Good lad lol.

Now we're talking, either RDR3 or a new franchise, but they better finish the Redemption trilogy first, one last Red Dead game.

RDR3 will be a modern day game based on Yellowstone and you play as Kevin Costner

Yellowstone - Season 1 - Internet Movie Firearms Database - Guns in Movies, TV and Video Games

Wouldn't say no to that at all. Just trying to figure out how that could technically..

- Instanced Worlds? (Vice City and surrounding, future update adding more cities to "fly" to)

- One big map?

- A mix of both?

With instanced worlds, popularity might jump back and forth. With one big map, technical hurdles.

Not a dev at all so I'm not sure if there are tricks to "one big map". Whatever they decide I'm sure it'll work out but still, if they really go the live-service way then the next GTA will surely be a 10-20 years project.

For all that I personally care, a great SP experience with thousands of world events, interactions and cinematic story a la RDR 2 and I'm settled. But yeah, the biggest money long term is in online.

I remember when the rumour came out that 'Rockstar would be adding cities/content to the GTAVI map overtime' was around the same time(ish) that the 'Cayo Perico Heist' was added to GTAO - and there was speculation that R* was testing the technicalites around adding things to a map overtime. Granted you couldn't just fly to Cayo Perico (I don't think so at least), they can still make it work without seperate loading pages.

The original plan for Online was to add maps from future GTA games as they were released.

Of course, a decade later we have yet to see this play out.......

As long as he is from the Epsilon Program and can travel back and forth in time.

Lol. R* definitely had been on the Peyote Plants when they dreamed that up...!

Looking at GTA 6's footage we can notice a lot of fine details being used already such as RDR2's shadow solution which they are crisper near the asset and more difused away from it, but it may also be using Ray Tracing shadows like GTA 5's latest version.

GTAV E&E already uses SGA-PBR rendering pipeline. Same as RDR2, but with Ray-Tracing.

This gives us an insight into VI as well. The ray-tracing was more built for VI and ported to V.

Or Leslie on some massive hopium thinking they could pull off this hyper ambitious thing with a trillion cities, most likely at the expense of employee working conditions :sadkek:

I believe Cayo Perico was the testing of the system they will use. Rockstars been doing things in steps and increments with online. Plus, why else would they have an entire drop down menu just to visit the party when in every other similar situation it's just a black confirmation screen.

I think it was a situation of them talking too far into the future to be relevant at the time. Like Microsoft and "the Cloud" in 2013(?).

Picture this. The super fast loading times of the new SSD's (like with the Series X/S), the games are all digital now, each new title will be accessible through the GTA MAIN MENU. From there you can tab through the different singler player titles (V, VI, etc) or you can load into GTA: Online. Pick which owned map to load into, or once loaded visit a different map via the airport like how we visit the Cayo Perico party.

GTA: Online forever 100 years GTA online....

And I mean, if World of Warcraft was able to do something similar decades ago I don't see why Rockstar couldn't do it today.

Ok I just read what I missed in the topic, why did this turn into GTA VII city speculation :kekw: I'm sure there's something out there already given we know VI is VC.

We've had games in the following years that have entire planets in them, so I would call that a realistic goal.

Yeah, but they are nowhere near the same level detail of per square metric as Rockstar games are. Most of them heavily rely on procedural generation. Like No Man's Sky and Elite: Dangerous.

The crew is largely procedural to creation wise

It's honestly not surprising that we have seen hilly terrain in the GTA VI leaks despite the game taking place in Florida. I don't believe in the theory that the map goes all the way to Georgia. I think it's just that Rockstar decided to take some liberties and make the terrain hilly in some areas to make the map more varied so that we don't just see flat terrain everywhere and it also lets players do some off-road stunts. Because if we are being honest, none of the GTA maps accurately represent the general geographical features of their real life counterparts. For example in GTA V, Route 68 (Route 66 in real life) separates Los Santos County and Blaine County, unlike in real life where the road literally goes through Los Angeles and stops at Santa Monica. Another example is with Sandy Shores and the Alamo Sea, which are clearly based on Bombay Beach and the Salton Sea; in the game, they are both directly north of Los Santos, but in real life, they are Southeast of Los Angeles. Last one is Mount Chiliad. Mount Chiliad is based on Mount Diablo, which is just east of San Francisco across the bay and very far northwest of Los Angeles, this doesn't make sense because in the game, it's only a couple miles directly north of Los Santos. Also in real life, there is a giant valley separating Los Angeles and San Francisco. In the game instead, there are a bunch of mountain chains with a small desert and a lake in the middle.

They could use a mix of both, for example handcraft most of the urban areas like usual, and pad the landmass a bit with procedurally generated countryside/nature or suburbs (that's then converted back to static map) to make the map feel very big without making as much use of tricks like winding highways to lenghten them as much as possible with the least amount of map surface.

Without procedural generation it is impossible to make maps at a planetary level.

The map need to be consistent, there is no sense some parts being heavily detailed and others being generic af. Procedural generation in games is very hard if you want to do something good.

Oh, I got nothing against it. And understand its usefulness. I'm just pointing out that it's not something Rockstar does. They make handcrafted maps.

Do you think we will be getting the original trailer they intended to show us, or did they go like "damn our big VC reveal is ruined this trailer is moot now" and had to create a differently edited one?

I wonder if you perceive GTA3 the same way I perceive old DOS games: they're so primitive and old I can only play the ones I know from my childhood for nostalgia.

They'll show the best one they have and these leaks won't affect anything. They likely have multiple ready trailers and are deciding which one they like the most.

Rockstar like to use their first trailers to showcase the world, that's where you get your first surprise.

This time, I think they might still show us the world, but in the current build of the game, kinda like saying: "Yeah you know it's Vice City, but let us show you how it actually looks", essentially disproving the stupid comments about the game's visuals being finalized and also giving us a look at the size of the city itself.

Or they might focus on the outskirts and the surrounding regions, which we haven't seen much of.
