Do y'all think GTAVI will sweep the game awards the year it comes out?

It will win seven awards in a row only to loose best action adventure title, best direction, and game of the year to a third person, over-the-shoulder cinematic Sony game. That game's name? God of Tsushima: The Last Horizon.

The only Rockstar game to ever win GOTY at the Geoff Keighley Awards was Red Dead Redemption back when it was not even called the Game Awards. I think it was instead called the Mountain Dew Doritos Memorial Foundation or something like that. Odd times before Keighley decided to outright mimic the prestige and style of the Oscars, only to have his attempts at legitimacy thwarted by Cringey Gamers and Trespassing sh*tposters.

What? Not at all. Back then, it was called the Spike Video Game Awards (VGA Spike/VGX Spike) and R* won for SA in 2004, IV in 2008, RDR in 2010, and V in 2013. In fact, RDR2 was the first mainline R* game to be runners-up at Keighley's show.

At the end of the day, TGA or Spike Awards (or most awards in general) just mean a big bag of sh*t, so nobody should give a f*ck about them.

This was actually so bad (I watched it for the laughs really) that someone at R*, rumour has it that it may have been Sam himself, just stormed their social media to mock the BBC for it :kekw: There's a ton of inaccuracies in it on top of the whole "drama" aspect of it.

For those who are newer in the community - this iconic tweet.

I watched it after the leaks and maybe it just seemed interesting in my desperation for anything GTA because of new material after 9 years.

Really lol?  I had no idea the Spike Awards was before RDR. Also, I could have sworn V lost to the last of us. Well, it is what it is, video game awards are pretty pointless overall. It's always funny to see fans get so worked up over them. I always chuckle to myself when twitter posts claiming X game won X award get thousands of likes and retweets. Like, I can understand it for the Game Awards because, like it or not, at this point it truly has kind of cemented itself as the one BIG video game awards show. The rest of them just seem so pointless. In the last few months I learned about a plethora of game award shows I had no idea even existed. At this point, I'm practically expecting an announcement that some game won an award from the Pyongyang Game Awards Committee lol.

I don't exactly care about the awards but I'll tell you what... I'll be very happy if GTA6's soundtrack can be as good as RDR2's

By analysing the diner robbery video it looks like GTA 6 is reusing GTA 4's wanted system to some extent or it has a new one very similar to it, on GTA 4 you can point your gun at a police officer when you only have a 1 star wanted level and he still won't shoot at you unless you reach the second star or shoot first, he also won't shoot at you if you steal his car, it's very similar to what happens on GTA 6's leak because both on GTA 5 and RDR2 the police starts shooting as soon as you point your gun at them in any circumstance.

It’s looking more and more likely this will be a 2025 game fellas

You're probably right, they'll probably announce it for 2024 first though and then delay it for 2025.

“When it is ready” rockstar 100% won’t make the same mistake with previous titles, this time they really might announce it with a real release date with out delay.

Then be ready to wait some, if they'll release it on 2025 without public delays there's a chance of the game only being announced on 2024.

Tbh there some clips that the graphics looks very much good. Especially the skirt clip. For me personally, I think mid 2024 release is not out of the ordinary.

There's more than just graphics to finish on a game development, also remember this is a game meant to survive for another decade at least, just like GTA 5 is doing, so its graphics and overall mechanics have to be top notch to survive against other games years after its release. I don't think the graphics will be as good as Unreal Engine 5 though, but RAGE has other qualities over it such as way more realistic animatins and physics.

Rockstar said “well under way” most of things like content and whatsoever gonna be done by mid/fall 2023. Also there’s a chance that the graphics is pretty much done, but it’s probably locked due to performance on devs PC, until they fix the technical issues.

Well underway don't mean almost finished.

I know, but that was early 2022, imagine the progress after 1/1.5 year after this talk, the game is probably doing great by now. But y’all need to wait and see. Also the game is set to release by fiscal year 2024, which is run from 1 April 2023 to March 2024. So we need to see what rockstar is gonna do early 2023. we should get the proper announcement very soon.

No one knows when it will launch. No one knows when they WANT to launch.... and we all know saying things like "well underway" and "soon" are meaningless, and have been meaningless, since videogames existed.

Game development doesn’t take that long lol, unless they have some kind of problem with engine or managment they can easily make RDR 2 level games  in 4 to 6 years. RDR 2 was in the making for eight years and at least first two-three years were spent for pre-production and prototyping giving 5-6 years in development, and at least half of this time only some part of studio was working on the game, not whole studio. Actually If not for the certain Virus and no crunch policy we could get GTA VI in 2020 or 2021 (active development been going at least since 2018 If not earlier)

that’s what I’m saying, rdr2 took 5 years full of development and so GTA 6(4 years of development by now) I won’t be surprised if we get the game by March 2024 tbh.

Heart tells me announcment can happen soon, after re-reading Schreiers bloomberg article recently (especially the part about timelines and pressurizing devs) my brain tells me that trailer can happen very close to release, maybe even under 1 year from it as it would be logical for new Crunch policy in R*

Also for the crunch culture, the leadership hoped for less crunch, not there will be no crunch. They are even HOPING  for less crunch if you now what I mean. Like it could be like rdr2 crunch anyway.

I wouldn't say easily because mo-cap stage alone for RDRII took 5 years but what I can agree with is, that definitely most people don't really understand how important it is to have great engine if you want to make games as advanced as RDRII.

Crosscode took 10 years of development, from first concepts, to the team actually turning round and saying, 'that's it, additional content, DLC, we're done!  Onto the next game full time....'

Development is never just a straight line, and you can't flatly state, 'it'll be X years to complete this.'

When all is said and done, RDR2 and VI will have very similar development cycles. 2011-2018 compared to 2014-2024-'25. The biggest difference is there wasn't a worldwide pandemic during RDR2's production, which absolutely delayed the internal deadlines by 12-15 months, plus Rockstar trying to mitigate workload. Remember, Schreier estimated the game would come out by 2022-'23 back in early 2020, before everything went to sh*t.

And visuals are never finalised when the estimated release window is still a couple of years away. That completely goes against how games are made. The game will look a hell of a lot better than RDR2, especially on the asset and lighting sides.

Unless you're making graphics benchmark rather than game so you can pretty much estimate how much time it will take. Some concepts can sound great when they are still written only on paper but as soon as you put it in the game you may realize, that it doesn't work and you'll either rework it or just scrap it.

I don't remember Schreier ever giving an ETA back in 2020, but I think 'the Know' leak stated a 22-23, release date also. That was back in 2015 I think 2018 and that was before both the pandemic and Rockstar's backlash to crunch in RDR2 that lead to major internal workflow changes.

Honestly after everything Rockstar has been through since RDR2, the announcement and previews of VI might be very different than what we've been used to.

I don't think that an announcement next year necessarily means a 2025 release date.

Project Americas did already look surprisingly good in a leaked footage.

It's pretty much certain that the pandemic and remote work-related bottlenecks essentially delayed the game by at least 12-15 months.

The Know's 2021-'22 release window statement was from early 2018, so that probably was R*'s original deadline.

Thanks, never listened to that podcast, I was thinking about his article for Kotaku about the game being in early development.
