Previous ones while great, closely followed game, even frame by frame. This one however, not only show us something never seen before, but also did in such a good way. I love how tough survivalist found love in these harsh times. I hope we will see more of such episodes. I think the Left Behind episode will probably be similar. Bill's Town was my favorite chapter in the game. What a shame. I still don't like Bill's Town and the later parts of Boston and this episode made me appreciate Bill more as a character. Also, Joel is not 14 years younger in any way in the show. He's roughly the same age by the time of outbreak day in both media, it's just they moved outbreak day 10 years earlier. Meanwhile, I'm really excited for Episode 4 to drop. Pittsburgh is basically my 2nd favorite chapter, after the one in Seraphite Island. They changed the location to Kansas in the show. But, I'm giggling at the pickup truck scene where they encounter the 1st "wounded" hunter. Algonquin Assassin
TwistOfLime21
I'll be honest. I didn't think much of episode three, especially considering the hype around it. I get it though, you can't have ten episodes of Joel and Ellie just walking. I haven't played the game in a few years so I don't remember too much about it. I thought at first Bill was the hunter that tries to kill Ellie in the restaurant. Algonquin Assassin and DODI3OG 1

Yeah, I wanted to see more of Frank, but other than that, I just prefer the Pittsburgh/Kansas section since it was my favorite chapter in Part 1. I also expected Bill and Ellie's banters in live-action, but I also didn't care when it didn't happen. I hope they release Ep. 3 standalone (there's a 2-hour version Director's Cut). I think I would have loved to see more of Bill and Frank. On the other hand, I hope we also get to see more of Joel and Tommy's past as Hunters and we get to know more about Anna other than that scene where she was giving birth to Ellie. Algonquin Assassin
“I wasn’t scared until I met you”. Best quote of the episode IMO. I’ve watched it about 4 times and each time I notice something a little different. When Joel goes to the bedroom the front door eerily closes at the same. Now maybe I’m way overthinking this, but it seems like it was done to infer the old “one door closes another opens” adage to signify this is the point of the story when Joel starts to see what he has to do to protect Ellie at all costs. Also I love when they get in the pick up truck at the end Ellie doesn’t even know how to use a seatbelt because she’s never been in a car or the like before. It’s cute and a reminder of all the things she’s missed out having grown up in a QZ that we probably take granted. Next stop is Kansas City and Sam and Henry. After this episode I’m not sure my heart is ready hehehehe (as Bill put it). Edited February 4 by Algonquin Assassin
dieseltech20
Show is OK so far. Need to put some action in there though. More video Game, less Walking Dead, please. Darth_Cruiser and Big Molio 1

TheSantader25
I was losing faith after the last two episodes because there were so many things wrong with them. But apart from the Kathleen arc this episode was incredibly well done. Episode 5 is the best one so far. Algonquin Assassin
Even though I knew what was coming for Henry and Sam it was still heart breaking. I mean Ellie tried to save Sam after he showed the bite and she cut herself by putting her own blood into the wound (because of the immunity). That was touching. After thinking about it though given how messed up this world is I think being deaf would be one of the most HORRIBLE ways to experience it which makes it even more tragic as Sam relied completely on Henry. Onto something a little more positive. I know people online were disappointed that the bloater wasn’t introduced in episode 3, but I think I prefer it this way. It was a total chad moment when it came out of the sinkhole and tore Perry’s head off like it was tearing open a can. The entire sequence was a visual spectacle and it introduced something not even in the games. Child clickers. Nightmare fuel to the extreme. DODI3OG
I was sobbing for 40% of the entire episode. Every scene with Henry and Sam is just so touching and heartbreaking at the same time. Video game Henry was an asshole to Sam, but TV Show Henry really cares for him. You could see in Henry's eyes how much he loves his brother. I cried because I can't even do the same thing to my family. I'd love to be as caring as TV show Henry, but I know I couldn't be on that level of caring. That's why I sobbed the first time he drew the "mask" onto Sam's face. By the time Ellie was trying to cure Sam, I was already crying like a baby, punching my chest.... It shows how much Ellie wants to save the world, esp. for the people she cares about. IMO, this episode is the best so far. A lot of people criticized it because the direction was too "mainstream", but isn't that what people wanted? A lot of people were getting tired of the slow-paced episodes before this, and I think the fast pace was just befitting. Kathleen is also a typical villain, but her actions were more impactful. She didn't just lose. Her people lost because of what she did. Well, it was only a matter of time before those infected got out. Just felt bad that there were hundreds of new infected from Kansas. dieseltech20
Kathleen was just obsessed with vengeance and everyone around her paid the price. Couldn't even let go of it during an "infected" invasion. Wins freedom for the QZ and all in it, just to piss it away. Good episode but damn did it crush a LOT of the story into one small piece. I do love the attention to detail and how so much is modeled exactly as it is in the game. Algonquin Assassin and DODI3OG
DODI3OG
Henry's storyline could even work as a limited series on its own. I'd certainly watch a TV Show about him finding out Sam has Leukemia, looking for a cure, and betraying Kathleen's brother for it. Joel and Tommy's days as a hunter with Tess and Marlene could also be told in four episodes ala-Chernobyl. Who knows? Maybe they all came from Baltimore QZ before they ended up in Boston. Maybe this is where Joel found out that with or without the vaccine, people are still bound for extinction, with all the raiding and enslavement going on. Also, I'm gonna bet two of my balls that Anna (Ellie's mom), is revealed to be a founding leader of the firefly. Might even be the "Big Wig". Marlene looks up to her a lot. Sure, they could be just close friends, but I have a feeling on this one. dieseltech20 and Algonquin Assassin
Algonquin Assassin
It seems we saw our first glimpse of Dinain this episode. How great does Jackson look though? Makes me think of Part II. Overall another solid episode. I absolutely adore the chemistry between Joel and Ellie. Ellie’s made me laugh a few times I have to admit. FamousActor_
It is now explained why Joel is older in the show. This version of the character is a more fragile one. Not just for his age, but also because of his PTSD symptoms that became very clear at this point. Nevertheless, I'm expecting him to make a radical turn in the last episode and going on full berserk mode during the hospital sequence. Also loved how they are using songs from the game itself. These are the ones I've identified during this last episode: Edited February 20 by FamousActor_ Algonquin Assassin
Algonquin Assassin
I like how they’re showing that he hasn’t really covered from losing Sarah and now only does it affect him mentally, but physically too when he has those anxiety attacks. I really like Pedro Pascal’s portrayal of Joel. Troy Baker’s will always be legendary, but to be honest Pedro makes Joel feel more human than a gaming anti-hero. TwistOfLime21
Episode seven was meh. In the game we see Ellie take over as hunter / protecter which is what I was looking forward to. Instead we got a two minute scene of her searching cupboards and a long episode of her in a mall. I'm all for backstory but weve already had a whole episode dedicated to Bill and Frank. I was wanting to see a more aggressive side of Ellie because minus a couple of scenes, shes too cute and innocent which doesn't suit the environment / situation around her. If season two is going to be based off the second game then they're really going to have to ramp up her aggression. FamousActor_
I'm enjoying the show so far but I also felt that Episode 07 was kinda meh. The pace is way too slow. I mean, I know the DLC is slow-paced and it was certainly not an easy task to adapt it... but maybe they shouldn't have adapted it at all? Or at least not for an entire episode? It's not a fundamental part of the story after all. Got me thinking. But anyway. I found some interesting details about the soundtrack again. First, the song playing in the carousel is not just a generic carousel song, it's an alternate version of "Just Like Heaven" by The Cure. Very subtle, but still cool. Second, they played a Pearl Jam track called "All Or None". Seems unimportant at first, but let's remember that the song played by Joel in Part II (game), "Future Days", was also written by Pearl Jam. And the thing is: the show's timeline differs from the game's timeline. In the show the outbreak occurred in 2003 while in the game it happened in 2013. "Future Days" was released in the 2013, which, acording to the show's timeline, could've never happened. "All Or None" was released in 2002. Could it be a hint that they're trading "Future Days" for "All Or None" for Season 2, avoiding chronology controversies? Just another nerdy thought of mine Edited Wednesday at 08:05 PM by FamousActor_
dieseltech20
Pretty simple really. Episode 7 was the left behind DLC. Used to show why she is not giving up on Joel like he wanted her to. Surely no one expected that to be left out? Algonquin Assassin

It’s integral to her backstory and shows how what happened with Riley shaped her as a person and the decisions she makes later in the episodes which appear chronologically. I would’ve been annoyed if it wasn’t included or watered down like some people saying it should’ve been 5-10 minutes. Yeah, no. Overall I thought it was fun. From the simple things like how she gets enjoyment simply for using an escalator lol to the arcade. Loved the Daytona USA and Mortal Kombat II cameos. For me this episode proves Bella is capable of steering the ship where she needs to. Her portrayal of Ellie impresses me more and more with each episode. TwistOfLime21
Episode 8 was pretty fun. Loved finally seeing angry Ellie. Hard to believe that next week is the last one. It doesn’t help that they wasted two episodes on minor characters.
FamousActor_
So... In the beginning I felt like we were going for a 10/10 show. Now it's more like a 8/10. Don't get me wrong, that's still great and way above average. However, they're not reaching the highs I imagined they could. My main issue is with the pacing. I'm having trouble with the pacing since Episode 05. Sometimes it's too slow (Episode 07), and sometimes it's rushed (Episode 08). Some of the script changes were for the best, some were for the worst... All things considered, this show is a very good adaptation, but the game still reigns supreme in my book. And, unfortunately, I don't think the last episode is going to change much about my overall perception. Edited 1 hour ago by FamousActor_
