Fair enough. I'll just find a way to adapt it to my own installation of ML then, but just try to separate the streamer-friendly radio stuff into an optional archive in the next release, yeah? :)

Correct! Just copy and pasted it over the top, replacing the old ones (noted that I should include another readme in the patch versions in the future too).

On another note, has anyone reading this ever managed to change hardcoded interior definitions?
I currently have 1 of the 3 stadium events changed to be a difficult golf themed challenge (with appropriate background music), the next one I'm going for something else. But of course all of the stadium events fall under the same interior, and ideally I'd like each one to use different background music.

Hello, I am getting an Unhandled Exception as soon as I start a new game, what could be the cause? Regular VC works just fine for me.

EDIT: After some testing, I've determined that the causes are the "vc traffic" and "vc weather" files in the scripts folder, if that helps at all.

EDIT 2: I tried to just play without those files, but then I got another Unhandled Exception upon completing The Party, and I wonder if it's because of the autosave.

Hard to tell from this info, unfortunately. How have you installed it, which version of VC are you trying to play it with etc. The fact removing the ASIs you did, made it work, is stranger still tbh (and playing without them does mean things will be a fair beat easier than intended too)! Perhaps a DEP issue, I know that can sometimes screw with vanilla VC, let alone with plugins etc.

Well, I have the retail 1.0 version (or at least I'm fairly sure it's 1.0, I should get a 1.0 exe just to make sure though), and I installed the mod by simply copying all the files in my game folder and replacing when it asked me to. I also had no modifications or anything, just a completely clean copy of VC.

I don't really know what other info to give you, Vice City has given me a lot of trouble in the past, even when using simple fixes like Widescreen fix, though I resolved that one already. It really wasn't easy for me to get it run it properly though, I had to jump through so many hoops just for a working copy with a few fixes.

Ahh okay, that makes a little more sense. Widescreen fix is bundled in with this for a start, but yeah if other ASI mods cause issues for you on vanilla VC, then I'm really not sure what else to suggest here.

Definitely a fresh copy of VC on 1.0 is the best place to start, yeah. Tightened changes an awful lot of files so anything conflicting is bound to cause issues (including modloader etc).

The "Patch Only" version is intended to just overwrite whatever your old version is, so yeah just grab that and replace any files.

Saves from V1.3 and onwards are still compatible with V1.7, with the slight caveat that the new car spawns in the Haiti car park won't appear until you start a new game.

The mod gets updated quite frequently, so duel hosting would be a real pain to try and keep track of (and a strain on my internet connection).
I think what I'll do is when the "final" version is ready (or work pulls me away from modding entirely), I'll push that version to multiple mirrors so people in your situation can grab it too.


In the meanwhile, is it possible to get around it with a VPN perhaps?

Hello Rob, enjoying (as much as it's possible to enjoy a hardened version of a game) your mod so far. Here's a couple of suggestions for you to consider:
1) Add a failstate for Waste the Wife when the player is driving a tank (The mission is supposed to look like an accident and tank is not something that can make an accident).
2) Remove Hotring Pizza from Hotring event and SSA reward (you can replace it with either HOTRINA or HOTRINB) (it doesn't make sense for this car to be rewarded twice and used in a race against race cars imo).
3) Distribution should have all Pay'n'Sprays locked (because it's an easy wanted level cheese) and maybe wanted level should be rising faster.
4) All armor pickups should be moved elsewhere.

Keep up the good work! Looking forward for the final version.

I didn't see your post at the time, but I just got it to work by simply turning off Data Execution Prevention (which I only just realized is what Rob meant by DEP lmao, I wish my monke brain understood that earlier so I could've tried it days ago).

If anyone runs into the same issues as us and doesn't know how to do this, go into Control Panel -> System and Security -> System -> Advanced System Settings.

Then in the Advanced tab, click the Setting button under Performance. Go to the Data Execution Prevention tab, select 'Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select', then click on Add, navigate to your game folder and select the gta_vc executable. That's it!

Again, still compatible with saves from V1.3 onwards (with the exception of missing new car spawns if you're not starting a new game).

I've used obscure language deliberately to keep that a bit of a mystery. But it's not something that makes the asset annoying to complete, that would go against the philosophy of the mod.

As for the USJs, it's the sound THPS games use when performing a special trick.

Thank you for this fantastic TC, you wouldn't belive it but  I was getting the need of a TC just like yours and then, up of nowhere, i discover both Tightened Vice and GTA3: Toughened, must be my lucky day! 


I wanted to tell you how I'm appreciating your work but I'll make those considerations later on. To be honest, I have little time to play but I admit that I have already started to customize it and dang it man, it's hard to keep up with the speed of your releases.


Eventually I merged GTA:T.V. with the mod I'm working on, "VC Advanced Cops & Gangs", heavely constructed upon (Hollywood) Jack's Wanted Level Editor for VC and in general inspired by his modding work, just consider it an expansion pack of Jack's VC WLE. They both fits togheter pretty well. The latest compatible version of GTA:T.V. is the v1.5, since i'm using MVL and modloader there must be conflict IDs since you're also adding stuff like skins, vehicles and also adding modified buildings, right?


Here you can take a look of  "Juju scramble" with the newer upgrate of Advanced Cops & Gangs (Cops only, the Gangs part crashes the game when loading a savegame or new game). Note that the mission was altered by it, look at the police weapon accuracy, still working to balance it.

Now some written commentary, it was a long time I wasn't playing this fast paced, it's hard to quicly plan a strategy to survive and maybe I got carried away in showing almost all the levels of suspect, but with this mod it is important to keep a low profile in every situation, towards the end I was trying to go to Pay'n'Spray and the only parked car I remembered nearby was the Voodoo. I have failed miserably in the attempt to evade the stars of suspect thanks to the nice "melee cops" that are willing to sacrifice their lives to arrest you instantly. 

Side note: I've used a trainer to start the mission and assing weapons and ammo.

Since i mentioned Jack, such talented modder, I think his "HungUpThePhone.asi" would fit GTA:T.V. and can be very usefull. Here's the link:

Hey, glad you like it! The addons you're toying with are interesting for sure. The conflict of IDs etc makes sense, yeah, there are indeed a lot of new skins, map additions etc.

The 'HungUpThePhone.asi' does seem like something that might work here, I shall look into it; cheers for the heads up!

I was hoping for the final release of Tightened Vice to make AC&G compatible with it, I'm not talking about making my work directly associated with yours, just making an addon like you said.

 
So if you'll indicate me 10 free slots before you leave, I will be able to assign different IDs for the new cop peds.

Hello again. I got to acquiring Zebra and when entering it, the game crashes. I've seen you mentioning you fixed this issue, so apparently it's back. It's not a major inconvenience because you don't have to drive Zebra in any mission, but still.

Ugh, yes indeed... something really weird about VC's GXTs... Anyway, I've patched over yesterday's release to fix it (both patch and full), thanks for the heads up.

Hello once again. I'm sorry if I get tiring to you with my suggestions but my suggestion is to only keep the "No Tommy Allowed" door on Rub Out because it only makes sense there and having this door locked for the entire playthrough is kinda annoying. Just replace the col files in mansion.col with those and you're set. I can't PM anyone so I have to put my suggestions here, sorry about that.

No, it's not possible to change up which interior category uses which ambience audio file. Nobody with enough modding skill has tried to pull that off yet.

 

But in theory, if we can obtain the memory address containing the "DirtRing.mp3" file's path, create a new background music file for each stadium event and then patch that DirtRing.mp3 memory address on the fly using CLEO opcodes inside main.scm to use the corresponding custom audio file when the player starts a stadium event... Maybe it can work that way. 🤔

Interesting, though the problem there is that I'm trying to avoid cleo as it screws with speedrunning and the ability to dupe missions (I'm actually also trying to figure out a way to make the autosave work via ASI instead too).
