Alright, so we all know that the upcoming gta 6 is in development blah blah blah... are we gonna talk about an ending to our character in gta 5? I mean obviously our character is earning big in LS, I think they'll have the title of "The legend of LS", what if, there's a final mission to do after completing all of the missions (story-wise even if the timeline is quite intriguing...) so here's what I imagine:

  • We either get shot lmao and these a scene of our grave scene
  • We complete the mission after earning it big and being succesful credits roll  completing gta online!
sorry if all of this doesnt make sense but this is how I imagine it (too much immagination haha)
  • Conspiracy! 1

Here's a better one, you lose everything you've build because of Georgina Cheng (Lester's "girlfriend") because she wants to exact revenge on Lester for killing her father in storymode (she is deceiving Lester by making him believe she is romantically interested in him) you are there for Lester because he helped you get the big bucks and is an OG but you all get burned and have to abandon ship meaning leaving LS onto a new city and start anew, Georgina doesn't kill you but destroys everything you had so is like the King in exile, and that's how you bring your character to a new city and start fresh resetting everything.

I think people still will play V Online when VI is released. Anyways it are two seperate games and it would be unfair for new players if you could convert your progress from V to VI. At some point there will just be no new updates for V Online while some people will still play it for years until the servers will be shut down just as it happened with GTAO on XBox360.

Oh yeah, it would've been or might be a cool idea if they manage to do it

If GTAO2 is a continuation of GTAO then I expect if we can import our characters we will come with the clothes on our backs, one car of our choice and few million.

There is no chance they'll get so successful with gta VI online. Couple years in it'll meet same fate as RDO. And what do you know, chances are og gtao might still be going strong.

Although I personally think GTA Online 2 will be a brand-new experience, no money or asset transfers (maybe some rewards and extras for playing the old GTAO), I don't think R* will just shut down the first GTAO as soon as GTA VI releases, you'll probably still be able to play it. So I don't really think there's gonna be any death scenes or anything lol.

Well I'm sure most players are eager to see their character dying just to play Rooftop Rumble, Pacific Standard, Hunting Pack, etc... In another city with new characters.

Only Fortnite has the backend infrastructure to pull off an event like that. Take-Two is going to keep the hamster wheels spinning until they've milked every last cent from those poor blokes unable to afford a new console. And when that day inevitably comes, the PS5 servers will go out just like the PS3 ones did. Nothing more than a sh*tty alert screen sending you back to Trevor rubbing one out.

I believe it will never end. Rockstar considers GTA Online to be its own entity. 8 years worth of content and hundreds of thousands of concurrents players 24/7, they aren't going to give up on that.

Risk another failure like RDO? Dripfeed the same reskinned content over the next decade? Hmm.

In current gen it's now marketed as a separate game.

Pretty much this, yeah.

I don't expect any interoperability between the two games, because there's just no way that Rockstar limits things like vehicle model quality or character customisation (stuff like body types, facial presets, etc.), just so people can carry over stuff from a decade-old game. It'll be a fresh start: not just so everyone's starting on a level playing field, but also because ...again, Rockstar isn't going to shackle GTA VI and 'NuOnline' to decade-old tech and assets. Put another way, I expect things in GTA VI to look comfortably better than Cyberpunk 2077, not worse.

But at the same time, agreed that they'll just leave current GTAO running for years - perhaps well into the next console generation, similar to how OG GTAO might have stopped getting updates in 2015, but kept chugging away in place (complete with hackers galore... 😬), until it finally got turned off last December. I'm not sure how long they'll keep it alive, but at the very least, I'd say the end likely won't be until we're well into the PS6/Xbox God-Knows-What-It'll-Be-Called-This-Time era (so maybe sometime around 2030, lol).

I think online is going to become a multi-city universe.  I think we keep our same characters.  I think they will have separate bank accounts in each city, that way if you want to play in the new city you will in effect start from scratch.  This is just my guess.  It will be interesting to see what way they go.

There is no such thing as GTA V Online.  Its just GTA Online.  I do not think it would be unfair to new players as many will obviously buy sharkcards AND rockstar will likely offer starter packs to get going.  Regardless,  Vice city will still be new to the LS character as we still have to buy businesses,  do missions,  etc to get established AND the city itself will be limited to all in the beginning until a DLC drops with new stuff.

The only thing they will shut down is support for the older consoles.  Online itself is here to stay and the E&E upgrade made that clear.  Them shutting down Los Santos makes no sense at all especially when R* has already expressed interest in Online eventually being a hub for all the maps.

How will there be a GTA Online 2 when they didnt call it GTA Online 1 or give any indication that Online is only the "first" version?  They named it GTA Online for a reason.  Its ONE entity that will eventually entail all future GTAs.  R*'s own words...

"Experience GTA Online,  a dynamic and ever-evolving online universe"

"every-evolving" clearly means updating the current online not make a new one and "universe" describes Online as more than just one city.  We obviously wont be able to bring our millions,  rank,  vehicles,  etc from Los Santos to Vice City but I do believe our characters will be able to visit Vice City with limited assets.  Maybe they can seperate progress and assets by the map you join idk but theyre definately not shutting down LS.

The maps are seperate so why would R* need to limit vehicle quality,  character customization,  etc in Vice City?  If we're talking both cities on the same map then I guess but I think each map will load with its own settings.

Okay, but if the character models look different, the vehicles in VI are potentially completely new, and nothing carries over other than an XP bonus or something, then there's basically no reason to transfer characters - it'd be no different to just creating a new character, starting over, and maybe getting some bonuses if you've got current GTAO save data on your Social Club account (which is what I expect will happen).

And there's absolutely not going to be the abiltity to go back and forth between games - again, if nothing is carried over, and they're functionally different characters (that you've just customised to look similar), then there's no need for the connection. And all it'd mean would be Rockstar having to maintain current GTAO more than I imagine they'd like - instead, I reckon they'll just want to hit the ground running with GTA VI Online updates, instead of diverting anything to an older game (same reason why they're wrapping up RDO updates).

It was just my thought on how it would look, the very reason this topic started, gta online right now is gta 5 online, nothing changes that, yes they might refer it to gta online singularly, but it's the gta 5 version of it, we all know it. Gta 6 is gonna release with online prob, how would they manage to upgrade it? The future is unknown but the present is what we know

Most criminals get busted by the IRS. I wouldn't mind seeing something like that for our characters. Our properties and vehicles repossessed, our bank accounts frozen. We get some calls from our business partners with different reactions to the news while doing a few wrap up missions like getting a fake ID.

Would be cool if it ends with us taking Lamar's Emperor to LSIA and hopping on board Adios Airlines and leaving the city, similarly to how we arrived. Only instead of people playing tennis and stuff we see cutscenes of different online stuff throughout the years. A Chrome Adder with Money Rims leaving LSC. Bikes speeding away from the Pacific Standard. A Gruppe Sechs van pulling up to the Casino. A Sparrow leaving the Kosatka. Then a broomstick approaches our plane only to be blown up by a Lazer.

I hope they will allow us to play GTAO anyway even if one day they'll decide to stop the support even on next gen. After all time and effort spent would be a shame to lose everything because server closure... If it's a peer to peer shouldn't be a problem.

I can't imagine R* closing GTAO definitely. Perhaps stop with weekly events yes.

They will. The next gta0 will be pretty bare bones at launch, maybe even more grounded. It'll still see a lot of players until gta6 starts rolling out serious updates.

This has to be the most faultiest logic I have ever seen. Companies usually don't call their first product with a "1" and yet sequels after sequels are made eventually using numbers to differentiate the later titles from the former ones. For example GTA1 isn't called "Grand Theft Auto 1" on the box, it's simply "Grand Theft Auto" and yet here we are some odd 20+ years later with a Grand Theft Auto V (5) out and eventually a VI (6) in the future.

And don't you dare be as dense as to think there will not eventually be a GTAO2 considering the popularity and financial success of the current one.

Oh, sure - same as I don't expect them to shut down RDO any time soon, despite them admitting they're winding down updates. After all, the original version stayed online and (technically!) playable until last December - so that's an 8-year lifespan, the back 6 of which were after updates/support ended.

And yeah, I can see a scenario where they do like RDO, and just have event weeks as the 'new content' of sorts, for the benefit of people who don't jump over to 'GTAO 2' straight away, or who play both games concurrently. Playground Games does this with Forza Horizon: FH5 is the current game, and gets new stuff every month, while new cars and features stopped for FH4 last July, but they've kept the weekly events running on what's basically an automated timer.

I actually reckon that, after RDO launched with barely any stuff, and something like 8 missions compared to the 80+ contact missions GTAO launched with, they'll want to have a more robust experience at launch, and hit the ground running with updates as soon as possible after the immediate 'beta'/soft-launch period.

To that end, that's probably a contributing factor as to why RDO updates stopped, and why I expect current GTAO updates to dry up about a year or so before GTA VI: that way, they can move development over to GTA VI's Online ASAP, so that they can settle into a steady 'four updates a year, drip-feed to bridge the gap' release schedule, like GTAO had before RDR2.

Yup, lol - by that logic, Vice City and San Andreas are basically spin-offs rather than fully-fledged entries in the series, because Rockstar didn't name them "GTA IV: Vice City" or "GTA V: San Andreas"... :p

And besides, I think that the lack of numbered entries for GTAO is kinda the point: even if the games are almost certainly going to be entirely unconnected in terms of gameplay, progress, etc., by simply calling all incarnations "GTA Online", it suggests that the new game is just picking up the baton from the current game, with the expectation that if you want more/new GTAO content, you'll buy the new game.

Oh, sure - I think they'll possibly bake the placeholders for those things into GTA VI from the get-go (similar to how stuff specifically for Heists, like the interior to Pac Standard, was in V single-player), but we're not getting businesses straight away. That'll probably be more like RDO, where you get the base experience to familiarise players with what's what, and then that all comes with subsequent updates. Although also like RDO, I'd expect that stuff to arrive pretty soon, similar to how the Frontier Pursuits roles were the first major update.

As for Benny's-style shops, I think they'll just be the new standard for customisation - we even had a bit of that with current GTAO, where near-Benny's levels of customisation have been pretty standard for vehicles since roughly 2017. In other words, if GTA V had been released a few years later (2015), aiming for Xbone/PS4 instead of 360/PS3, I'd imagine that LSC customisation would have been on a par with Benny's automatically (and we'd have had gangs using working lowriders, instead of just things like slammed Peyotes and Buccaneers without working suspension).

...that said, while I reckon that car modification will be more advanced across the board (rather than added post-launch, years later), I still see them including themed custom shops, perhaps with specific kinds of upgrades. That's sorta the case with the various business workshops and Benny's, but I'm thinking possibly more like how GTA San Andreas had the likes of Loco Low Co. and Wheel Arch Angels.

The big question mark for me will be "how much will military-grade or weaponised stuff feature into NuGTAO at launch?", because I've got no clue. Recent updates make me a tad more optimistic, but we've still had weaponised vehicles here and there - and even at launch, one could argue that letting people buy Rhinos and Buzzards were the thin end of the wedge. That's something that Rockstar really needs to handle carefully, IMO, because it's a real Pandora's box: something like the Hydra (where it's a personal Lazer you can summon nearly anywhere) is a hard thing to dial back once you've put it into the game.
