Does story look better than online or is that just me?

For some reason, the lighting and characters look better than in online. In online, characters legit look like theyre made of clay.

idk man the one thing I liked about online is how you could work your way into an entrepreneurship of illegal businesses and clubs. It's a shame that's only specific to online tho. It'd be great if that stuff was worked into single player

your eyes do not deceive you

in general online looks worse in every way. this is not exaggeration or hyperbole. ambient props are completely depopulated: go to the same place in both modes and you'll notice in SP that there's litter, that mailboxes and streetside props always spawn. vehicle traffic is severely limited. air and sea traffic is nonexistent except in missions. ped density is also limited and ped spawning is considerably less diverse: go into south central los santos and you'll notice that 90% of the foot traffic are apart of the downtown/"office" spawning group. various weather effects are disabled, along with shadow detail and render distance. and obviously, no animals.

fidelity, across the board, is down. maybe this is for sync, or performance, or server reasons. im not an expert on this stuff. but it's night and day

this is more specific, but still inexcusable. recent gta online car models are incredibly detailed and i'll commend them for that; from my understanding rockstar bought out one of the indian studios that worked on forza cars seemingly to exclusively work on vehicles. character models are a major f*ckup however

it started, i think, around maybe doomsday heist. i dont know if this was to prioritize more 'sophisticated' elements of modeling on rdr2 and gta 6 and functionally putting a B team on characters (i hope this is the case) or it speaks to a general decrease in model quality, but rockstar have been reusing gta online character assets nonstop for all new models. you might think that returning characters like gay tony or brucie look really bad, or even that they were made in the gta online character creator - your eyes do not deceive you. all of their clothing assets are essentially slight retextures of clothes they added for the player character years ago. their face textures are reused from the creator - brucie's face texture is literally just the one used for the 'benjamin' parent model in the creator. same goes for every new enemy: duggans wear business update clothes from 2014, cayo perico guards wear the same two striped polo shirts they added in the beach bum update, and they barely even tried with the 'russian military' models. the list goes on

it looks cheap, it looks ugly, and it looks bad. you compare any new character model to one from gta 5's sp, which are from 2013, then the decrease in model quality, texture quality, and reuse in assets are all readily apparent. this even somewhat applies to the characters they have put a lot of effort into - the f*cking celebrity cameos - who still reuse stray clothing options from the creation suite

It's not just you. I've noticed it since 2014.

Textures look more shallow and somehow lacking in "normal maps" and other rendering effects.

Also as the user above pointed, there are significantly less traffic. GTA V E&E SP has improved traffic and ped density which I've only noticed when my niece was playing, particularly in the freeway and downtown Vinewood.

Overall, GTA Online looks more shallow and primitive compared to SP.

To me both NPCs look like clay in both modes. GTA 4 did it much better.

Story Mode has different weather combinations that don't exist online (rain at night for example), more props around the map making the world feel alive, that's the difference, other than that, it's the same "game".

>tfw nobody mentions the hand-placed lights to emphasize the facial features

This video show it well. Not sure if they do this in Online cutscenes.
