Surely Rockstar’s best play now is to acknowledge it and say something along the lines of…

”I guess the cat’s out the bag so let’s make it official”

and then release a small teaser and title.

I think they'll just announce the game next month without saying anything about the leak.

i'd be careful being too optimistic, the most realistic scenario is the game is gonna auto adjust it depending on the character sitting in the car to prevent clipping

and i'd recommend cautiously optimistic in general, not because the LEAKS LOOK AWFUL WOW I CAN'T BELIEVE A VERSION MULTIPLE YEARS BEFORE RELEASE ISN'T POLISHED or anything dumb like that but not all features you see in these super early builds will make it to the release build, it's just how game dev goes
same goes the other way around there's probably a f*ckton of things we haven't seen at all

Yea you’re absolutely correct. We now have a very small taste of what they have in store. But all in all, their goal is to blow us away with the unexpected. Each iteration of GTA has to be drastically better or it won’t be worth it to them. They said that in some interview a while back, don’t really remember. But it makes sense that we should expect something bigger and better than GTA5 and RDR2 combined. They’ve had so much time to trial/error and find more of what the players want to see done. I’ll stay optimistic but realistic.

It said that the cops would recognise any vehicle that they are in;

reminds me of mafia 2 where you would have to change clothes and cars, or licence plate;

nortoirety would be great

You guys realize this footage is meaningless now since rockstar will scrap this and start all over again. So the leak is virtually worthless now

@Spider-Vice GTA VI has now been rebooted again. :kekw:

I dusted off this old account after so many years. I can’t believe it’s been this long since the V hype.

To the leaker. I wish you the best.

To R* officials. Good day.

To all those in doubt, even the 1% doubt because it would be ‘too much effort’, and I know I’m going to sound like that guy. Given the legality Nuke bomb this thread is it worries me, but, rest easy. It’s legit.

Yeah that's what happens when people keep posting employee profiles. Talk about the leak all you want but do not target employees!

Created an account just to add to this reply.

There's no indication of this Rakesh guy being the one who leaked. The linkedin profile deletion might be just to avoid spamming and unwanted attention from the fans. The same goes for all the names that appear in the debug lines.

There's thousands of people involved in the project and all of them are required to put their names in the files, debug logs, etc. It's not uncommon to have such demand since it can help debugging and asking if anything goes wrong to the specific guy who made the system. It's the same policy in the game studio where I work.

This sh*twreck gonna just turn into harassment for these devs..

edit: for those wondering.. this will result into a NDA contract break and a multi-million fine. certainly jail. Good luck to the leaker.. ://

Could you zip the folder gta5/src for us after you're awake? This content very important too.

If they take it down wouldn't that be a further proof that the leak is legit?

of course it would.

if it's not real and doesn't use any rockstar property then it will be ignored. if they take it down then it's theirs.

Dude, "Scarface Crime Scene" could raise some legal challenges.

It would be like devs naming the blonde on the title screens of GTA V "Lindsay Lohan".

"Scarface" was originally the nickname given to Al Capone.

This is what GTA V pre-alpha look like. No way, GTA VI look worse than RDR2, can not imagine how, lol!

So I think that the same way R* did for GTA VI, so don't judge this pre-alpha build so soon.

No offence to you sir but you kind  missed the point of my post. I wasn't commenting on the quality of the graphics. I was commenting on the setting not looking too drastically different than Los Santos. That means cars from Los Santos wont look too disimilar to cars in GTA VI. Because there isn't much time between titles. We can assume within 10 years. Certain store fronts and general architechture and clothing doesn't look too disimilar to something you'll see in GTA V.

People kindly responded that they re-use old assets for purposes of testing which I can appreciate. But the crux of my point is an Infernus from 2013 compared an Infernus in GTA VI isn't going to look drastically different because there isn't much difference in the time setting. Because of this, things can look a bit samey. And things like gas stations, palm trees and and mostly blue skies, samey looking police cruisers all look like things we've just been looking at for the last 10 years. I'm just hoping GTA VI will look more different than what we see in the leaks.

When I say the leaks look like a GTAO expansion it's not me critcizing the quality of graphics but having two modern day GTA's back to back, don't facilitate much variety or change in setting. I'm just not convinced there is a enough change environmentally between the two locations that it's going to make me go "wow, this is a new experience." Certainly not like going from a dull and grey GTA III to a bright Vice City back in the day. I just aspire to have very contrast environments and visual palatte between GTAs so it feels fresh and new.

Hey.

Long time lurker here. I have used GTAF since about 2008, and was really active from about 2008-2015.

I have made a new account just to say this as I think it needs to be said.

Let's touch upon the most important thing first:

This is colossal. Everything I'm seeing looks legitimate and the rumours are aligning with this. From the bonnie/clyde storyline [I see two apparent protags] to the Vice City setting and even references I've seen to other GRAND THEFT AUTO games [ie: the tech guy who was killed in V as spoken by the junkie]. While this material probably isn't massively polished [perhaps 1-2 years away from that], it certainly is something, and the depth to this material is quite indisputable IMO. This is either the most elaborate fake I have seen, or real. I'm 90% sure it's the latter.

So what this mean, and what is there to say? First and foremost, this will probably end the era of game designers sitting on content for a stupid amount of time to build hype [in this instance a decade]. The cyber reality of the modern world means attacks like this are increasingly common. Building up huge hype without saying anything is not only exploitative of fans, but opens companies up to absolutely colossal hacks such as this one. The bottom line: what's the point? This probably would not have happened had Rockstar given us something already. The game is seemingly in some kind of workable state, to the extent that they probably could've done something, even concept art with a logo on it. They could've said something and they know it, instead they stayed silent, riding off the time-induced hype.

Legally speaking, I wish you all the best OP. The finest IP lawyers in the world will be working on this case right now from the City of London. They would've been called in over the weekend on gold standard pay to manage this breach. People will be hunting you like a shark.

I also have to thank you. This probably marks a shift in how game designers view hype cycles.

We will probably never see a wait for a game as long as we have done for GTA6 without receiving anything ever again.

It's simply too big of a risk now. Their approach has necessitated this kind of attack by desperate fans IMO. You simply can't sit on a follow up to the most successful media of all time and not say anything for almost ten years. The world does not work like that anymore.

Put simply, this is an historic attack. It will have implications that go beyond the gaming industry.

Edit:

One final comment. The damage of this leak has stripped them of a HUGE amount of media attention. I imagine Rockstar wanted to announce the Latina protagonist to give their brand a more positive image, after previous headlines the business faced [ie: violent kids, hot coffee]. This has now been stripped as everybody knows the protag is clearly a latina woman. The announcement of GTA6 will also not be a surprise anymore, so that's two zinger pieces of news that have lost their zing factor. What's bad about this is that they have lost control of the hype. Usually hype is managed for media releases very carefully to ensure people don't get bored. It's a constant baiting of the audience up until release. I imagine their marketing department have an ultra specific and well-studied plan for the marketing based on psychological studies. This has now gone up in the air. The team will be having to rethink it all on Tuesday.

Agree 100% with all the points. This was a ticking bomb and bound to happen.
