Imagine now children in a GTA game, R* and T2 would just dig their own grave. Only child reference in a GTA game are strollers in GTA4 and the beauty pageant (if you know, you know). Well it is a bit a thing of the past due to being violent games, but I doubt they will put kids mainly due to whatever awful things modders will do on PC. Anyway if it was possible, it will be immersive indeed as the GTA worlds get biggers and it is a re-imagining of real world cities, they have to be immortal and with their parents, unlike in cyberpunk which is a worse world than a gta, they are roaming around that dystopian city alone lol. Also they have to be very few in specific small areas, playground/school areas ONLY, also depending on their age. Either way it isn't possible. If they aren't entirely absent, then they are only in areas where the player can't use weapons and/or are invulnerable to damage. (for example Elder Scrolls, Fallout & Mafia) I don't really care about the absence of kids in GTA but IMO society's stance on where they draw the limit of acceptable is a little hypocritical because mass murdering random people on the streets is fine on the other hand, as long as they're of legal age to be murdered ofcourse. Similarly with manhunt being controversial where you are tasked to kill individual people, but being able to kill 20 villagers collecting berries in Age of Empires is viewed as acceptable even for Youtube streaming. Ever notice there's very barely any depictions of direct racism in the games (particularly pre HD era). Again Rockstar playing it safe, in a place like Angel Pine or Montgomery in San Andreas there'd be some slurs flying. It's hilarious in retrospect how perspective of sex in games has changed too, today nobody would give a crap about hot coffee but in 2005 it was a big enough deal to attract Hilary Clinton. Shooting up innocent children not so much. The point of GTA isn't to be as violent and offensive as possible. Shooting children in a video game, that's a true thing of substance and a lesson on how to be good at life right there. It would have hurt a lot the popularity of the game. For me personally, I don't really give a damn about it, I mean it's just a video game - but for many people it's a rather sensitive topic to talk about, so yeah.
