Comrade Monke
GTA 2 is very underrated. It set the foundation for GTA 3 to go full 3D. It used early 3D graphics. It was the first to feature a single established protagonist, it also was the first to feature the military and FBI and also introduced variety of NPCs like Street criminals and gang members. It was also the only one to feature different paths to completing the storyline, like you could choose to work for the Zaibatsu, you don't like their missions? Yakuza is also an option and there's also the loonies. Not to mention the missions were very entertaining, like turning people into hot dogs. You could also save your progress without completing the level unlike GTA 1. Not to mention the secrets like tokens or Elvis impersonators. Why don't people talk about this game more? Without it we wouldn't have GTA 3 or Vice City.

Without it we wouldn't have GTA 3 or Vice City. There are a number of reasons. First, people are just biased against old games. In the case of GTA, the fact that it's top-down makes it even worse for those people. They just don't give it a chance. It's also a bit inaccessible to modern players. You need physical maps to play through it. While these can be found cheaply in PS1 copies, that's an extra barrier for people. You can download and print out the maps, but quality may not be the best. In the same way, most people who play an older version of GTA III today don't bother finding a PS2, PC or XBOX copy to get its physical map. They instead rely only on the radar, which is much more difficult and not at all the intended experience. It's also not available on Steam or any other store that people might see it and try it out. Those are the main reasons I think. I agree that it's a really good game. omori and Comrade Monke

True, it is now available on an unofficial site that looks very similar (and as far as I'm aware there's no malware with it) but you still have to go looking for it. If it was on Steam people mightfind it by searching for GTA. Granted, it was on Steam until 2013 and didn't seem to be any more popular, so maybe it's mainly just bias against older games. Yeah I downloaded it from that site for free. I also downloaded GTA 1 but it doesn't work for some reason although I have GTA 1 on the playstation 1. On my old PC I had a really low frame rate and graphical glitches in 16-bit colour mode. If I switched to 32-bit colour mode I got a black screen. On my current PC I still have the problems in 16-bit mode (I've never seen a PC with an OS past Windows XP that doesn't actually) but 32-bit mode works fine. If you have problems when you start a new game, try hitting F11 and switching to 1024x768x32, and see if it works. Edited August 9 by jm-
