Why are people complaining about R* scaling the game down?

The first trailer for RDR2 showed Arthur in New Austin, and they even recorded lines for him in NA, but just because they removed that part didn't make the game bad, did it?

It's all about the part where they'll update the game and map as time goes on, à la Fortnite.

This usually means shipping a game with much less content, sometimes even unfinished, then add stuff as time goes on. Since Rockstar can't into supporting singleplayer games as soon as they struck gold with GTAO, it's a very bad sign. Doesn't help that the publisher/Rockstar's heads expect the game to ship around 2024/5 (don't remember the date mentioned in the article soz) while devs themselves don't expect it to be ready by then.

Rockstar employees described a workplace culture full of drinking, brawling and excursions to strip clubs.

Why they say this like It's a bad thing, this workplace sounds fun as f*ck.

GTA V's Los Santos was created for PS3/Xbox360, hardware from 2005/2006, and it is actually a great map. It's just that the NPCs and AI in general didn't help it feel alive anough.

Honestly, if GTA VI's map is the same/similar size as GTA V's map, but created for current-gen (2020) hardware.... it could be the best GTA map so far. Full of interiors, a living & breathing world, smart AI with daily routines, more random events, unique places to explore, and so on.

I'm not saying I'd prefer the map to be same/similar size as GTA V's map, I'd prefer it a bit more if it was noticeably bigger. However, even if the map size remains similar to GTA V's, it will still probably feel miles better than GTA V's Los Santos.

A map the size of V's would be fine if it was actually filled. V's map is actually massive but feels empty because 2/3s of it is empty.

I imagine all R* titles (hell, all games in general) have been scaled down in some form or other during development lol. It's natural actually. When you start coming up with concepts, you want to go as big and ambitious as possible but when production starts to ramp up you realize some things just can't be done or have to be limited. There's a reason early concepts/ideas are never released to the public.

Regardless of everyone's opinion including mine on various subjects through the pages such as map size, dlc, protagonists, i'm just glad the ball is rolling again and we are here with our first bits of GTA VI news and some solid activity.

I hope the "new" Rockstar will be as good as the "old" one was for hyping games pre-release, i am sure it is everyone's favorite thing to do the pre-release mapping, screenshot analysis and more, really want some screens/videos soon.

I like the hype before the release more than the game itself.🙂

Yeah lol Rockstar would definitely be pissed about stuff like this

Imagine they delay the announcement every time some rando goes out and leaks (real or fake)

Rockstar and all subjects of articles are notified first and offered an opportunity to comment a period before publishing.

What do we now think the release day could be?

I'm thinking 2023 is off the charts, and now we're looking at a late 2024 release pushing into spring 2025. But, I feel there wouldn't be any delays if it was to be for 2025

And there isn't much depth to the world either. It's all surface level - if you can't shoot it or drive it, you pretty much can't interact with it.

Personally, I feel like the article was purposely worded to get people riled up. It's probably not going to be as drastic as it's being made to seem. Just bloomberg wanting clicks.

Anyone else hope the story - tonally - is as serious as the RDR series?

I really want a serious crime drama, which we know they can do.

Yeah, and this time around there's going to be more interiors + better game mechanics to interact with the world. So even if the map isn't record breaking to start out with, it'll still feel like a big world to explore.

Honestly, if you look at recent GTAO contents like The Contract or Cayo Perico or Short Trips, I don't see too much change at all.

Do we? The writers and directors we know and love all left, and if GTAO's writing is anything to go by, it's looking as grim as Bioware's future

All of Blaine County in GTAV is just filler to me which surves absolutely no purpose from a gameplay perspective.

I really hope GTA VI's map design is a thousand times better than V's and that it indeed has many many unique interiors and interactivity all over the games' map.

RDR2 gives me hope it will have but V was such a mess in that regard that I'm still skeptical until I play it.

I want that as well ... I'm so sick of GTAV's story and characters you can't even imagine ...

I'm perfectly fine with this, too (though I'm really not liking the expanding map thing, but we see how it goes). Have a city the size of LS, or even smaller, with an assload of detailed interiors would still be amazing imo.

I personally believe the female protagonist leak, but not the unfinished map growing with updates one.

V should be thrown away completely as a frame of reference here, imo. We're talking about a game that was made for a 15-year old technology, for Christ's sake!

Was so close to posting a picture of Bonnie and Clyde a week or so ago. I honestly dunno if I did or not I’m just finding it weird that is now a potential theme or something.

I really hope that's not the case. The 3D era characters were, in many ways, archetypes and nods to character tropes of famous crime movies. But still often felt real and relatable. I don't think we should expect high art, but I'd honestly just settle for a decent story with characters who felt human. I go back to GTA3 all the time, and it's not because of nostaglaia, but because of how well designed the world feels, and how authentic the story is - and that game is a million times simpler than anything Rockstar's made in about 15 years.

Michelle/Karen as protag, she had enough of UL Paper and is taking things into her own hands, calling in help from old acquaintances, who are less than happy to be helping, each of which are playable in their respective missions as Karen does the behind the scenes work

This thing writes itself...
