Yes, when working on a sequel especially devs will use assets from the previous game as they are going to be pretty similar, once the back-end stuff like in this footage is all working then new models and assets will replace the original ones, and you are correct the engine in called RAGE it's in house and R*'s own and over time this will be updated, no idea what this footage is using or what the actual game will use either, but they would have been working on the basis of the current gen at the time likely Xbox One and PS4 but also on what the top end PC hardware was at that time as they would likely be what the next consoles would be, they cannot make a game to require a more powerful PC than they are using at the time really, well you can but you know what I mean.

 

There is no question GTA VI will look great on Xbox Series S/X or PS5 and PC but I don't think it's going to be the huge jump from IV to V, it will be better than V looks on Xbox Series S/X or PS5 and PC but more likely just have more detail and more going on like NPC's and cars moving about.

Once I leaked only one small piece of information, that they were working in a new GTA that would pass in North Yankton, I thought that I was smart as hell, only took hours to they find me, fire me and sue me, I feel really bad about you.

Actually, after that, they focused in GTA Online, cancelled this intermediate GTA between V and VI, like Vice City, San Andreas and others were an intermediate between III and IV, I just leaked a "nothing" of a minor GTA, just imagine you that leaked the mainship.

Yet, I feel sorry about'em, I've learned my lesson and since then, I got no new job in the big industry.

i mean they compile early builds in release too to test stuff, and that does not mean that it is meant to be released.

and there is no alpha compile target.

I would be VERY surprised if the leaker has more than the shown stuff. I doubt he has the full source code. Usually the version control servers / all other servers in general are blocked behind extra security.

The clips shown and probably the small source code snipped are just from the chat program, which most likely has no extra security attached - so the videos which were attached to normal chat messages could be accessed only with login data.

Test build, maybe, if they had some serious security issues how they deploy their builds to testers. But i really, really doubt he had access to the full source code / depot.

 

I also dont think the devs are bummed out by a few videos which show bugs / debug features. Yes, people will say it looks bad, but who with more than 5 braincells cares. Its obviously in progress.

 

He's already proven he's got the full source code.

Yeah the image popped up in the Telegram when I was watching it. But it wasn’t there for long. Thought nothing of it at the time as mods were swiping spam left right and centre.
