I can't imagine the balls and bravery you need to have in order to blackmail one of, or maybe, the biggest entertainment company in the world.

For the love of the people who spent hours and hours working on this game we all love, please don't ruin their work more than this

WFH work will probably be affected. Having their internal comms in Slack(saw somewhere employee got phished through Slack though not sure if that's real) i feel like is a security risk. I don't believe you can limit, or lock down slack access to VPN or internal network only.

No it won't. Slack is used for internal communication all the time, even if all your staff is working at the office. Specially when you have multiple teams working on the same piece of software, and they all have to have access to the code. As soon as an account is compromised, getting access to internal stuff is trivial on most companies... It won't change anything, never has, never will, because these things happen regardless of WFH or not. Check HL2/Nintendo/Capcom leaks

Hey guys,

Not gonna talk about the content of the leaks nor about a potential delay caused by all of this.

I just wanted to ask you guys if I’m the only one that for the first time after years is getting that classic Rockstar Games open world feeling of “freedom” and “exploration” by seeing the map horizon in all those leaks, just knowing that most likely another singleplayer masterpiece story is awaiting us makes me feel the butterflies in my stomach!

Despite the controversy of a big company getting hacked I’m very happy seeing the footage today and I think who has a slight understanding of early states of a videogame is gonna be happy as well, hopefully it doesn’t escalate in something bigger and it doesn’t damage the game itself too much.

If anyone is sharing this same feeling I think we all deserve it and this is one of the most wholesome gamer moments!

We were here!

The leak didn't happen because work from home. It happened because their employees didn't follow security protocols when accesing their data.

Yeah, and those security protocols were needed cause they worked from home.

was the assumption that this is uber related based purely on his name and the recent uber hack news? i spent 5 seconds reading about that hack and it was an 18 year old who posted a dick pic to the uber slack after phishing an employee. Seems a bit of an escalation and not to mention REACH to then do this to rockstar a week later.

A dick pic in a slack exposing security is one thing, the amount of money at stake here is another beast entirely... question everything

Especially one so notorious for going after people that do things like this, or hack/mod the game.

Issue isnt Slack. The posted videos is a bummer, but not that bad.

The worst is how he got access to the source code and a build without directly working on a devs hardware. This sh*t should be locked behind vpn and hardware identification - even when working from home.

The level to which this scenario has gone can not only affect the individual but also the forum. I feel scared.

Imagine it is 2013, GTA V just released, and a random person comes to you and tells you in 9 years GTA 6 will be leaked entirely… unbeliavable

So this has turned from a leak to a blackmail, what he is doing now is definitely immoral and illegal.

Correct. An employee called Rakesh essentially opened up a phishing email that looked like an official Slack email.

That's not true, It is unknown what employee did it. The Rakesh name was in one of the files in Slack, but it could have been anyone...

any source on this? because that's the guy whose name was on one of the files but that doesen't mean the hacker gained access through his account

None, it's false.

No they are not needed because WFH. DO you even know what kind of tools a software development company uses? Slack is used everywhere because it's one of the best software out there for team communications, regardles of in house or not...

Hope the source code does not get leaked, would only push the release date further.

At first I was excited, now I'm really worried. I wonder if all of this could have been avoided somehow

There is no evidence anything else has actually happened beyond someone gaining access (which the evidence they had was that dick pic being posted). Everything else around the "hack" is speculation based on the fact the user COULD have accessed user data.

I miss the independent thinking lessons we use to get on these forums honestly alot of the no avatar users visiting today could use the guidelines.

This leak will force rockstar to either announce the game or make a statement regarding the leaks. This could have possibly forced rockstar to announce it earlier.

To anyone who thinks that screenshot of the blackmail is real. Cmon, this isn't a Hollywood movie. Lol

Great Britain

Ouch.

Honestly, for the sake of R* I was hoping this footage was from like 2014-15 but apparently its from 2021. Eeks

Well, I wish you luck in trying to negotiate with Mr. uber hacker here, for all the dirt he clearly has on you guys.

Next time, try and avoid staying silent for so long. Idk that might help.

The uber hack literally had multiple things compromised, like the access to the hacker one account or the AWS instances. It was more than just a dick pic on a chat app. https://www.theverge.com/2022/9/16/23356213/uber-hack-teen-slack-google-cloud-credentials-powershell

Holy sh*t. Blackmail? That's genuinely a crime, OP, and I'm pretty sure that T2/R* will just file a report with the FBI or whoever handles cybercrimes.

This is huge. There's a very real possibility that authorities of some kind get involved. Absolutely insane.
