Should New Items Be Better Than Old?

Each update adds the possibility of new vehicles, new weapons, and new methods of making money.

Should each new item be better than a similar previously released item?

For example:
Should new missions pay more than previously released missions?
Should new cars be faster than previously released cars?

Should new pistols do more damage than previously released pistols?
Etc.

immo love that some cars go faster

but they could also buff the old ones and that doesn't happen a lot.

there should be incentive for playing new content/buying the new stuff i suppose otherwise these updates would be very pointless to play

I think no. Performance, damage, power, speed - that's all good, but that's not always most important.

What matters to me is how the thing looks, how it sounds and whether it's fun to play. I want to have a big choice. Otherwise, it would be enough to have only one best car in its class, one best copter, one best gun of each type and one outfit. Perhaps there are people who play exactly like that.

For example: in this DLC I'm most looking forward to M16, Junk backpack and two cars: Rhinehart and Weevil Custom. I got already two more cars that give me pleasure: Draugur and Omnis e-GT. That's all. The rest of the content doesn't really interest me.

I don't care for powercreep when it comes to cars, I much prefer them just adding more stuff that is equal to the old ones. That way you can still keep using the old cars as well. It's dumb when they put out a new car that absolutely dominates a class, just takes all the variety out of it

I think it's kinda the same with businesses, if they add a new business that makes much more money than the old ones, they'll just raise the prices of everything to compensate for it. But that just makes the old businesses less worthwhile since they become a weaker way to make money than the new best thing. Again I prefer to have a variety of activities to do that are equally profitable, but it's a bit late for that

I think there should be a balance, new content should add more variety rather than adding superior content.

I do see that with cars, I am not a car guy so my opinion is a little poor in this regard but a lot of the new cars we have gotten recently aren't necessarily top of the line, but people buy them because they like how they look.

Like, the Pariah has been the ultimate sports car for a long time despite there being more cars that came after it.

Guns should be the same as well, I believe the rifle we have gotten with The Contract is almost equal to the best rifle we have in the game which is the Special Carbine Mk2, it adds a variety, people start using stuff for what they are rather than to be the best.

So I think a balance is the proper way to go about things, maybe an occasional item throws old stuff back into the line but not with every update.

This right here. Buff, add more things to old stuff, unify the game so it's a more consistent and quality experience.

The newest stuff shouldn't always be faster, do more dmg, or give better payouts. It should just add more variety to the gameplay, and that's all.

I do like that they upgrade older cars lately, and also that they added new game mechanics to the old businesses.

Im looking forward to the M16, i always wanted to have that weapon ingame. I think it is pretty good dmg wise, but a bit less accurate than other weapons.

I hope they change how weapons work in GTA VI, that you have to use short fire bursts to hit targets with automatic weapons, like in normal 1st person shooters like Counterstrike, the older Battlefields, there you can't just shoot with fully automatic and always hit everything. I hope it's a bit more realistic in the new GTA. It's too late to change anything about the weapons in the current GTA, but yeah i hope it gets better in the next one.

I also hope that the car handling and speed makes more sense in GTA VI, i mean how is it realistic that a damn old Toyota Celica from the 90's or something almost has the same topspeed like a Bugatti Veyron, the whole car handling and speed needs a huge overhaul in the next GTA. So many things don't make any sense. There also supers that are much slower than any sports car, the Vapid Bullet is like the worst super in the game. Things like this shouldn't be a thing.

Game could be so varied in making money but sadly 80% of jobs and buisnesses are no longer viable, and having grinded each update , they’re no longer fun

Today i grinded MC Clubhouse contracts with 3 friends, we all earned 4 million in just a couple of hours. We got to the point where we finished the Deathbike Contract in less than 3 minutes by the end. :D

If they would add a permanent 4x bonus to that, and other things like OG contact missions and races, ppl would grind the hell out of that.

I miss the good old Los Santos Connection and Trash Talk etc. days it was pretty fun to do them as fast as you could, doing it with 3-5 other players, everybody just farming the enemies ppl doing their best to get the job done as fast as possible. That needs a big permanent money increase.

The whole ingame economy needs a big overhaul, it's long overdue.

I remember grinding roof top rumble, Los santos connection, extradition etc etc saving up for the buzzard.  1.7 million in increments of 20k took a long time. But buzzard has been warm ever since.

back then, the most expensive car in the game was a million and most supers less than 750k

now the fastest cars are 5x the price but the payout for so many missions remains the same.  8yrs of wasted content cos they won’t index link thre pay seems crazy

My bone stock 811 are still competitive (13 wins and 41 top 3) after all these years against the newly added supercars.

...maybe because the other players can't drive?

Better? Not necessarily - if only to avoid escalating to the point where pistols wind up like the Halo 1 'you can use this instead of a sniper rifle' pistol, or returning to the days of 'everything either a supercar or weaponised'. And as for payouts, making earning power of new stuff better each time incentivises playing it, but in the long run winds up making older activities more or less obsolete (and then you need to go back and mass-rebalance everything).

I think it'd be preferable (and better in the long run) to instead focus on things that fill in the gaps in the game: vehicle types that aren't well represented, weapons with unique features or that feel distinct from existing ones, new activities that make for fresh alternatives to the well-worn money-making methods, and so on. For instance, cars with more interesting customisation options aren't necessarily 'faster' or 'better' in terms of pure performance, but they're fun to own (particularly for car enthusiasts), and unique features go a long way to making them feel sufficiently different from the rest of the crowd.

In short? IMO, power creep is definitely something to avoid - there are plenty of other ways to make the game interesting without resorting to unbalancing it in the interest of instant novelty.

Well that depends on your definition of better tbh. Being better on paper doesnt really mean that something is better.

See, people on youtube are still praising the Emerus and Krieger as the best supercars for racing, yet here I am being able to kick a$$ in my trusty Tempesta. Why? Because it suits my driving style.

People hated the SNS Mk2 when it came out. Well they still do.

I however think its better suited for certain tasks than other guns. Load some fmj rounds and start popping people through bulletproof windows with well placed headshots. It doesnt loose any capacity when using special ammo and if you die you loose very little ammo cutting down on your overall ammo costs.

So, no I dont think that new things need to be better than old stuff. It just needs to be diffrent.

I'd rather drive a vehicle that is enjoyable to drive than a fast one, or use a gun that just feels more fun to use than one that does more damage, I'd rather play a mission that is enjoyable than one that plays like sh*t and gives me a lot of cash.

I'm always against "power creep" in all games. I'm fine with new things being competitive, maybe a slow increase over many years and DLCs, but not outright better. New items should be useful, but not immediately invalidate everything that came before it. New being better effectively removes old content from the game because no one would use it anymore. Old content should always be useful for some reason.

Only if old missions are improved to be comparable in a later DLC. There is no reason to play contact missions, races, survivals, etc. for the money. It's good content that many people never play because it's not worth their time. New content that is put into the old format (ULP and yacht missions are contact missions) are only played once to check out or get the unlock then are never touched again because new modes are better.

I understand that a new DLC needs to do something to draw players back and making new missions that pay better is an lazy way to do it, but it's terrible that all of the old content is forgotten about. GTA has so much content that has been forgotten about because years of new content has made it not competitive. I guess what I'm asking for is that one of the small DLCs each year is used to improve old content to keep it competitive. It's a way to easily introduce "new" content.

Rockstar loves the power creep with cars. Often in DLC one of the expensive day one releases will be the new fastest in class. You have to buy it if you do any racing. Then later in the drip feed will be another expensive new fastest in class, making you spend even more. I'd be reasonably fine with new vehicles being marginally faster than the old best in class, tenth of a second on a specific course, especially if they emphasize a different aspect or have a different weakness. For example: top speed verses cornering or weaknesses like being lightweight or bouncy. I hate when new cars mean I can just throw away all my old cars because they aren't good enough anymore. It's reasonable to have quantifiably better over many years and DLCs, it's dumb to have it in every DLC.

Just like with the above feedback, only if it's better in a different way and only marginally better over several years and DLCs. I hate power creep with guns because it clutters my weapon wheel. At least we can forget old missions don't exist and sell old cars. They need to make the weapon locker functional in all game modes or let us sell unused guns. It's interesting to have to choose a weapon that fits your play style when judging damage, accuracy, recoil, magazine size, and reload speed.

IMHO R* has mostly been doing guns right. The new ones aren't good enough and Mk2 replaced old versions. I'm looking at you Military Rifle, Precision Rifle, and Combat Shotgun. Now let me sell or hide this unused trash. In general I'm against the Mk2 weapons since they are power creep, but the Mk2 mechanic is a good way to bring outdated weapons up to current power level.

23 hours ago, CaliMeatWagon said:

Etc.

I'll talk about businesses and properties here. For the most part R* has implemented businesses without too much power creep and old business have still been kept useful to own. It's no fun when an expensive new one makes owning the old one pointless, especially when we are still paying the daily fees for it. It punishes old players.

Crate warehouses aren't the best money maker anymore, especially considering the long grind, but they are still viable thanks to waiting to sell during bonus weeks and the CE updates of Lupe and selling in invite only sessions. MC businesses aren't worth selling anymore, especially with their long sale missions, but the Night Club gives a reason to own them. Same for the Bunker, but at least the "better" sale missions and ease of only having one vehicle makes it still viable to sell. Research for Mk2 weapons ensures that everyone should have a Bunker. Too bad the Avenger completely outdated the MOC. Hangar crates didn't replace anything because it's the worst business and only worth owning for the aircraft. Auto Shop and Agency added profitable payouts to grind, but the smaller payout size has kept them from overshadowing everything that came before.

Adding the OG heists ensured that everyone would buy an "expensive" apartment instead of just living out of garages. Stilt houses are cool properties to own, but they didn't replace apartments with any new or better features. The I/E car warehouse enhanced the Office, not replacing it. My only real complaint on properties is that the associated heists outdated the previous ones. At least those properties have a reason to be owned: Facility for the Avenger and unique vehicles, Arcade for the MCT, Kosatka for the Sparrow. IMHO it does suck that the Cayo heist does invalidate all other activities because it pays the best and is easy to do solo. This has been the one major misstep R* has had with power creep.

SummerFreeze

No, but it should be different enough and not significantly worse than existing stuff.

The new M16 for example isn't anything special (in objective terms) and I won't be getting it as long as we have no way to permanently remove guns.

The Postlude for example is a very nice looking car but I don't think it's fun to drive. Upgraded it shouldn't drive that much worse than the Savestra.
