How Many of You Play Online Over The Story?

I've noticed recently, that there are a ton of people who buy GTA V and never touch the story, and only play for the online aspect. Although I personally, cannot sympathise with such a mentality, I am however aware that there is an entire generation now raised around GTA V, instead of GTA IV, or SA/VC. Thoughts on this? I've heard that the online missions and campaigns are actually a lot better than the stories, but I don't pay for PS+ so I have zero experience in that topic.

The Tracker

Back in the early days I always played the Online mode more, because it always made me feel as more of an actual criminal than the campaign ever did. If I wanted to steal cars and sell them, I could, If I wanted to get actual money (For the time) from robbing stores, I could, If I wanted to do different kinds of jobs from different contacts over and over again, I could, and we better don't talk about plenty of features like being able to put bounties on other player's heads, being able to send people to steal from them or even the abbility to send mercenaries to kill them. Say what you want about GTA Online, but I think it always offered a way more complete experience than single player in terms of GTA content. Nowadays I don't play it anymore because it became in what it is in my humble opinion, an unbalanced grindy mess with a toxic community, but when it comes to actually giving you a reason to play, the multiplayer mode serves it purpose more than the offline mode does IMO.

If only it stayed in the same direction it had back in 2013-2015, it could at least be bearable.

Imma have to agree with my boy The Tracker. When GTA Online came out I absolutely loved it because it was more like how imagined a GTA should be like than GTA V Story Mode was.

It all started to go downhill when Rockstar stopped updating the Story Mode with every new DLC in 2015 and started adding unrealistic concepts and overpowered weapons/vehicles. That's when GTA Online died to me. It all turned into a giant mess of grinding the same heist/mission while struggling to even buying anything with your money because everything turned so damn expensive. You do one giant ass heist and it's enough for 1 super car. Wow, thanks a lot.

Nowadays I play singleplayer almost exclusively and only tune into Online when a new update is released, just to go back to singleplayer after 30 minutes of boredom.

I have 1000+ hours on GTA Online but I still have more hours on the singleplayer across all my different save files and having played it on PS3/360 generation. Despite what many people would say, I still think GTA V singleplayer is alot of fun and a memorable experience just as much as the older GTAs, its just an open world recipe that Rockstar nailed and I can have fun in it no matter if it was GTA 3 on the PS2 or GTA V

Online has become far too toxic for pc. That admin cheat program really does a number, can't even report them, because the reports goes directly to the cheater instead of cockstar. And it doesn't look like it will ever be fixed.

Much like everyone else, I have mainly played Story Mode since around 2015/2016. When GTA Online was first released and the original heists came out, it was like a childhood dream come true, GTA as we know and love except with our friends. Races, contact missions, heists, all of it was great. Then slowly Rockstar seen how much money it was making them and has been milking it dry ever since.

Story Mode is great, honestly think I prefer GTA IV, but V is still fantastic and I seem to enjoy it more each time I play through it. I try and change up the way I play the game each time by taking different strategies, wearing different clothes, taking different routes etc. It just helps me get immersed in the game and see it from a different POV each time.
