Oh yeah I'm sure you'd like to be abused constantly by your boss to work overtime all the time especially if you had a family.

That's irrelevant, what's relevant is that games the size of a GTA can only be done with crunch, its scale and ambitions are products of crunch culture.

You're delusional. I'd rather have a game that takes longer to finish development by motivated employees than people being tired and forced to work to get something out by a very tight deadline. That's not how anything should work and you should get used to this as people finally start to organise to protest against these sh*tty practices.

I have no idea how that would work if we are talking about actual story mode content here??? This screams like a bad bad bad idea to me if Rockstar really plans doing that.

It screams paid DLCs. Hey it's been the trend for a couple of years. You get a half finished game and you can pay to get the rest of it over time. RDR 2 was a full game, what you paid for is what you got. Why can't GTA VI be the same?

so she is indeed our female protagonist? the "Rockstar Games (Video Game)" got deleted !

Video Game

Principal Character

Take 2 Productions

It's still there...

Removing R* doesn't make a big difference, I'd assume. The editing in "Rockstar Games (Video Game)" is awkward anyway.

The one thing that bugs me from the employee statements is the same thing that bugged me when Dan Houser said the same thing in as many words - quote: "Besides, several Rockstar employees pointed out that you can't really satirize today's America — it's already a satire of itself."

Bullsh*t! That just makes you a weak-ass satirist! Although to be perfectly frank, it's also because ...GTA never really did actual satire - GTA just did parody of most things, but without any of the dual-meaning or bite of true satire. So if your "satire" is just 'do an over-the-top version of a real-world thing, and laugh at it', and we live in somewhat more exaggerated times already, then yeah, you'll probably struggle to top reality.

...but again, that's because 'exaggerate things for giggles' isn't satire - satire is harder-hitting, and has a point to make, and so you can absolutely satirise most things. In the '60s, Tom Lehrer satirised everything from worries about nuclear annihilation, to Vietnam - and heck, while America was formally at peace with Nazi Germany, Charlie Chaplin was ahead of the curve in satirising Hitler, in The Great Dictator. And it's not like satire's fizzled out since then - Jojo Rabbit hardly pulls any punches!

If anything, the more extreme the times, the bigger and more obvious targets you have to satirise! It boggles my mind that, back around the time of GTA Vice City, we had perfectly decent satirical takes on the War on Terror, of all things - "things are more extreme now than they were then" is so demonstrably incorrect, that it just makes you sound like you've either got the memory of a goldfish, or you're literally 10 years old... :rol:

Yes but this evolving map and added story missions over time is sounding like we end up with an unfinished release and it's like split into episodes alà Life is Strange or similar series. If I'm honest I really don't like that idea simply because I don't know how it would be handled and I think it hurts the main story of the game A LOT. I don't want half of the main game only as a digital release post-release, I want EVERYTHING on the physical version of the game.

This (even tho I don't agree R* has  ever poked fun at *everyone* like people think)

Rockstar's satire is still in the GTA Online updates, they just don't take the sh*tty, easy and actually offensive way of poking direct fun at who people are for their ethnicity, sexuality or gender identity.

Exactly. I don't literally mean "everyone" so much as the idea that no one is safe from their brand of humor. Sort of like how South Park handles things, though I suppose South Park probably HAS gone after everyone at this point lol. But definitely I believe they can still satirize the current world without resorting to the most remedial, easy jokes possible. I think (and hope) they are capable of that, and I think it's possible that their humor can adapt and grow/mature over time without losing its biting edge.

Holy sh*t, some news! No wonder 200+ people are here!

I'm glad to hear that Rockstar's been working to make their working conditions more enjoyable and less life-ruining, sure it means that we'll likely need to have a decently long wait between games, but it's not like that's anything new for us.

I think doing a Bonnie & Clyde dynamic for a GTA game has it's merits, seeing as I can't really think of an open world GTA styled game that has really, fully gone with that dynamic. Sure, you have the Catalina missions in SA, but those are such a small part of the game that they don't really get to develop it at all. I think it'll be interesting to see Rockstar's take on that idea, given the full treatment of having it be a central component to the story. Plus, if they're planning on bringing back the multiple protagonists idea, just limiting it to 2 this time, I think it'd work out a bit better than last time.

As for the whole "easing up on the satire" thing, I don't think this will be too big of an issue. It's not like ALL the dark satire is going to be sucked out of the game, otherwise it wouldn't be a GTA game! :p

From what it sounds like to me, Rockstar is just holding back on doing satire that would be seen as having poor taste, stuff like transphobic jokes & stuff like that. I think that's perfectly acceptable, I believe that Rockstar could make their formula work without needing to go all in on the offensive humor.

Christ, I can't keep up with all these replies! I dread the day I'll be reading this forum when we ACTUALLY get a trailer!

A lot of men like to play as female characters as well. Given the choice, I most often pick a female lead if I have the option, and I'm a straight, middle aged guy if that matters at all. I just like the different perspective a female protag can offer, I don't always want to play as a character just like me. I won't judge you for not wanting to play as a female character, that's your choice obviously, but I feel like it should be less about their gender and more about whether they are well written or not. Some of the best video game characters in history have been female.

That´s a good argument. Let´s say the female is a well written badass char and the male is the opposite, maybe i would choose the female char. But you know what i mean. I just do not want to hear a female voice while playing. But i would love to see the choice of both.

I don't know if it's just me, but a female protagonist screams a story more focused around stealing cars and such, instead of being focused around drugs and bank robberies, so it would be a true GTA game.

The thing that I really hope the next game has is more immersion. Let us interact with more stuff in the environment. Like sitting on benches or going to coffee shops and stuff like that. Make it feel closer to a sim while still retaining the original feel. This is one of the things I'm worried about being dumbed down actually, because iirc people complained that RDR2 was too immersive.

Also, if the male and female characters is true, then I really hope there's tons of customisation for both of them. One thing I really liked is how different clothes looked different for each of the 3 MC's in GTAV. Like the suits for example, completely different vibe between Michael and Franklin.

And I hope they bring back the ability to change the way the body looks like how you can do it in SA. Like if you eat you get fatter and if you go to the gym or jog a lot you get more muscular. They missed an opportunity to make the outdoor exercise area in Vespucci Beach interactable.

So Rockstar Games makes bad games now because they don't offend people as often anymore?

If a developer is "forced" to work overtime then chances are the passion that makes these games great is already lost. Good leadership and good morale should be able to motivate employees to crunch in those last few tough months and they should be compensated for that work. And when it comes to who's delusional keep in mind that if there is no overtime then you don't have to pay for overtime either, that might be great for corporations.

Also: if a game takes "longer" to finish you usally get Duke Nukem Forevers and not GTA 5s because technology and design ages and it ages rather fast.

Immigrant protagonist always fit better in the gta world and everything seems more satirical thats why i loved niko more than anybody else . Also hopefully the game goes full gore like rdr2 , being less goofy and more voilent would make the story far better . We will still get hilarious ads and billboards so i ain't worried about them  being less satirical but hopefully they don't give us campaign that shove's sh*t down our throats . Rdr2 is a great example and wouldn't mind a gta set in that kind of world were things are more serious and not every npc is made to be ran over by your car .

I honestly would wait for the official from rockstar before coming to a quick conclusion, I don't care if it's Jason Schereirer or the genie from Aladdin or the oracle fish from Dragon Ball :cringekek:
