Most / least enraging GTA game

I'm somewhat new to the GTA series - up until a few years ago I was basically an RPG person. But now I've played through GTA 3, VC, San Andreas, Stories from Liberty City, IV, and V., and by and large GTA has overtaken Final Fantasy as my previous favourite game series.

That's not to say that the GTA games are flawless though, and there are thing in them which drive me absolutely mad (an example from today: Vice City, there's a rampage on a wooden structure in the middle of the sea, in which you have to destroy 20 (IIRC) vehicles in two minutes. However many it is, you'll be lucky if five or six vehicles spawn in that time. That is outright incompetence in programming. And the controls on the IOS port must surely rank among the worst controls in the history of videogames.

I've found that as the games went on, the things that made me incandescently angry became fewer and fewer in number, as the control schemes improved and so on. So for me, Vice City, for all the fun it provides, is also by far the most enraging game in the series.

Conversely, I don't remember getting particularly mad at IV or V at all, even during exceptionally difficult missions etc.

Agree, disagree? Which of the GTA games gets you the angriest - and why?

cant remember

Glad to hear about someone discovering GTA and also replaying the previous games.

The older games are definitely a little frustrating like that sometimes, I learned to not really care too much about certain side-content like the rampages.

For me the most enraging part is to die in stupid ways at crucial moments, for example I finished a really difficult mission and I just have to travel to a blip for the "mission complete" message but right when I'm about to something random happens and I get run over.

Most enraging for me is Vice City Stories. So. Many. Vehicle side missions. And now with 15 levels! Empire building was frustrating too. Not good.

GTA III is the most difficult for me because of lack of pause menu map, ridiculousness of how fast vehicles set on fire and all the tight time limits. But a game being enraging in a boring (rather than just challenging) way like VCS is worse.

Agreed about VCS definitely went almost overboard with the vehicle side missions and once you've pissed off the Sharks, they just... Don't.... stop!

GTA III is a little more manageable if you've made a perfect starter save and steal the AP Cheetah from Turismo to use in some of the later, otherwise harder missions.

Only thing I found truly enraging on my last SA run was trying do vigilante at the beginning without the Hunter.

When it comes to going for 100% out of completionist sake IV has the burden of 200 damn pigeons and 50 stunts to endure with these fragile bike physics, makes you wish they'd update it so Niko has the same bike handling that both Johnny and Luis did.

I'm a bit in the opposite boat as OP. I've always been a GTA fan, and then later on discovered Fallout and Skyrim and was amazed at the freedom in those games, you can start and progress through several quests at once and they have many more possible different outcomes, inventory system etc. (RPG's were new to me) . While in GTA when you're in "mission mode" you're on just that mission till it's done, and only sometimes give you an alternate ending.

Though GTA remained my favorite series.
