Mapping Vice City / Map Discussion Thread (NO LEAK FOOTAGE ALLOWED)

A thought i had since the Georgia number plates came up: It doesn't necessarily mean we'll get Georgia or parts of it in the game. R* could implement cars with plates from neighbouring states for immersion, to flesh out the GTA-USA more. In real life you see cars with number plates from other states or countries from time to time, too.

Could be a cool way to introduce new states to the lore.

The license plate appears in Americas 2022-06-27 14-52-04. It's the clip of a dev driving the Ford Ranchero-based vehicle off a bridge in the city. The license plate has the state abbreviation of GL instead of GA, which is what Georgia's real abbreviation actually is.

 

The license plate's design looks to be mostly based on the 1960s Georgia license plate

Already you could have Liberty, Alderney, San Andreas, North (and South, I suppose) Yankton, as well as Leonida very easily. I always thought it was surprising those weren't options in V.

I can see Georgia existing somewhat as the state directly north, featuring characters from there or businesses or sports teams, coming down to Leonida for various reasons but more as you said for making the world feel bigger and more immersive.

 

Don't think we'll see a full on Georgia state included unless that's for Online down the line.

 

*Extra* There could even be southern Georgia implemented as parts of northern Leonida (think how RDR2 blended real life states into RDR singular ones)...

I feel like if we're getting Georgia as a seperate location and not as "Northern Leonida", Rockstar can do what they did with RDR1's rendition of Mexico and only show only a part of Georgia, with canonically making the northern body of water a humongous river, like it is with Paleto Bay and San Fierro/Flint County.

Hopefully it is a interstate licence plate though. Just playing Devil's advocate

Do we know what rockstar section got leaked in 2022? Because what if they were just positioned on the south of the map? Clearly from the trailer there are sections of the map in between port gellhorn and vice city. Also are there coordanits for York town or anything like that

If Rockstar makes references to the Diddy affair with the mansion he has on Star Island, that would make the game even more current in my opinion. Imagine that at 5 am you hear screams throughout the mansion? It would be disturbing.

On the mapping project website there's a checkbox to see all the leak positions, the blips are a little bit everywhere but none for Yorktown.

So we don't know how far north the map goes or what it looks like.

I always believed in the hypothesis that the leaked clips were just from some specific sectors of some regions of the map, which is why I think the developers of the leaks weren't that far north. I also believe that there may be one or two more lists of world events, as it makes no sense for there to be little information about events North of Leonida.

The thing that confused me about that article is that they also mention R* India was set to work on Vice Beach, but a lot of the clips (actually most) are elsewhere. So my theory is that it's a R* India employee that was tricked, but the channel teapot could access had videos from employees from a bit all over. Perhaps there were many many more clips but he didn't know what he was looking at and only got a fraction of them, enough for blackmail and his one way ticket to the loony bin.

He also had a screenshot of a PDF document but we don't have the document itself. Which makes me think he had stuff he didn't get to leak before being arrested, and probably access to even more that he didn't even download.

I think it was mentioned in the world event lists or something, so we just know there's a Yorktown. The map just has the name positioned based on the real city they think it represents. Nothing else is known.

I feel like this thread needs an FAQ or Q&A on Page 001. There's a lot of small questions that are impossible to know the answers to, without searching through 272+ pages.

 

Little things like being curious how we know the names of some locations or how we know a certain place is where it is on the map, etc. It's cool to see the progress, but without an easier way of understanding how or why, it's often a little confusing or hard to understand/follow.

The only thing we have of Yorktown is a road sign in Port Gellhorn, on the bay bridge road, so somewhere north of the bridge.  Doesn't appear in the events.
