Is this competitive to the other ARs in the game such as the special Carbine and heavy rifle?

Does the suppressor reduce the damage or range at all or have any negative affects?

Silencer: typically it does but not enough to matter.

As for the rest of your question,

The annoying thing is that suppressors reaulting in lower damage is only a game mechanic.

Modern suppressors contain some of the back pressure from the expanding gasses after the bullet leaves the barrel. No part of the suppressor actually contacts the bullet, so this back pressure reduction can only have one effect: make the bullet go faster thus resulting in more range, accuracy and penetration power.

Plot twist. They've made suppressors wrong in real life.

I thought it was just the lying stat bar that changed, not the actual damage.

Suppressors don't actually reduce damage in GTAV/O. The weapon stats at Ammu-Nation are about as accurate as the vehicle stats at LSC.

When a real weapon is supposed to be as quiet as possible, subsonic ammunition is used in addition to a suppressor. So "damage reduction" would make some sense if our characters were exchanging supersonic for subsonic ammo, at least against armored enemies.

Does it have less recoil than the special Carbine mk2? Lower rate of fire? Which is the most accurate? Does not having a heavy barrel effect its damage at longer ranges?

Just try out the weapon yourself. Watching youtube videos or asking others doesn't help. Trying it out yourself is the best way to know, if the weapon is for you or not.
