Pistol Bobcat
Luis, arguably the weakest of the IV protagonists and imo the blame lies with the rather rushed writing and the voice actor. Incredibly monotone during most missions, wouldn't be surprised if Mario did all lines in just one day. Similar to Franklin, complains constantly and then does the mission anyway for shady people like Bulgarin. For a guy who gets more tail than Genghis Khan he's remarkably moody all the time. Johnny may have been a little one dimensional but he at least clearly had fun stealing or engaging in gang wars. It doesn't help too that armando & Henrique are bland stuck records, I wish they'd kept the original idea of Luis being in the ND3 with the Gomez brothers and Willy Valero as major characters, would've been cool to truly see two sides of him, gang member and nightclub management. Victor Vance. I liked Vic overall, tragic character but he should've had the common sense to not run these errands for Jerry. In a nutshell don't make protagonists who don't want to be criminals. Tommy and CJ work so well because they're career criminals and express that "damn it feels good to be a gangster" vibe. universetwisters
Vic. Like I get that the whole point of the game is to commit crimes, but it’s really stupid how hesitant Vic is about it despite his first thought after being kicked out of the army is to go work for a criminal. Why couldn’t he have applied at a fast food place or anywhere else legal if he was so against committing crimes? Were his brother’s medical bills 6,000 dollars a day or something? Cutter De Blanc
Victor Vance finds the things I like to do in GTA distasteful and tries to tell people to get down when I'm shooting at them. Made the cool empire building system leave a sour taste in my mouth with how little he seemed to actually want to do it In the HD era it was Johnny, whom I just found depressing to play as what with his sh*t life and circumstances, and he can't even change clothes. Once I beat the game and got that final call from Ashley I threw him off of Rotterdam tower and played TBoGT whenever I wanted to freeroam. Luis may be an obnoxious douchebag but at least he's not miserable. Edited October 12 by Cutter De Blanc MrBreak16 and AkshayKumar

Homicidal Hipster
Johnny Klebitz. Don't enjoy playing as him. Don't find the biker culture particularly interesting and found him to be too soft for the Hardened outlaw biker trope they were trying to pull off. Why couldn’t he have applied at a fast food place or anywhere else legal if he was so against committing crimes? Were his brother’s medical bills 6,000 dollars a day or something? Even though I liked Vic overall, I agree this with the sympathy that I could never fully embrace the path Rockstar had taken to write his character. Generally in 3D Era, R* had the notion of writing their lead characters as Gary Stu (yeah, even if the series traditionally revolved around crime). Only expections I could list is Tommy Vercetti... and maybe Claude? Whatever, back to the topic - In his few minutes of the original Vice City, Vic shows up as this brash, loud-mouthed prick with a knack for earning dirty money. With his portrayal in his own game, it's hard to connect the dots. So why not make him consistent to his chronogically later appearance while making simple changes in the storyline? Lemme explain: Imagine, we already know Victor comes from a broken family. Let's flavor this up: Overburdened by his dysfunctional family from young ages (An idiotic brother who always needs his ass saved, a probably heavily chronic ill brother and a drug-addicted, child-neglecting mother. And add a violent, drunken father who left his family years back to the picture... the perfect toxic flow), Vic had become numb; turned into this cynical, amoral, money-oriented malignant *sshole who joins the army for bigger spoils. Maybe he had heard of military guys making serious cash by running drugs under their clean dutiful presences. He makes out what kind of a c*nt Jerry Martinez is, but goes ahead with doing his errands because of the big money involved. Eventually, Martinez sets him up, Vic gets kicked out of the service and find himself bare-assed on the streets. He hits up his only contact in this new city: Phil Cassidy, a heavily-drunken gun nut who wallows in fake war stories to alleviate the pain. He's a mess and a perfect foil to this broken, apathetic Victor. From upon, Vic aims for the crown - his eyes set on the top of the Vice City criminal foodchain and is obviously hellbent on getting back at Martinez. And he's not supposed to be a complete butthole. If you want to humanize him, you can still use his never-flowered romantic relationship with Louise... the battered, messed-up wife of this drunken, violent redneck called Marty - brings back the memories of his own father to Vic and prompts him to murder the notorious wife-beater. If you want to romantizise things in a f*cked-up, have Vic beat Marty's hillbilly face into a bloody pulp, let him and Louise drive to the dump-filled waters of Little Haiti and dispose of the body. Let them share a passionate hug and the rest is the same: Louise motivates Vic to take over Marty's rackets... yeah, years of coping with a pimp degenerate husband makes anyone a little screwed up in the head. In a plan devised by Lance, Vic steals a sh*tload of Martinez's coke which actually belongs to the notorious Mendez Brothers. Throughout the consequences, Vic and Lance end up on the leash of Armando and Diego... By now, you can see Vic doesn't care if he lives or dies but he just finds himself trapped by dealing with the family bullsh*t once again. And it's obvious that he's unhappy with playing the underdog. Maybe I could bring up Martinez's downfall earlier by this point by making Lance and Vic successfully portray Martinez as a DEA snitch to the Mendez Brothers. And the next thing you know is Vic's taking part in a full-fledged cartel hit on Martinez before he leaves the city, him concluding this feud's end by murdering him in cold blood. After this point, the Mendez Brothers are slowly starting to view the Vances as equals and Vic, for once in his life, appreciates his brother's being. One day, Vic gets back home and finds that Louise and Lance had a wild night scoring coke. Thinking the obvious, Vic goes into a volatile fit of rage and ends up shooting some Mendez compounds - ending the partnership on bad terms with both him and Lance being marked for death by the Bolivians. After saving their skins a couple of times with Louise having ended up on the fireline, Lance eventually finds an unlikely friend in the unstable Colombian cocaine baron Ricardo Diaz. At first impression to the last, Diaz is an *sshole. Vic thinks life comes so easy for him: He's got the money, he's got the coke, he's got the mansion, he's got the boats... he's got the El Burro movies even. But when Diaz talks about stirring up dirt on Gonzalez, Vic complies. You can sure tell this version of Vic wouldn't appreciate being kicked up the curb and now he's got to chance to exact revenge on Gonzalez. Thus, Diaz sends the Vance Brothers to collect concrete evidence of Gonzalez working behind his Colonel to make a side profit and this is used to force him into being a mole in Cortez's operations. Make this a real big revelation maybe: Gonzalez supplying the shady French government officials with coke and inside information. More the drama, more the better. Now, Diaz is almost the biggest drug player in the city... he just has the Mendez Brothers on the way. Knowing the spite Vic has for them (especially upon the immature passing of Louise), Diaz sends him to finish off the Mendez cartel in a cinematic ultimate shootout at the Mendez Building, the very heart of their legal line of work. All prideful, woeful and hateful, Vic executes the two brothers without hesitating. Right after, Lance shows up in a chopper and tells this 20k's of white powder he skimmed off Diaz's stash. Now it comes full circle: Vic lost that one thing he ever felt compassionate about (Louise), he exacted his revenge and the only thing he has now is taking pride in being a degenerate, greedy drug peddler. He okays Lance, they skip to Panama where they wait until the heat's down so they can sell the cocaine. Now cut out to two years later, to the Introduction of Vice City. They arrive at Viceport in a copter piloted by Lance to meet this neurotic lawyer and his nobody but connected partner-in-crime. Now completely out of apathy and self-control, Vic has developed a notably unstable persona and an extremely loud mouth: demanding to see the money after promoting his pure Colombian merch. Then, an unknown party crashes the deal, ripping Victor bloody with bullet holes and leaving the only survivor Tommy run for his life. How the hell this charade ended up to be a violent failure? We know that Gonzalez is a slippery f*ck. Maybe he was pressured by the French intelligence agency to set up Cortez's downfall. The best way to do that? He's informed of these two vagabond brothers who stole some coke from Diaz and they're eager to sell it. Make Cortez set up the deal and Diaz will think Cortez is responsible and he'll have him dropped. Thus, Gonzalez has this anonymous contact with a shady yet undeniably attractive backstory (a DGSE agent or a French government asset?) approach Cortez as a line between him and the two brothers. Cortez complies, gets the word around town and finds that the LC-based Forelli Crime Family is eager to push up their way to the lucrative cocaine trade down in Florida. Don Sonny thinks that the recently-released and alienated Tommy V is the perfect man for the job and sends him down south. Gonzalez, now on his way for the second part on the plan, squeals to Diaz about this coke he abruptly lost two years back - which prompts the latter to hire this half-time cook, half-time mercenary and his crew for work. They station themselves hidden at the exchange location, shoot all the sh*t up and deliver the drugs back to Diaz... and the rest is history. Algonquin Assassin
Toni. It’s weird because he’s one of my favourite characters in GTA III since Michael Madsen is a boss, but I can’t stand him in LCS for some reason. Vic isn’t too far behind. Too uptight and whiny for my liking.
