Say what you will about r* but their single player stuff is top notch and really polished, and that stuff carries right over into online. Your character animations, how they traverse land, stairs, water, slopes, you know that stuff is what makes the game age so slowly. A lot of mmos and RPGs don't have that kind of polish, and I'm very looking forward whatever improvements the foundation of the next game will have that makes the next online that more immersive. Maybe our characters will have a voice or more comprehensive customization. Maybe all cars will have custom interior options or wheel dimensions.

Flip side, I'm also afraid how they'll ruin it with predatory monetization tricks.

That's basically the GTAO secret sauce, isn't it? Rather than just making an MMO-like online game set in a GTA-style open world, you make a full-on Rockstar single-player game, with every possible expense thrown at it, and then use that as an incredibly robust foundation for the open-ended online mode. And that's the core appeal of RDO, too - even though that game never had the same long-term commitment from Rockstar, and also inherited Gunrunning-era GTAO design flaws into its core experience, it's still an open-ended, 'create your character and do whatever you feel like' mode layered on top of ...RDR2. Even without a single update, you can see how that'd be fun in and of itself.

As for monetisation for the next game, I think that's where GTA+ comes in (particularly after they tried things like a mobile-style premium currency and a Fortnite-style 'season pass' system with RDO) - probably because any GTA+ bonuses apply to/scale with any in-game earnings, unlike Shark Cards (which need payouts to stay low, in order to frustrate people into buying them). The big concerns I have are with them either carving off really good stuff and locking it behind GTA+, or keeping Shark Cards and having GTA+, which is taking the piss, IMO (you don't need both, Rockstar!). But I definitely think they've introduced GTA+ now as a way of fine-tuning the balance with an eye to GTA VI.

Grottomacy

Ballad of gay tony route. Have a character created npc that manages our properties in online. Maybe wire transfer our passive incomes and excess money and he/she keeps the rest so we can explore the new area, because we are basically retired at the end of gta online. It doesn't always have to have a bad end.
