In all honesty, I don't think I'm gonna have time to make a video showing how to install it, apologies but I hope you figure it out. It really should be as simple as copying the contents of the rar into a fresh VC install and overwriting everything, the folders are already named identically.

In other news, the credits have changed a bit...

Can you give me a step-by-step progress? Because I am still having trouble figuring things out.

Aye, it does indeed seem to be consistent. I'll be working on it shortly and hope to have a patch out soon... not entirely sure how that mission got broken given it wasn't touched since 1.2, but err I guess that's VC for you!

Right, new patch time! Bunch of fixes including the three big crash ones, as well as some balance/logic tweaks.
This is also compatible with saves from V1.3, so those of you stuck on AHOD should actually be able to play it now!

V1.35 Download: https://www.dropbox.com/s/lrarirp6ks66ubs/GTA Tightened Vice - V1.35.rar?dl=0

Changelog:

Spoiler

*V1.3 saves should be fully compatible with V1.35 but will now save directly into the root of your Tightened folder!*

//Back Alley Braw instability fixed (apparently caused by flashing the radar... go figure).

//All Hands On Deck crash before phase 2 fixed, turns out I'm a moron and used the wrong opcode.... 1000 IQ btw.

//Fixed Zebra Cab crash again... I still have no idea why literally just changing the GXT name fixes this.

//Fastest boat - Added text prompt about the boat being stolen, spawned a sniper on dock, made the thief a little slower.

//Shakedown - Change text and cutscene audio from from 5 minutes to 3.

//Spilling The Beans - Tweaked dialogue...

//Riot - Reduced stars by 1, feels more balanced.

//Manlet Minders - Reduced stars by 1, feels more balanced.

//The Chase - Reduced stars by 2, feels more balanced.

//The Driver - Slightly increased car health

//Supply & Demand - Slight rebalance on the jetty enemy weapons.

//Distribution - Forcing Extra Sunny weather in order to make this less tedious (snow).

//Added alternate Pole Position music within "Streamer Friendly Radio".

//Replaced streamer friendly "Halloween Farts" with something... better?

@_Rob_ I have an idea, how about adjusting "pedstats.dat" to increase the overall difficulty of the game? The file contains attack strength and defense weakness values for every ped type, which directly affects how much damage they can deal and how much damage they can take (respectively).

That way, regular street peds, cops, gangs, emergency services etc. will all be challenging to kill if the right values are adjusted to the right proportions. You can even make the player be more vulnerable to damage so their health goes down faster with each hit. 😉

Time for V1.4!
This is compatible with saves from V1.3 onwards, but now saves to its own User Files folder (you'll need to copy old Tightened saves over, details in readme). This way people speedrunning vanilla VC don't need to worry about saves and settings getting mixed up.

Changelog:

Spoiler

//Added a subtle hint to a secret win condition in a mission.
//Modified the exe so that Tightened has its own set of saves and settings, separate from vanilla VC.
//Fixed inconsistent timer text on 'Trojan Voodoo'.
//Added in a couple more unique mission passed messages...
//Fixed confusing text in 'Oh Hey, Tanks'.
//Fixed R* oversight and added a map marker to the killer/s in 'C'est Que Ce'.

Hehe, well since V.1.1 released there've been daily streams of it (sometimes multiple per day), which is fantastic for feedback/playtesting. I can't in all good faith just leave the bugs/issues alone once I know they're there!

This is a perfect example...

Great work on the update. 👏 👍 But TBH for the separate saves and settings feature, you really didn't need to supply a modified VC executable, about which I've heard that it's against the forum rules as it enables piracy.

To get around that I can supply you the right memory addresses to change the User Files folder name and a way to patch it in if you'd like. No need for a separate EXE... 😉

I mean, I guess if it becomes a problem for me... But having it the way it is also gets around the incompatibility issues with legit Steam 1.1 copies too (which was already quite common). It's not like you can do anything with this mod unless you also have a copy of the rest of the game's vanilla files either.

Anyway, onto other business! Working on side content too now, should be fun to explore how these can be pushed.

Might as well tack on V1.45 onto this too!
This works with saves from V1.3 onwards*.

Changelog:

Spoiler

//The stadium event 'Dirt Ring' is now 'Sand Trap', and is quite a different experience!

//Removed the whole Ammunation sequence from 'Back Alley Brawl', this both avoids the potential crash and counters the artificial extra length that the thieving chef created.

//Cleared up some text during 'Cannon Fodder'.

//Fixed FBI Washington crashing the game (again, GXT strings.... wtf?).

//Cleared up grammar issues in 'Manlet Minders'.

//Closed useless garages either side of the one used in 'Cop Land' to avoid any confusion.

//Given it's now accessible, a police heli will spawn on the roof of Ocean Beach police station* after the heavy police presence in 'Oh Hey, Tanks' (though it's despawned at the beginning of 'Give Me Liberty?' and respawned at the end).

*Police Maverick will only be able to spawn if you start a new game, older saves will sadly just see an empty helipad.

Enough changes/fixes to warrant V1.5 I reckon!

Changelog:

Spoiler

//'PCJ Playground' gives a new outfit, and is now 'PCJ Purgatory'...

//Failing 'Cone Crazy' "awards" a new outfit.

//Patched exe to allow for more dynamic objects and have increased streaming memory, in the hopes of reducing spike strip related crashes.

//The above has also allowed the ghost town peds bug to be fixed, they now spawn much more densely (might be handy for rampages)!

//Added a meta Phil Cassidy related easter egg...

Download V1.5: https://www.dropbox.com/s/4ijoqmwk60nllgj/GTA Tightened Vice - V1.5.rar?dl=0

And here's a look at the new 'PCJ Purgatory'

I'm pretty sure the dll just needs to be in your VC root, but I don't think this issue has anything to do with the mod specifically. Did you test out vanilla VC before installing Tightened?

Glad you're enjoying it! The flickering seems to be tied to specific GPUs, not sure why nor have I figured out how to fix it yet (though ofc it's difficult when I can't recreate it).

This GTA mod feels like one part "Hard Mode" and one part "Pepega Edition".

Maybe you should consider making versions of the radio stations that replace the songs with chiptune renditions (I'm talking about Flash FM, V-Rock, etc.). Basically, what the songs would sound like if GTA Vice City was made on the NES, or Commodore 64, which makes sense, given the 1980s setting.

It doesn't replace any music stations by default (only with the additional streamer friendly radio).

Streamed this mod last night and was great! I only found "Phnom Penh '86" was bit too brutal lol, but the rest were a decent challenge. Death Row, Rub Out, Shakedown and Guardian Angels were especially well done. :)
Look forward to trying the rest! Also Respect+ for Skeleton Tommy!

I think the ms32 thing is a vanilla VC/Win 10 issue, plenty of guides out there on fixing that iirc.

Time for V1.6!
This is a pretty substantial one, lots of brand new content and an equal amount of fixes and tweaks that should make the overall experience better/more consistent.

Changelog:

Spoiler

//New 100% completion reward.

//36 brand new (and tricky) USJs with accompanying map additions/tweaks.

//Fixed weather to be back on a cycle (was mistakenly random before).

//Increased object pool/memory limits.

//Tweaked snow particles to hopefully reduce chance of flickering on some PCs (love bugs I can't recreate).

//Jury Duty: Moved the location Tommy spawns after each successful "scare" cutscene, to avoid cheap shotgun instakills.

//Back Alley Brawl: The thieving chef now drives to a specific location every time, making the mission just as tricky but with less RNG.

//PCJ Purgatory: Now forces sunny weather purely to avoid the annoyance of waiting for snow to pass.

//Added PCJ spawn next to the garage used in 'Oh Hey, Tanks', to hopefully sidestep the painful wait for traffic to start spawning again.

//Fixed cutscene cameras in 'Back Alley Brawl' and 'Cop Land' so that you're no longer in the "stare at a wall, scared of soft lock" purgatory.

//Completing the 'Pizza Boy' side-mission will now spawn the 'Hotring Pizza' car at Vercetti Estate.

//Added 'Overkill' by Men at Work to Emotion and 'Living On My Own' by Freddie Mercury to Fever, purely because they're a couple of my favourites and fit very nicely :)

//Amended credits.

Rather soon, but a quick patch largely to re-enable speedrunners duping HTC, and with a couple of other bonuses too!

Changelog:

Spoiler

//Slightly reduced max ped count and increased streaming memory. Should both help with stability and fix the crashes while duping 'Hit The Courier'.

//Added new "MC Tommy" outfit for Mitch Baker's biker mission string.

//Added in failsafes to make sure a ton of unscripted random Diaz goons won't spawn during 'Rub Out'.

//Fixed draw distance on a couple of map objects which could cause unfair collisions.

By ML, do you mean "Mod Loader"? Because if so, I doubt it'd work with that, it's certainly not built/tested for it. The latest full version is always the best one to start with, but it replaces a vanilla installation.

There's no need for video instructions because it's literally copying and pasting from a rar into a folder, as per the included installation instructions.

@_Rob_ mang, I just went to download it off Dropbox and... mang, why does it weigh 1.2 GB?! Is it because of the new radio stations stuff?

Radio stations mostly, yeah. There's also the bundled optional "streamer friendly radio" which will probably be a separate upload in future releases. The size is also why I've started releasing it both as a complete version and a patch only version.

Yeah, you should separate all the audio stuff into an optional download and leave the core be easily downloadable.

Also, I think I can find a way to introduce Mod Loader compatibility to Tightened Vice, which can also help reduce it's gigantic download size by quite a lot...

I've noticed you provide a modified gta3.img file as a whole with the mod, if I could get a list of all what was added, removed or changed in it, maybe we can separate all those many little files into a nice and simple Mod Loader folder structure. No need for bloats! :)

I'll be honest, the ModLoader route isn't really one I want to go down. The entire point of the mod is to make something speedrunners can easily install and play, requiring ModLoader to be installed first is an extra unnecessary step (of which the more I have, the greater the chance of problems). Further to that, creating two versions for every release is chunk of extra work I'd rather avoid.

My day job is as a game dev, this is a little side project to give me a creative outlet; if it becomes hard work and less fun, it sort of defeats the purpose.

I don't think installing Mod Loader is a chore considering everybody heavily uses it nowadays. Using ML for your mods not only makes installation even more easier than it already is, but it also keeps your (and the people who install your mod) OG GTA copy intact so you don't even need to touch the game files. :)
