go 1 of 2 ways:

Announcement later in 2023 with some sort of release in late 2024.

OR (slightly pessimistic)

Announcement in 2024 with a release either the same year, pushing MAYBE 2025.

Only reason for the latter is Rockstar's rework in management and the reduce in crunch, maybe leading to a shorter road to release from the announcement. I think it was pretty obvious the notorious delays Rockstar always pushed with their titles was because of management issues which of course led to crunch. If the workplace is much more healthy and less crunch-dependent chances are GTA 6 will have a set release date and stick to it all the way until release with no delays, but if that's the case it probably means we'll get a proper announcement with a release date way closer to what's speculated; 2024 - 2025 - probably a year away from when they announce the date, sorta like RDR2 minus the delays.

Noticed another smaller detail, don't know if it has been brought up. In the waffle house robbery clip, you can see red/blue police lights "bleeding" onto the screen on the bottom/bottom left edge, which seems to indicate the direction police backup is coming from. As the camera moves around, the lights orient themselves toward the police, who are currently off-screen behind the player. Until they finally turn around to face them and the siren lights disappear. Cool detail and imho adds even more if they are going for a more immersive style to the HUD overall. Not sure if it is the same in GTA V as well - I last played like....8 years ago? :D

Well, just took a look at the clip, and I believe you're absolutely right on the money. That's a pretty good catch. Can't believe I never noticed it :kekw:

I picked up on that too. I agree that it would be for the immersive minimalist HUD approach.

Everything about this game screams realistic and immersive which I'm really digging!

I do have a feeling the no radar mode, with the points of interest appearing on screen when you're close are gonna be the new GTA default and may even be one of the advertising points. A radarless GTA where you explore on your own volition, have visual signals like that about police, points of interest and perhaps other things like waypoints. We'll certainly still have a pause menu map and waypoints but I bet it'll be shown differently - instead of being available to you at all times maybe you have to go on your phone or pause the game.

There was footage with a radar however, so I'd assume this would be something that you can toggle. I'd go for the new experience to try it out tbh, maybe the game will ask you at startup even.

I'm kinda hoping they bring back GPS speech like in IV, totally rendered the in-game radar useless when I could just listen to GPS directions to get around the map.

Anyone still in the rabbit hole? Yeah...I am.

I know some of the connections between Port Gellhorn relating to Martha Gellhorn and Ernest Hemingway (Key West, FL etc.) have already come through and been discussed at length here and on Reddit as well. Found an additional little interesting detail.

Martha Gellhorn wrote a novel in 1944 titled "Liana".

The story centers on Liana, who is described as a mulatto, or what we now call mixed-race. She marries Marc Royer, a wealthy white man on a fictional French Caribbean island called Saint Boniface.

In the book, Liana's mother is called...Lucie.
The book cover:

There is more interesting stuff related to this. Could there be some inspiration behind this to Lucia's character? :D

or...do I need help?

#gta6soon

EDIT: not saying this is like "OMG NEW INFO FOUND THIS OR THAT CONFIRMED!!", but there is definitely a feeling of following in the writer's footsteps uncovering stuff like this. :D

R* might not have planned a treasure hunt/ARG type thing for promotional purposes, but there is definitely more stuff to find out if you dig deep enough.

100% agree, I think this will be the most customisable and accessible GTA with plenty of options for the player to toggle and customise to there liking to create there own experience.

Yeah I'm with you on the new minimal experience and trying that out, I am a creature of habit though and will probably still utilise the radar map.

Hasn’t 2025 been predicted anyway by “insiders” and even a few people on this forum? It shouldn’t be shocking if that’s the case now :modkek:

Another sighting of the updated eCola graphic. In the clip where they are testing door mechanics with Lucia I am assuming, the one with the gumball machine (sorry I do not have the clip titles). At one point when they walk in, on the left side of the screen right above the baskets you can clearly see it as a poster on the wall. Different style tho.

Still what I said is also about the insiders part. And Idk, I was there in the speculation topic for few months and haven't seen anything logical about 2025, most of them were just IT'S GOING TO BE 2025 IF YOU HAVE DIFFERENT OPINNION YOU DIE. And literally all arguments standing behind them were that RDR 2 and GTA V were announced 2 years before release 🗿

Edit: Only argument that people can make about 2025 and they still don't make it maybe despite few people are that insiders words from half a year ago "at least two years away" and that they are skeptical about Fiscal 2024 release which ends in March 2024, and even this argument is very discussable and almost never used as argument for 2025. Edit 2: (I decided to explain why it can't be used as solid argument and probably why it's never used) After all they are skeptical about release in first quarter of 2024, there are still 3 quarters of 2024 left, almost one year. Also what you need to add to your thinking when you think about what they said is that they (insiders) were saying was most likely based on their own view on what they currently saw in the studio, and what they saw if not still see is post mortem of COVID-19, recent changes in studio managment and crunch policy leading to adaptation issues for some workers (as described in Schreiers article).

Exact same style actually, it's the exact bottle that is in the livery. Same "e" logo and all. :p I believe that had already been noticed a couple pages ago, it's in one of the 2022 clips instead of the 2021 diner one.

The bottle yes, but on a different kind of background style is what I meant. Sorry.

I don't know if this still matters, but Tezfun had commented that they heard from sources about a possible release in late 2023 with delays to 2024. Due to the information being outdated, it is safe to say that the current release window is the end of 2024.

As much as I hate Ubisoft games I want GTA VI to have options like last Ghost Recon games had. In those games If you want you can have everything shown on the map, minimap and even highlighted in the world during gameplay and game mechanics are a bit more simplified OR you can go full spartan mode, disable any help, get rid of UI elements, get rid of markers on the map and 3D highlight of objects of interest in the normal gameplay, enhance AI behavior not only by increasing their speed and accuracy but by actually making them behave smarter, change mode to realistic which introduces quite few new Ubi-Realistic mechanics and amplifies camouflage mechanic by a lot etc.

It would make development take more time but it would cease any discussion like: THIS GAME IS TOO ARCADE-Y AND TOO SIMPLE AND BORING or THIS GAME IS TOO REALISTIC, I DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO STUFF NOT FUN, 1/10. And I would see it as very optimal option considering how long lifespan this game is probably expected to have

Late 2024 is probably a very likely date, but an early 2024 release isn't out of the window just yet (I kinda believe we won't see the typical 1 year delay this time around). So if they announce it early 2023 we might get lucky.

Make of that what you will

Ok, so here's my take on this, specially after watching this video, and I got to say I noticed quite interesting things:

I am not pointing out things that have already been pointed out, so let's make a little timeline of what have been said:

-Before RDR2 was properly announced, they posted a R* logo with no context whatsoever, and from the color/visual id alone we could speculate it was in fact RDR2;
-Now they posted a logo without context 2 days after the update was already live. Sure it's most likely only for the DLC, but it matches the visual id we guess GTA VI would have (+ the 6 heartbeats);
-The whole DLC rabbit theme + gif with those colors + rabbits being hung around Fort Myers;

Here is something I didn't see anyone point out, this forum had already speculated that "Port Gellhorn" as seen in the leaks, is likely based on the actual city of Fort Myers. That's very odd for rabbits to appear in the city GTA 6 may have.
Now let's move on to the DLC references and my actual take:

-Dax mentions that he and the Fooliganz are new in town, so this made me theorize about where they could be from. They have a big resemblance to the redneck stereotype, the craziness of the "florida man", and have references to mexican culture like Lucha Libre (the character Luchadora). And we all know Florida, specially Miami has very strong South American culture because there are many south american immigrants living there. I know they knew Wade and are probably Juggalos like him, but that's what I felt.

-Dax tells Labrat that we (as our online character) "don't seem to know about the eggs in Mount Chilliad". That's still the biggest mystery in GTA V lore that we couldn't figure out. Are they hinting that it is finally gonna be revealed (or finally a final clue)? Are they approaching the mystery and speculation of the eggs the same way we speculate about GTA 6?

-Another stretch maybe, but few lines about the rabbit are quite sus. The one at 2:32 in this video is even more:

"kill, kill, kill, rabbit, rabbit, rabbit, kill, kill, kill."

That's S.O.S in morse code. Let's stay tuned for it.
