This sort of community events got me thinking what else we could get?

You know, I have to ask... why does Rockstar Games think it's acceptable to leave it to dataminers / coders / leakers / whoever to tell us about stuff in the game?
Why isn't there any notification about being required to wait 30 minutes?
There's also the idea like several others are suggesting that you can't just boot up the game and find a Crime Scene within the first five minutes, you need to hang around and do stuff before things start spawning - and again - such information isn't relayed to the player at all.
Pretty poor show if I'm honest.

My bad. I stand corrected.

I didn't check the code attentively. I just saw a function listing it out within the LS Car Meet script, but turns out it only used the Sprunk vending machine.

I think vindictive is more accurate. They know we’ll put up with it and play regardless at this point..

But i guess after you change lobby, bam: you need wait another 20 minutes right? :jkek:

The random events timers reset once you close the game or switch sessions.

There's no point in changing sessions between invite-only lobbies because you basically reset the random event timer back to 30 minutes. However, if you do that with public lobbies, you may just be lucky enough to land into a session where the script host of the freemode script has lounged around enough the random event timer reached 0 thus triggering the event.

And about the "script host" bit. Yes, the way P2P works within GTAO is that there's a session host who handles players joining in/leaving and every networked script has a host. The script host of the freemode script has the best latency when it comes to entering or leaving interiors and triggering events ...etc.

Yea yea just switch public sessions like a schizo spammer, only this time it's way more frustrating than business battle event because in that case game is giving you notification about the type of the battle and if it's activated, but in the case of service carbine you don't even know when was activated or how long you will have to wait so you just have to fly to 10 locations over and over again in multiple sessions and you might not get it after hours of doing just that. I was lucky last night to get two of them fast and they were in the same location, first one i had to wait around hour or so, currently i need two more and i wasted more than 2 hours without any luck. Let's see if there are any people here who are worshiping R* design and decisions to tell me how this is fun and interesting activity.

If they wanted to just lock it behind event they could made it easier by at least limiting every part to different location so you wouldn't have multiple parts in the same crime scene or just maybe give us some phone contact that we can call to reveal the vicinity of crime scene or something along those lines. And small thing but at least kinda rewarding would be to receive IAA badge after those 6 IAA missions so  when we wear it we can just walk into the crime scene and pick a part without wanted level.

I guess I grew up in an era where you had to play video games and figure sh*t out for yourself.  So this idea that the dev has to tee it up and spoon feed info to the player base is foreign to me.

Well, the Service Carbine is eventually gonna be fully released. At which point, you will be able to buy it directly from Ammu-nation. Without having to resort to wait hours until you experience the Crime Scene event.

You just need to set you spawn location to last location and stand near a weapon part location and switch public sessions until you see a blue dot appears.

Indeed, but that chance is way slimmer with 10 possible locations, so one might waste whole night and get nada because of rng.

I mean, older games were far less complex and didn't have anywhere near as much to figure out.
But anyway - how do you suppose a player "figures out for themselves" that they have to wait for parts to spawn, or wait for the next part to spawn once collecting the previous?

Furthermore, I can't recall seeing any in-game notification about Crime Scenes being in the game now* - so the only way someone that only plays the game (doesn't go online and look at the Rockstar site or following YouTubers etc) would know is simply by finding that random even on the map, and then they would perhaps find themselves confused after traversing the entire map only to come up short.
As an aside, Rockstar's site doesn't mention jack about the timings of stuff either. * - I could be very wrong here.

If you are indeed an older player, it bemuses me that you'd excuse such a tactic from such a prolific company - I would guess you probably don't have as much time on your hands as a teenager does so the idea that you're somewhat content with the lack of any notification is suggestive you don't mind your time being wasted - but these days with technology being what it is and the game having so many hands on deck - at least historically - there isn't really any excuse.

By the way, it's interesting you don't mind this "figure sh*t out yourself" thing yet you created a topic on these very forums asking how to clear the game or system cache - presumably because you couldn't figure that out yourself or it's not documented anywhere. Not a critique, just an observation.

Anyway, I don't want this descending into the B&M #17 topic, I'll just leave it there.

the answer is very simple: they want you to play the game as long as possible. they don't care what you do in the game or how badly inconvenienced you are by the lack of official documentation, as long as they have (and can maintain) that playercount in their statistics to brag about to their investors.

most online games these days are like that. arbitrary timers, restrictions, and deliberate withholding of such that serve literally no purpose other than monetization and to keep the playercounts high.

Not sure that's working when many of us are saying "FTS" and are just going to wait until it's purchasable.
I don't doubt your reply and your logic though - hey at least that's better than Rockstar's (who clearly don't know "carbine" means short barrel when it comes to guns when the M16 has anything BUT a short barrel). 😛

Yeah, calling it the Service Rifle would have saved them a pretty silly flub (not that they care). I’m glad they didn’t make it carbine length though for sure, it looks just about perfect.

the mag for special carbine (and by extension the heavy rifle which reuses the model) has one of those windup wheels that airsoft gun mags do, so this doesn't even surprise me in the slightest

Pretty poor show if I'm honest.

The cooldowns for those random events were hardcoded prior to this update. They only added tunable variables for them after the latest update.

Those variables would have been necessary for a UI notification to function. A support article explaining the cooldowns would have sufficed. However, there was a similar instance with the Freemode Events support article where Rockstar listed out the exact duration of the cooldown between each Freemode Event. But after a certain DLC released, can't recall which one, the timer was changed and that bit in the article remained outdated. Eventually, Rockstar updated the article to simply remove that whole bit all together. So Rockstar may not explicitly say the exact duration, but instead go for the "Just wait at least half an hour" advice. But that raise the question of whether that would be as helpful as revealing the exact duration?

Yeah I used to love airsoft, not sure whether I "grew out of it" (there's plenty of old chaps that do it to be fair) or just got fed up of people constantly failing to take their hits - being an honesty sport and all. That was the one big difference versus paintball - obviously you couldn't say you didn't get shot with paintball because, well, it was obvious from the paint splatter.

Doesn't surprise me though about the magazines though. 😆 There are probably some airsoft guns that are easier to get ahold of in person and accurately model than reaching out to the manufacturers for the relevant drawings (or whatever), who may not even say yes to their firearm being used in the videogame anyway. I dunno, just speculating.

Interesting information Tez. Again that perhaps reinforces the idea that some elements of The Criminal Enterprises were thrown together or rushed.
I'm in no way against anybody providing such information, it's just better "from the horse's mouth" and when we're constantly being told about The Music Locker or the Good Sport bonus amongst others (because unlike in previous games, there's no system counting how many times a UI message is shown and to stop showing it after X number of times), it's just a little unfortunate that at least one of those top-left notifications is seemingly missing. Also goes hand-in-hand with there being no record of how many parts you've collected as "collectibles" within the Interaction Menu.

As you mentioned a support article would suffice, but a suggestion for "Next DLC" is for Rockstar to put cooldowns in the Interaction Menu. It doesn't need to be exhaustive, where every single thing that does have a cooldown is referenced with a long list to scroll through - but perhaps it could be dynamic so that if you've just sold some Special Cargo from a warehouse, that becomes listed... if you've just done a VIP Job, that gets listed (twice perhaps so players can see when they can next launch the same VIP job in addition to the other ones)... if you've just collected a Service Carbine part, that gets listed... the time remaining on the Lucky Wheel gets listed - etc, etc, etc.

I'm aware we can call some contacts to find out how long is remaining (eg Payphone Hits, Yohan Nightclub Goods missions etc) but having one central section within the Interaction Menu could be clutch. 👍

Probably in no way related, but kinda interesting we have two Formula cars on sale this week as Polyphony adds a new Formula car to Gran Turismo 7... go for the Benefactor BR8 though if you can. Anyway, this is from an old document I made a while ago that I've never published, and I'd have to get these figures checked, but here's a way to calculate downforce on the Formula cars in GTA Online. I added the values of the front and rear wings for all four of the Formula cars in the spoiler below.

Front Wing value + Rear Wing value
x Vehicle Downforce value

÷ 2 = overall downforce
Example:
Vehicle Downforce value divided by 2
multiplied by Front Wing value
+
Vehicle Downforce value divided by 2
multiplied by Rear Wing value
Example:
Benefactor BR8 with Medium Front Wing + Extreme Shark Fin Benefactor BR8 with Medium Front Wing + Extreme Shark Fin
1.10 + 1.25 = 2.35. Multiply by 5.25 = 12.3375
12.3375 divided by 2 = 6.16875
5.25 divided by 2 = 2.625 multiplied by 1.10 = 2.8875
5.25 divided by 2 = 2.625 multiplied by 1.25 = 3.28125
2.8875 + 3.28125 = 6.16875

Progen PR4 - vehicle's default downforce = 5.00

Spoiler

Image

Ocelot R88 - vehicle's default downforce = 4.75

Spoiler

Benefactor BR8 - vehicle's default downforce = 5.25

Spoiler

Declasse DR1 - vehicle's default downforce = 4.00 (only buy this car if you like it)

Thanks for the info. Lmao...i jump towards private session towards private session everytime i got a new part of the weapon. (I did it after like 4 or 5 hours...sometimes i think this game is a side job, lmao). The 4 parts didn't toke long, although it usually required from me a trip to the entire map to spawn some location. But the 5th part of the weapon, it toke me like 4 trips across the entire map, i was starting to believe something was bugged and i was almost ready to try a new session.

Idk what's happening with public lobbies...recently (and today i crashed a couple of times, trying to join a lobby before the game kicked me to SP...all i could read while i was in the clouds where the chat going: "you cheater, get rekt, naab, can't fight fairly, eh?", stuff like that and i was like: "ok...maybe i'm in the clouds because some hacker screw up this lobby. :sadkek:

I think that the weapon should not be full price if you got some parts, idk if they will actually do that. If the weapon full price is let's say 350k, if you got one piece then 325k, 2 pieces 300k, and so on.
