Ondr4H
I still dont know, why they put so many resources to minigames that are unfunny and mostly for one try. For example televisions or internet. I never felt entertainment from this, sorry this is chore not fun. Fairground in GTA V , another one try minigame that Im betting takes a lot resources to do. I just wonder why there is no crime side activity, but we have fairground instead. Side activities with friends in GTA IV, I always ended drunk because its pure fun. I love bowling in real life, In game not so. Tennis, golf ... Geez. I can only hope we get actual crime related side activity in next installments. sabitsuki and Lock n' Stock
Algonquin Assassin
With the exception of yoga I really don’t have a problem with any of the minigames. They help flesh out the game worlds and to make them feel more interactive IMO like a real place. I wouldn’t consider the in game tv and internet to be “minigames” though. More like another way for R* to express satire and the internet has a practical purpose and it’s essential to the GTA IV ‘s and GTA V’s settings. When comes to the minigames like anything I guess some are better than others. My personal favourites are bowling, pool and darts. Even tennis and golf aren’t that bad for some down time. I don’t expect GTA VI will stray away too much. I could see RDR2’s fishing being dropped in as minigame/activity. Lock n' Stock
Stuff like bowling and pool weren't too bad. Yoga however was utter wank. Shame on the moron who suggested that should be an activity. Give us some actual crime-related stuff, not mundane leisure trash. Mister Pink

AkshayKumar
QUB3D > any minigame in 3D era More crime activities would be good but then again GTA IV has my favourite side mission in Most Wanted so yeah. (Is Most Wanted a crime activity, you are acting on behalf of the police but it's still vigilante activity right?) With vigilante missions you’re just going after random criminals, but with Most Wanted you’re going after specific ones. It’s kind of like the bounties in RDR1/2. iiCriminnaaL, Xane_MM, The Tracker and 2 others
TheGodDamnMasterReturns
There wasn't necessarily anything wrong with the minigames. Rather, it was the omission of more compelling side content with worthwhile rewards for completing them. No Paramedic or Firefighting missions to increase your health or become fire/explosion proof (which would have been so much fun to fool around with due to the new Euphoria animations). No home invasions, no gyms to improve your melee combat damage and physique. Stamina could have stayed gone in V. Its just annoying. You dont get any weapon stockpiles at your safehouses for doing the tedious hidden package pickups either. Stunting was removed entirely and you no longer get cash bonuses for completing stunt jumps either. I love IV and enjoy V but they cut some great stuff out. It almost comes across as this borderline pretentious desire to not feel like a video game, but instead a world simulator. billiejoearmstrong8
I think in all the games some are good and some are bad. For me in HD era pool, tennis, golf, QUB3D and dancing in clubs are fun minigames. But yoga, darts, bowling, arm wrestling, high low card, air hockey and the golf driving range are boring and/or horrible. But it's good to have a variety to make the world more interesting. And I like most of the "entertainment" (comedy club, Russian cabaret club, cinema, internet, tv) except the tv in GTA IV is mostly boring and also annoying since you can't switch between channels without it changing to a random point in a random show. But these are just the minigames. If we're talking more broadly about side activities then there's loads that are good including lots of crime based ones in GTA IV at least: - Vigilante (with three different modes) - Most Wanted - Stevie's Car Thefts (and being able to sell any stolen cars afterwards) - Brucie's Exotic Exports - Assassinations - Drug Delivery And in EFLC you also get Gang Wars and Drug Wars (the best infinite side missions of all time in GTA imo), some fun "club management" missions, and motorcycle races where you can hit opponents off their bikes with a baseball bat. V is lacking but IV offers plenty of crime activities. 59 minutes ago, TheGodDamnMasterReturns said: There wasn't necessarily anything wrong with the minigames. I think the side activities themselves are generally more enjoyable in IV and V (excluding collectibles which are always bad). All those vehicle based ones in 3D era were very tedious. They simply should've included better rewards (or in some cases any reward at all!) for the activities that are in those games. The total lack of good rewards in HD era is inexplicable. Especially when another game they made from around the same time that is also a "world simulator" (Red Dead Redemption) has extremely good side activity rewards. Cutter De Blanc
I enjoy Darts. Tennis and golf were well done, if not a little bit out of place If they want to do pool they need to get the physics right I didn't really do any of the other game games more than a few times, like arm wrestling, air hockey, or dancing in SA (though dancing in TBoGT was a fun waste of time) Yoga was just... whoever greenlit that sh*t should have been fired. I remember doing the Yoga on Mt Gordo thinking, well maybe it will unlock more weird cool places to do Yoga but no its just Michael's house or Mt Gordo, like what the actual f*ck? Pistol Bobcat
Always enjoyed Pool, one of the few friend minigames where you know the tables can turn any second, can't believe they just forgot about Pool entirely for V and Online, would looooove to play it against my friends in Tequi-La-La Drug Wars and Gang Wars hell yes! Gang Wars can a chore since Johnny has to carry the whole team and Drug Wars feel like the groundwork for classic contact missions in GTA Online. TLAD and TBOGT at least did something the core game didn't, rewarded you with good money and safehouse weapons for these efforts, Niko should've been given an arsenal at each safehouse for the pigeons and 150k for doing all stunts Edited September 30 by Pistol Bobcat Mister Pink and iiCriminnaaL 1
Mister Pink
Rockstar really need to focus on crime-related side-missions first and foremost. As for activities like the funfair rides as well as internet - I think they are nice additions. It's all about living in the world and saying to yourself "hey, wonder if this thing is interactive" and when it is, it's a beautiful touch. OK, so a lot of resources are being used for some things that are probably used once and not by everyone but it builds the world. It's more interactive and more realistic in a sense. That kind of attention to detail is nice. Like Max Payne and the taps operated and the toilets flush and the piano can be played etc. Having said that, Rockstar lost me with f*cking Yoga. If they think the average young fella that loves what amounts to a crime simulation series, GTA, is going to sit on their fat arses playing some yoga simulator it just goes to show how tone deaf even Rockstar can be. Rockstar should put focus on criminal side activities that allow you to earn rewards; unique clothing, cash, unique cars etc. Keep the internet for the laugh and any other little things that might make the world more fleshed out. But know your audience. We don't want to play f*cking yoga. Xane_MM, Lock n' Stock, iiCriminnaaL and 2 others 3 1 1 RUBBΣR░J♢HNNY (スオッ)

I get that it's supposed to tie in with Michael's "retirement" lifestyle, but I found before GTA V's release R* were oddly indulgent of it and certainly more than any other minigame. They made it front and centre. The strange thing is from a design perspective it's actually quite well done (for how much you could make Yoga I guess), but that just makes the omission of other things people would've preferred even more damning and disappointing that they would choose to put so much effort into something that's become a meme in itself and no one seems to like. greggrulzok
Rockstar f*cked it up by not putting puzzle minigames when Michael goes with the therapist, would have loved sum sh*t like these XBLA games or Wii ones instead of hearing that boring talk.
