In the future cars will stop themselves when they detect pedestrians, will be difficult to steal (already you can't just "hotwire" them without special tools), they will be electronically limited to the speed limit etc. So they will have to make the GTA's take place in the past or pretend those things don't apply for the protagonist.

It would make a whole lot more sense if Ray was seen in the Edinburgh offices, NYC offices are the HQ but as far as I am aware no game production actually occurs there, those offices handle businesses and marketing/PR.

Bryan Zampella is not the protagonist. Their voices are different

Modern day, we saw from the leaks, also the protagonist had something called "what's up" or something like that reference to whatsapp

Yeah, Bryan was fired right before my eyes. Sam Houser came out of his secret panic room, called him a feckless c*nt, threatened to murder his dog, you know, the maggot who had a funeral last summer, and just fired him. Yeah, just like that. Pretty cold, innit? Then Dan Houser jumped out of the shadows and immediately started recording Jason's lines using a Sony Walkman. Everything was quiet after that. Nobody said anything. Not even me. Swear to Kraff

They do mocap and write the story in New York. Not Edinburgh.

That scene where there's two NPCs talking (where Jay Norris' death is brought up), the voice we can hear is not actually Jason's, but the guy's who's laying on that sun bed. 

 

Thought I'd bring this up 'cause I heard people saying it's him.

They already made fun of Saints Row in GTA IV. They had Stillwater Ave and Squidrow...

Maybe they will clown on them, but I imagine they'll do it the same way they made fun of the Driver games in SA. You'll encounter an NPC playing a video game that's heavily implied to be the SR reboot and they'll rant on about how the game sucks. Perhaps there will be an in-game radio advert that lampoons the game just like the Righteous Slaughter adverts in V.

Doesn't matter if the game is set in the past or the present, having both would be stupid and unnecessary.

 

What I do love is how when it wasn't clear when the game is set, people that wanted a modern setting were all for having both. Prologue or main story in the past, epilogue in the present. Now that we have a modern setting, people that wanted a past setting are being ridiculed for wanting both by the people that got what they wanted
