To this day, I still don't understand why they made the copcar so ugly in the final release. A simple color swap on the original paintjob would have looked much better.

Prob because that paintjob in the final is more generic and helps make Liberty City feel like it could be anywhere and nowhere specific imo

Who else remembers those first actual gameplay clips from E3 filmed over someone's shoulder. The longest and best quality clip had someone drive a yellow van (with a lot of detail missing from the van's final version) while escaping cops and then stealing a red stallion from blue shirt guy.

Yeah, found the clips on MattJ155's YouTube channel.

Every year in October I am surprised how old this game is and I still have a lot of fun with it. There were probably a few years in between when I didn't play it, but it was always present. It also shows me every year how quickly time flies. It's been over 20 years since it was released and still so many people are still enthusiastic about it. We are still looking for more information from the pre-release phase and interesting things keep coming to light.

These are always great memories for me. I used to run to my buddy to download some mods for GTA III. My parents only had a 56K modem and his parents already had ISDN (128k). Which reduced the download time by more than half.

yeah yeah the good old days... 😅

I will never forget that feeling of Christmas day 2001 when i finally got to unbox my fresh PS2 bundled with GTA3... A long time fan and Player of GTA 1 & 2 I always dreamt of a day where i would see GTA in a fully realised 3D universe... man that day was probably the best day ive had as an avid gamer. Proper watershed moment for me personally. Looking back, was GTA3 the most polished game... of course not, it had many flaws and limitations but.. at that moment in time it sent me to a place I had only dreamt of gaming wise and thats why it will always be my No.1 GTA game end of. And to be honest no game has ever made me feel that way since. Which is also the reason i detest the 'new' defective edition so much...

What a good gold days friend! :)

And yeah for me this new "definitive edition" it was a lack of respect for the GTA community & franchise deserved so much better! But anyway...

I still remember playing it for the first time… I owned GTA 2 on PSX but when I first drove that Kuruma down the Callahan bridge that did it, I was hooked and GTA was “my game” from there forward.

It really is one of the best video games of all time and brought such a revolutionary immersive experience.

I haven't played this along GTA Vice City and San Andreas in 2004, it was around 2007 that I did play GTA III for the first time. For some reason I thought it "looked boring" and "old" and I didn't bother buying it with the others.

I want to start playing the definitive edition of it but that has to wait until I finish few other ones, including San Andreas DE 100%.

GTA 3 is old but still definitely worth playing and enjoyable, especially with some mods.

Absolutely. I usually point people to these two resources to help make GTA3 a little nicer to play alongside more modern titles.

Updated Classic looks like a very interesting project. Their "small" changes really add value to the city.

Have it really been so long? Those first lines on the Head radio when you get into the car still rings inside my head like it was few weeks ago. "...and two senators". And the sirens from those two police cars.

I've only been out of the house two times throughout the summer when GTA III came out for the PC. When I came back to the school in September, I was so white from the lack of sun that classmates nicknamed me cottage cheese.

It was the best summer of my first 30 years of life. The real sun was the one that shone down on Bedford point when you crashed your Banshee through the windows of TW@T.
