Vigilante: confidence destroyed

I'm playing the "classic" (or whatever you'd call it) version of this on the iPad. Second time through. First time I just got through it and didn't really try to pass every side mission, etc. Just wanted to enjoy the story. But I figured this time I'm going to put a but more effort into the subquests, etc.

I passed Paramedic, which took a few attempts, but wasn't too bad. I also got through the pizza delivery, which again was just a matter of keeping at it.

But Vigilante is just destroying me.

Yesterday I got to something like level 10 or 11, which is way further than I normally get, but today it's back to square one and I' m lucky if I can clear stage 5 or 6.

I usually use the police Cheetah (at the side of the station) and try to keep in the general area of a Pay and Spray.

Main issues are: sometimes the perp's car spawns at the airport, and it is close to impossible to get there, even with a car as fast as the Cheetah. There seem to be no short cuts there at all. If you're in the wrong part of the map, it's just easier to quit the mission and hope that they don't spawn there again.

Then there are the perps who appear to be professional stunt drivers and who can drive rings around you even with four shot-out tyres and their car on fire.

I swear that the famous "hard" missions (Demolition Man, The Driver, etc.) are a cakewalk compared to Vigilante.

I read that you can do it with a helicopter or something, but you have to either collect every single hidden item in the game (takes too long) or complete the actual game (which defeats the purpose).

I know the reward is that armor is more powerful, and I beat the game without this last time, but I hate giving up.

Anyone know a way to get through the entire 12 levels other than repeating the mission a thousand times? I like Vice City, but it's not my favourite of the series and I'm not going to spend hour upon hour upon hour just trying to crack this one side quest.

You are playing this on a non PC system so your alternatives are getting less.. Helicopter makes it too easy but you can also do it with a tank which requires 90 hidden packages instead of 100 🙂

Appreciate the answer, but I am now so absolutely disgusted with the unfairness of the Vigilante level that I'm seriously considering quitting entirely and deleting the game for good.

I tried it again today, and this is what happened:

First perp: nearby, easy kill.

Second: airport, miles away, took most of my time to get there, just about made it in time to kill perp.

Third: same area, but for some reason there were like twenty fully geared up soldiers around, who blew my car up in a matter of seconds.

What a shame. An entertaining and fun game, ruined by a useful sub-quest with an absolutely obscene level of difficulty.

I thought that "Learning to Fly" in San Andreas was bad, but that's not unfair, it's just difficult and requires a significant amount of patience. Vigilante in VC stacks the deck against you from the very start. It's almost like they don't really want you to beat it, and they just put it in there to enrage the player.

Police and army will be pain in the a** so TANK is a slow but effective option..

I know collecting hidden packages are boring and stupid for getting a tank and completing vigilante but unfortunately you have to.. Vice City is harder when it comes to police chase, you can't leave your police car or drive-by is dangerous so you HAVE TO get the tank..

It seems you like completing some side quests so you can also complete the whole 35 rampages by using tank cannon or smasing the vehicles/enemies and rob some stores 😉
