So I bought a Hangar...

Some people said I shouldn't, it doesn't really do much for me, but I felt the need to get it, if only for the ability to store and customize planes.  However, now that I have it, I don't see how to customize my planes.  Do I need the workshop too?

Well that was "fun."  Did my first supply mission, had to shoot down three nearly indestructible cargo planes, and about half a dozen escorts.  This part was actually fun.

Next I had to land, go get the cargo, and run back to my plane.  However, the second I get the cargo, enemy jets appear shooting rockets at me.  No way to avoid it, no way to get back to my plane, they just rocket me into oblivion over and over before I can even move.  I did get back to my plane at one point, but cars on the road kept running into me, preventing me taking off, so... rocketed into oblivion again, and the cargo was "destroyed," mission failed.

I say it a lot, what was I supposed to do?  I'm on the GROUND, on FOOT, how am I supposed to get to my plane if they blow me up with unavoidable rockets the second I respawn?

Second one was easier, just a bit of a pain trying to shoot down endless instantly spawning helicopters.

I think I was one of those people. Please tell me you at least got one on fort Zancudo and not the LS airport.

As for point 1, yes, you need the workshop.

For point 2, at least you learned a couple things.

You don't need to get out of your vehicle to pick up these crates. Use a Hydra, helicopter or Depressor, and hover over the crates to  and pick them up automatically.

You can often also scoop them up from the ground (or from the air) with an agile plane.

In this particular mission, the cargo drops slowly on parachutes, and you should have plenty of time to fly into it to pick it up before it reaches the ground.

Check the map icons to see if they're above or below you. I almost never have one of those crates reach the ground, and if they do, I can usually scoop them up.

Failing that, well, I know what happens if I pick them up on foot, so I'll free aim a couple missiles (or explosive cannon fire) to destroy the cargo.

Once you get into a situation which you described, you and your cargo are done for.

Ya, I saw it on the parachute, but I was in a dogfight with like, five planes and didn't have a chance to grab it.  Even Iceman had trouble with those odds, and I had no Maverick to help out.

For that mission, I would shoot down the fighter jet escorts BEFORE trying to shoot down the cargo planes. That way, you can grab the crate in the air without having to worry about getting shot down because no more fighter jets will spawn until AFTER you have collected the crate. Once you have the crate, get it back to your hangar ASAP, swerve as needed to dodge enemy missiles.

Noted for reference.

Having said all this, I like that the hangar missions send me out in a plane, sometimes ones I've never flown (such as the one based on the Russian MiG 15).

Tried grabbing the crate in the air, but it was flatly impossible to do.  The thing is invisible until you're actually flying past it, and fine control of the plane is impossible when flying by mouse and keyboard.  DAMN, I wish I could use my joystick, I'm actually a darn good pilot.

A question about cargo...

I usually play as a CEO, but I play solo.  Thus, I only fill my small warehouse half way, so I don't have to make multiple deliveries.  Same with gunrunning, counterfeiting, etc.  So, how much cargo can I collect in my hangar before I can no longer solo deliveries?

Max 10 crates for one person, max 25 for 2. After that you need 3, maybe 4 but I haven't tested that.

Don't worry if you see 3 Havoks spawn, they only have 2 drops each and are fast enough. It is still perfectly doable solo, if you can fly them.

However, if you get the Mogul for a sale (same one you got for Titan escorting), you might want to abort and get a different sale mission. You will be shot down if you do that one solo.
