Was Roman's Appartment really that bad?

sh*t was pretty trash tbh. I guess it's a studio? IDK it was heinous and it was also by the subway, so noisy too. And in a dangerous, slummy (but charming) area. Roaches too, and probably owned by a slumlord considering how beat it looked. 1/10 would not live there. I think it's cool for the story, but honestly to be someone actually living there I'd probably KMS lmfao.

With how bad the Section 8 is where I live, this could totally happened. One woman was on the news, had hundreds of cockroaches crawling up the walls in her apartment with her kids. America don't care lmfao

I think it was bad in terms of expectations that Roman set for Niko (a mansion and babes), but in 2023 NYC terms, an apartment like that is easily above $1K/month rent with some basic roach patrol maintenance so that the apartment doesn't get reported.

Taking into consideration he was claiming it to be a "mansion" and in reality it turned out to be a roach infested dump, I'd say it really was THAT bad

My biggest concern about that dive was how close the portable gas heater was to the mattress.  If something went wrong while Johnny was sleeping on it, he would end up being crispy.

I think that the proposed wallpaper and paint schemes are quite far out, but they are an improvement on Roman's original apartment; it no longer has that drug-den-esque vibe.

Well in what way? Seems fine to me, I sort of like small apartments but the problem with it is that it's a mess, if he managed to keep it clean it wouldn't be an issue and another is that the area it is located is too noisy, you have the train right above your head but at least the hot dogs guy is there, the funland and the beach (but I doubt you can swim there).

No, it wasn’t that bad.  I never understood why Niko was bitching so much about the apartment.  It was a, what, 400/500 ft2 studio apartment in NYC?..  the fact that he was even able to get a lease in NYC is pretty impressive in itself; most landlords in NYC (not just Manhattan) will not rent you an apartment unless you have a certain net worth threshold of which Roman certainly would not have met.

 

It wasn’t as bad as Niko and everyone else makes it out to be.  It had a kitchen, a couch, and a TV.  I’m not sure what else a single dude really needs.

And by the way, yes it had cockroaches.  Newsflash, Niko himself quipped that the only thing big were the cockroaches.  Big cockroaches are a normal sight in any home in America, especially in certain locales and in certain times of the year.  No matter how immaculate you keep your home, it’s just a fact of life.  That doesn’t mean the apartment was dirty...

 

Now, if your home has those little tiny cockroaches ... you know the ones that usually hang out in large packs and scatter everywhere ... then you’re just nasty.

And one last thought, some may sympathize that Niko was lied to and that’s why he’s sour about the apartment, but Niko had known Roman his whole life, and on multiple occasions acknowledged that Roman’s personality was somewhere borderline between a bulsh*tter and a liar.  Knowing that a person has these traits and still believing something so outlandish like a Mansion in NYC and big tiddy ladies and the such is naive on Niko’s part, the only person he should have been mad at was himself.

I think Niko has anticipated Roman's lies and has lowered his expectation. No way it's a mansion, at least it's just an average lower mid-class apartment. But he doesn't expect it to be a worse sh*thole than his already low expectation lmao.
