Well yeah if they want to make it look like they've been hacked, it could be a publicity stunt. The whole situation just doesn't add up, 18 yr old casually leaking GTAVI and going to bed, waking up surprised the leaked footage is viral, footage still on YouTube with 2.3 million views. We've had no story spoilers, no logo or map spoilers. Fairly clean gameplay. With all that being said I'm really not sure, it could very well be a legitimate hack, I guess only time will tell. 

 

If nothing else gets leaked then it's sus for me imo.

 

Edit: actually I'm leaning more towards legitimate hack. I don't think rockstar would show that much of the game off.

I want to give my opinion on whether or not the leaks are a good thing, even though there's *checks notes* exactly zero people who asked me.

 

First, I do genuinely sympathize with the devs because they probably are going to have a rough time with this. 

 

Secondly, the extortion aspect is pure bullsh*t scumbaggery because Take Two are greedy dickheads when they DON'T have a good excuse. Giving them one means they'll clamp down even harder on everything else.

 

Thirdly, I feel zero pity towards T2 for the leaks themselves. We have waited nine f*cking years for a single teaser image and come up with only 'we're working on it' and some rumors that, while apparently true, we had nothing to go on otherwise. Perhaps if they'd stopped milking GTAO for five minutes, and put out something, I'd be a bit more in their corner. But nah, f*ck 'em.

 

You can say "well, it's not ready yet" and while not technically wrong, GTA V obviously looked a lot different when it was revealed. So did IV. They've had so damn long. Hell, communicate *at all*. They've been working on it since 2019? That means two or three years ago, they could have given us even the smallest crumbs of info but they never did. It's f*cking pathetic that after so long, it was a leak that revealed the very first official details on the game. Disgraceful. 

 

That said, as I said much earlier, I'm hyped as hell.

So what's the play here from Rockstar?

 

Acknowledge the leak with a press release?

Say nothing?

 

I can't imagine they'll delay the game to "change it". We've seen it now and they'll have to accept they've lost some of the element of surprise.

 

There's still dev time left but it must be near the polish and bug squash stage, being such a massive game.

 

A Fall 2023 date might make sense as this is when the most money can be made.

 

Also, while I can understand this is heartbreaking for the devs, they have milked the hell out of GTA Online. They never gave us single player DLC for GTA V. RDR2 online was never as substantial as it could've been.

 

GTA 6 could have come out sooner. I get that it made more business sense to milk GTAO, but there's something to be said about pleasing the fans as well. And yes, RDR2 needed the whole team on it, but 10 years in-between games seems excessive.

 

I've always been skeptical of GTA 6 since Benzies and others left, so it remains to be seen how much of a Rockstar North game it feels like. I'm open to be pleasantly surprised though.

There's like 23 videos from 2022 as well,  but yea, fully agree this is not a R* leak.

North was the lead studio for RDR2, along with San Diego. They don't work separately anymore, and VI is no different.
