Pre-Production and Production.

Games can be in pre-production for years. The Elder Scrolls VI has been "in development" since 2018 by Bethesda but not actually "in production"

What Schreier says is not contradictory. He means that the game has been in pre-production since 2014 and was early in production in 2020, which is completely in line.

He said it's in some sort of dev since 2014, which actually lines up with what people in-the-know here said about the game before he even talked about it back in 2020, which he also talked down to in his stupid tweets at the time.

 

My knowledge of game dev is not the best, but I know those stages, he, on the other hand, appears to be inconsistent with the usage of the terms, which was the original issue with his 2020 postings.

I actually drift off a bit into the RPG elements.

Since RDO I've been treating my characters as if I was writing a script for a movie. They'll have good and bad traits, their very own personality. And they'll get a story, with highs and lows. Like a TV series.

I already have lots of ideas for GTAO2, some where I'll genuinely go "My god, I really like this character and I can't wait to create him/her".

No. Absolutly no. In no way. And lets say GTA 6 would have only a female Char, i would most probably not play it. I do not want to hear a female voice, it would break the immersion for me. If others can do it, good for them.

I think Jason himself said this was fake, probably due to the fact that the leak says it's set in the 80s while it'll actually be modern times.

So I'm still unsure how to feel about all of this.

 

Best and most promising part (as far as emotional story is concerned) -> influenced by Bonnie and Clyde

Weird and worrysome part -> the evolving map, so that they plan to release more cities and missions, etc. over time -> I have no idea how that would work if we are talking about actual story mode content here??? This screams like a bad bad bad idea to me if Rockstar really plans doing that.

Well, lucky for you the report talks about a man and a woman character. You can play as a guy if it's true.

I do believe most of the info in this article is true, and it pretty much lines up entirely with what we either already knew, or have been speculating for years now. So do I think it's accurate? Absolutely. 

 

BUT, do I think it's accurate just because it happens to be from a well known leaker and journalist? Heck no. People on here seem to be putting this guy up on a pedestal just because he's been in the industry a long time and claims to "have contacts" in the industry (which is something no one really knows for certain, as those contacts and sources will always be anonymous, for obvious reasons such as NDAs.) I've seen people bring up the fact that he's been right in the past too, but that isn't a hard and fast reason to believe a person will be right in the future. People like him are bound to be right on occasion, but also wrong as well. Anyone could make a solid argument for OR against his credibility, and both sides would theoretically be right. All I'm saying is people really need to start thinking critically for themselves and stop propping up others as some sort of "all seeing & all knowing god". 

 

Again, everything here seems to be pointing to those details being correct, and frankly I hope they are because it sounds exactly like what I was hoping we would get out of the game, I'm simply warning people against idolizing specific leakers or journalists as if they have some magical bond with Rockstar itself. At the end of the day, everything but a legitimate confirmation from Rockstar itself is just speculation. And because I feel like some people on here who seem to be huge fans of this guy will probably take what I'm saying the wrong way, it's nothing personal, it's not even about Jason Schier (sp?) specifically. This applies to any and all situations, not just GTA VI. 

 

Now that I probably offended the Schier fanboys and girls - which is not my intention, but I know how the internet is - Everything in the article sounds like exactly what I was hoping we would get. A true return to Vice City for the first time in almost 2 decades, the possibility of an ever-expanding map that adds more cities over time, the South Florida setting in general (which for those that don't know, is geographically much larger than a lot of people realize). I feel like I remember reading somewhere years ago that someone within Rockstar said the three protag idea for GTA V was a lot more trouble than they anticipated and that they most likely wouldn't do it again, but switching between 2 characters would likely be exponentially easier to develop for. I'm genuinely excited to finally see a female protag or co-protag in the game, and the Bonnie and Clyde angle sounds great. I think people that are saying stuff like, "how original" are taking that detail too literally. I would imagine the character(s) might take inspiration from Bonnie and Clyde, but I hardly think Rockstar would straight up copy them, it's just the easiest way to quickly describe that type of character relation to people unfamiliar with the new protags. 

 

When I read the part about steering away from punching down at certain groups, I could already tell that would rub people the wrong way, but I think a lot of people are reading way too much into that detail. I hardly think Rockstar's signature sarcasm and satire will be stripped away, I just believe it will be more intelligently applied considering current social norms. What I mean is basically, there's no reason to assume Rockstar can't still poke fun at anyone and everyone, they just won't be taking the easy road by using their most basic characteristics such as ethnicity as a punching bag. I see no negative there because I have total faith that the devs are intelligent enough to be able to still craft satirical comedy without literally mocking a person's identity. 

 

One last note, I think people need to quit claiming another person "hates women" for merely saying they are concerned or worried about anything in the article, and again, I'm saying that as someone that very excited to see a female protag finally, and also as someone that completely disagrees with the vast majority of the concerns those people are bringing up. But that's the point, people need to stop making assumptions about others so much. They are entitled to their opinions even if you disagree with them, and their concerns are valid, again even if you disagree. If they literally are complaining about a female protag "killing the franchise" or something, then yeah, that's fair game for ridicule I'd say. But if someone says, "I don't know, this article has me a little worried about how the game will come out", the response shouldn't be, "oh, so you hate women!" Seriously people, critical thinking. Please.

Ideally, I would be fine with a less satire/more mature GTA game as long as it is in the same vein as GTA IV. The 2020's was a grim time for everyone, and it should be properly reflected in this game - just as GTA IV was trying to capture the post 9/11 era of New York. And Rockstar seem to be masters at mature or sad stories when they get to do them.

 

As long as they poke fun at everyone as they always have, I'm fine with this game.

This (even tho I don't agree R* has  ever poked fun at *everyone* like people think)

 

Rockstar's satire is still in the GTA Online updates, they just don't take the sh*tty, easy and actually offensive way of poking direct fun at who people are for their ethnicity, sexuality or gender identity.

I mean how would they add story mode content after release ... I mean the story clearly must have a start and ending point at release or????

So my question is: how will they add stuff to the story mode which doesn't let the main release-product feel unfinished????

Again only one city?????? Oh man, what a bummer ... but at least it looks like we have more interiors this time (which isn't hard to do seeing that GTAV only had a handful).

A lot of men like to play as female characters as well. Given the choice, I most often pick a female lead if I have the option, and I'm a straight, middle aged guy if that matters at all. I just like the different perspective a female protag can offer, I don't always want to play as a character just like me. I won't judge you for not wanting to play as a female character, that's your choice obviously, but I feel like it should be less about their gender and more about whether they are well written or not. Some of the best video game characters in history have been female.
