To celebrate the 20th anniversary of my beloved Vice City, it felt only fitting that I would return to modding after a decade to completely destroy the game's difficulty curve and troll speedrunners....

 

Every main mission and every optional mission (barring submissions and things like stadium events, for now) has been modified. Sometimes the mission plays out mostly the same with additional difficulty, sometimes the mission will have large chunks changed. The mod is also still in beta, I'll be making tweaks and fixes as time goes on and feedback is given, so do let me know of any issues!

This should  work with all international versions of the original VC (not DE or Mobile, and it never will).
The game will now autosave into slot 7 after every mission passed.

What's Different?

 

  • Every single main mission and every single optional mission has been changed, tweaked or in some cases overhauled (including all assets).
  • Overhauled weather, traffic and ped systems that make VCs streets an even less friendly place to be.
  • Every hidden package has been relocated.
  • 36 brand new Unique Stunt Jumps.
  • 5+ new vehicles to find, 15+ new outfits to unlock and several new wardrobe pickups to choose them with.
  • Several new car spawns and tweaked weapon spawns.
  • A new savehouse by the docks.
  • Overhauled Vigilante, Paramedic, Distribution & Taxi Driver missions (plus the ability to do Pizza Boy in an alternate vehicle).
  • 3 new stadium events.
  • Overhauled 'PCJ Playground'.
  • 1 new checkpoint mission 'Skimmer Skills' accessible from the plane behind Lance's house.
  • 1 changed RC mission 'You Are A TOY!!" located at the sand track on Washington Beach.
  • Many map additions/tweaks for both in and out of missions.
  • The ability to sprint with heavy weapons, skip phone calls and listen to radio inside of emergency vehicles.
  • Tweaked cutscenes changing some words to better match the new difficulty and in some cases alternate character models.
  • New 100% reward outfit.
  • 30+ new era appropriate songs added to VCs existing radio, including cut beta songs.
  • + More I've probably already forgotten!

Tightened Vice is being made with Speedrunners in mind, as such it's a complete package that just needs to overwrite a vanilla VC 1.0 install. This being the case, it also contains several plugins by other authors within it's files. (Hopefully this is still cool here these days...):

Yeah, it's odd. A few people seem to have this happen, I'm not sure if it's a graphics card related thing but I'm yet to get to the bottom of it (nor am I able to replicate it).

@_Rob_ heeey, that's really nice! I've been actively following Tightened Vice's development on your YouTube channel since the first test video, those were absolute fun and hilarious at the same time, very nice work. I'll definitely pick this mod up on the way to my next playthrough of VC. 👍

 

BTW that two-handed weapon sprinting thing was made by me (as evident with 2016 being my join date and by checking my display name history) and I must admit that I made that mod in a really crappy way back then... like, the sprint anims are not genuinely from LCS\VCS... :cringekek: Not to mention they are way slower compared to Tommy's OG one-handed\empty-handed sprint anim, so I'm willing to redo it for your mod if you'd like, just drop me a PM in case you want it to be better implemented.

Hey, thanks! If you want the credits for that sprinting switched over to your new name, I'm happy to do so for the next update? It works really well for its purpose here, because it still makes weapon quick switching a valuable skill for speed, but makes it a little easier for more casual players.

As for the LCS snow, it looks cool, but the way this is implemented means I can control it via script (and have the timecyc already tweaked to fit). To be honest, I'm not entirely sure if it's the weather mod causing the issue, as it seems to flicker other particle things like rain, skid marks and car shadows too; it's just most obvious for the snow as it takes up a lot of screen real estate!

If i play with 144 fps the problem is gone, that's weird.

Okay, thank you, you can credit me for the thing with my new username, but now I want to redo that thing with a different vision in mind... Would it be OK if all two-handed weapons used the one-handed sprint anims where both arms flail like Tommy was empty-handed?

The snowfall plugin allows you to bind the effect to any weather. You could attach it to the Foggy weather and set that up in missions via SCM.

Sure thing, I will swap that over for the next version :)
I mean, by all means redo it, but I can't promise I'll use it; all the mission difficulty is worked around how things play out as-is, I'm not sure whether I want to have to go back and rebalance it all again now! I think it would look rather strange for Tommy's weapons to work with full on sprinting like that, the guns should have some weight imo.

As for the snowfall, I see, that is interesting to know. Though it still seems like a lot of unnecessary work to swap it all out, especially if I'm correct in thinking it's not even causing the flickering particle thing.

Version 1.2 is up! (This should still work with old Tightened saves, I've tested with my own)
Changes:

Spoiler

- Numerous bug/oversight fixes that should make crashes even less likely.
- Added optional "streamer friendly radio", meaning you can still "enjoy" new stations without risking Billie Jean stealing your revenue
- Oh Hey, Tanks no longer has a visible gunner to quick kill and the mission takes place during a snowstorm.
- The Fastest Boat now has an additional phase.
- Shakedown has a much more challenging time limit.
- All Hands On Deck snipers are slightly more accurate now, making them an actual threat.
- Hog Tied has Mitch's bike damaged from the off, making a clean getaway more of a challenge
- KYFC has more balanced weapons and has the new phase pose more of a challenge. The marker for the new Sparrow is more obvious.
- Publicity Tour no longer allows for pause cheesing the drunk effect... good luck!
- Added  more helpful folk to the credits

Hey, despite how HARDER the game is now, I actually really LOVE this mod!
I'm writing because I have a small problem, I started playing on v1.1 and I got to the point where I took over the mansion and all that...but I still didn't do "All Hands on Deck!" on my save, and then I've updated it to v1.2....and surprise for me, after I get rid of the first set of french guys and the game teleports you to that blockade...my game crashes...it's kind of unfortunate because I want to do all the missions. Is there a fix for that? If not then...I guess I'll play that mission on a second playthrough of this mod.

Glad you're enjoying it!

Hmm that's an interesting one, I can't say I've ever had a crash there myself but then a lot changes between versions, perhaps I overlooked something with save compatibility. I can't imagine there would be a fix for it, other than reverting back to V1.1, unfortunately.

V1.3 is also on the way soon, with a huge list of bug fixes, stability improvements, difficulty tweaks, expanded missions etc (this one will not support old save files though).

No worries! That's another reason for me to do another playthrough after I'm finished with my v1.1 save. :)

i really love this mod and i hope it will get the attention it deserves, just like Toughened
also, i uploaded those bonus stations to YouTube, hope you don't mind
edit: you can also edit the main menu texts, to make them more fun (besides brief)

I followed the instructions to downgrade thanks to Mhmd. And I don't have any other mods installed. I didn't even started a new game; it crashed the moment I went to the loading screen after skipping the Rockstar logo and game opening.

Hmmm then I guess there's something different between the versions than just the exe. Not really sure what else to suggest though, as it's almost certainly that.

Oh man, this is definitely wrong. You seem to have bits of the mod in wrong places, an extra mod folder too.
All you need do is copy over the folder as-is and overwrite everything (though at this point I'd imagine you'll need to uninstall/reinstall VC).

Thank you. I am not good with setting up mods because of my disability (I had ADHD and autism) and I was still trying to figure out what is wrong. 😭

 

I might need a video tutorial on how to set the mod up. 

 

You can give me a reference on how I set up the mod properly.

In all honesty, I don't think I'm gonna have time to make a video showing how to install it, apologies but I hope you figure it out. It really should be as simple as copying the contents of the rar into a fresh VC install and overwriting everything, the folders are already named identically.

 

In other news, the credits have changed a bit...

First of all, this mod is awesome. But i am also experiencing, as other users posted here, that the game crashes consistently on "All Hands on Deck!" in the fade to black when killing the first wave of French guys. I am playing on v1.3 and didn't switch versions between saves. I dont know if it's worth noting, but Tommy's outfit changes when the mission starts.

Hi,

Started playing - it's real great. One thing I noticed is that the chef in the 'Back Alley Brawl' mission starts walking into a wall instead of attacking you and generally he seems kinda broken. Thought you might wanna hear this OP. I'll be waiting updates that's fo' sho'.

Edit: yeah also it crashed when I was driving with Lance - still, tight as hell brotha.
