I'm a software developer. I do know more or less how this could affect their milestones in the software design. Looking at GTA5 they have never cared about the online that much anyway. Cheating still happens a lot, and you can still see it online, so nothing they've done for 6 will be different. They might delay it a bit so they can add some extra protections, but the source code leaking won't delay the game that much.

I've seen people say this is from the 2019 build as well, based on the version and code of windows it's being run on, that's already almost 4 years away so this game must be looking INSANE at this point ;D

The best thing he can do now is just disappear. Nobody from R* or T2 is going to pay him.

They will do an internal investigation + file a lawsuit, maybe hire some private investigators and that is it.

If he thinks he is going to get some money from them then he is delusional.

PS4/PS5 are hackable/moddable already to some capacity, so the console versions are as affected as the PC version. Rockstar has always liked to delay PC versions for whatever reason they liked, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same here...

Maybe, however looking back at history, Half Life 2 was delayed by a year due to the source code leak.

Back in 2003 Valve was breached also (with the different back then the guy actually hacked Valve's internal network, not some social engineering trickery like this teenager did). Valve promised him a job, got him a plane to USA from Germany, and FBI greeted him in the airpot:)

Half Life was delayed for more than just a source code leak. The development of that game had many issues along the way, the source code was just another thing on the list.

Honestly why do you care? They have more than enough money and this won't hurt devs because they are already paid. The way you speak makes it seem as if they only get paid once the project is finished. Worse case scenario they will have to rewrite some code to avoid future breaches but even that they are paid for.

UK is different. UK is in a close sphere of American influence + Rockstar has studios in UK. United Arab Emirates are not lol. What are they going to do to him? Send international corporate mercenaries to his doorstep?

Console versions are affected, but like I said not nearly to same capacity as PC. No game of this caliber is "un-cheatable"

I suppose we'll never know as we dont have a release date from Rockstar anyway.

 

We may be able to assume if we get a trailer and the the release window is 3+ years from now.

So 2025 or even 2024 is definitely still in the realm of possibilities? It's good to hear it from someone who knows a lot more about it than me. And that's even the worst case scenario too, right? If the guy DOES have the source code. So in the case he doesn't, it's not a real big setback? 

 

The tweets from earlier made it sound like it was really bad news in many ways, including delays.
