Looking great! We see Vice City and if I'm not mistaken also Los Santos? So multiple cities, which is an exciting prospect. Physics look good as well, more realistic than V, which honestly disappointed me when it came out. Had more fun with the physics of IV than V, but VI looks like it'll be great. Still no moving hair though? Guess details like that are WIP

I am also 6 years in Unity development. You can cleary see if something is created in Unity or Unreal Engine, the whole engine interface can't be hidden like that. It's real and it's RAGE.

They can't. They just had a major security breach, and as such must notify any affected parties. They're stuck in a corner where the best case scenario is they acknowledge the breach, without directly confirming the legitimacy of the footage. The downside is that it indirectly confirms the footage is real. There's no way out.

This is 100% legit. All the debug information makes sense, they're using Dear ImGUI as the debug UI showing perfectly believable information, as shown before by Rockstar themselves HERE. The assets shown aren't part of any GTA game shown before, if anything, just some vehicles, but none of the map/character assets. Rockstar has shown before how they'll reuse vehicle assets anyways, as it just makes sense being in the same universe and high quality assets. Even the police car, that I believe is a new model anyways, has custom textures indicating the location (Vice City).

 

To make a leak like this, you would need to actually be making a game about Vice City (which isn't legal and no one would put money into this) or a very similar game and change all the references to Vice City. 

 

And after seeing part of the code, it has been made by people that has been in Rockstar for +15 years but aren't generally known names (David Muir).

 

I'm a game developer and love making not only games, but game engines and graphics stuff. This stuff looks very legit and similar to the tools I would use while working (though much more refined), I have absolutely no doubt it's not fake.

This fake is made directly for the people like you, who knows some facts about game development, but can't see a bigger picture.
It showing correct debug information just because it's a real working game build. But the little important detail here is just: this is not GTA. And you will buy any reskinned game as GTA 6 alpha footage. Good luck with it!

Yeah that's what I was saying before, the earlier they formally announce, the greater control they can have on accurate representation of quality & PR.

this is unfinished, in-development footage, that is subject to change so naturally it's gonna look like gta v. the look of the game will probably be finalized later, if it hasn't been already

Best move for them now is to ignore and release a trailer that represents what they want the final game to look like. Attention will quickly shift.

a proper character reveal trailer for Lucia alone i reckon would overshadow most of this, it all seems like a huge deal because its rockstar but what we are actually seeing is mostly just core GTA mechanics. 

 

Start talking about the story/characters and the mystery stays alive. They still have everything that makes their games special hidden up their sleeves.

Thank you. I really can't see any games dev team thinking this is a good idea ever again. The resulting damage from this leak vs them having said something already [and potentially avoiding the leak] will be insane. Their legal fees will run into the millions just to limit damage for this. There is also the risk of Rockstar getting sued, depending on what assets were released [ie: the music could've been technically unlicensed for public use, which may lead some record labels to sue them]. 

 

The damage to rockstar from this leak is really unfathomable. I wouldn't be surprised if this delays things, as it is a behemoth task for the legal team to fix and there is so much new risk they have to tackle. 

 

Expect something official from Rockstar within the next eight weeks. It is a no brainer that they need to announce it now to reduce further risk. Doing this will also take the leaked content out of the spotlight and ease some stress around that.
