After GTA VI they should try to use a brand new city. There are so many cities in the US they could use like Chicago, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Houston, Detroit, Seattle, Phoenix, Boston, Denver, New Orleans, Washington D.C etc...

You know, it would be very cool if they could put all these cities you just named in the same big map and they could bring back old cities too while they're at it.

They could even call the game something like GTA USA or Americas.

Yeah, plus some of the cities I have listed are in interesting geographical areas. Denver is right next to a mountain chain. Seattle is in a bay surrounded by pine forests and mountains. Washington D.C and Philadelphia are close to each other and New York City. Chicago borders one of the great lakes. Detroit is bordering Canada etc... And some of these cities are huge metropolitan areas with famous monuments.

Games take more time now, but it also depends how much they milk GTA Online :kekw:

I don't see them making RDR3, simply because online was a flop and they abandoned it. I see them going with 2 smaller projects next. While I'm not interested whatsoever, I agree that Bully 2 is likely. The other? No idea but I would hope for a Manhunt remake (maybe followed by a REAL sequel). The first game was amazing. Manhunt 2 on the other hand was terrible.

I think the safest bet is Red Dead 3. Or a new IP, which is much less likely. Of all R*'s existing IPs, I think L.A. Noire has the highest chance to get a sequel/reboot (and Bully to a lesser extent). Zero chance for Manhunt or Midnight Club.

I'm not sure how much you believe him, but Zelnick stated just last November that GTA, RDR, and NBA would continue to be T2's primary IPs for a long time.

Quote

Asked if Take-Two’s core franchises have a limited shelf life or if they can keep going forever, Zelnick said that if a franchise is “really, really great it will keep going”. Using the long-standing James Bond series as an example, Zelnick called its latest film – No Time To Die – “great”, and said that “you would like every franchise to be James Bond“.

Zelnick then compared the film franchise to several of Take-Two’s titles:

“There are precious few entertainment franchises of any sort that fall into that category, but they do exist. And I think GTA is one of them, I think Red Dead is one of them, NBA is obviously one of them because the game [of basketball] will continue to exist.”

I genuinely don't think R* will make another smaller scaled game ever again, especially when they can take their time using online to bridge the gaps between flagship releases.

RDR3 is pretty much a given if you ask me - why would they just abandon a franchise thats been so well recieved over the years? RDR2 is the best game they've ever made if you ask me - cant see them not following it up with another instalment.

I don't see another red dead game for a long time. Just like with GTA it has been 9+ years.

I think they will pick something else after GTA VI.

The Crew. Obviously in a much smaller scale and not detailed and it's a racing game.

Well I'd love to see more European cities actually, although yes I know GTA is more about America's culture and satire.

Really loved the different gameplay with each map in Midnight Club 2, Paris and Tokyo.

It was my one gripe about Midnight Club: Los Angeles, there was only one city. Sure, it had a huge map. But I enjoyed the variety in locations the first three Midnight Club games had. If the series is ever revived, I hope it returns to multiple cities.

However, Midnight Club: Los Angeles excelled at customization and interiors. It was revolutionary at the time. An arcade racer receiving the same amount of attention to detail as a sim racer (e.g., Gran Turismo, Forza)? Insane.

I still find myself shocked today when I play Midnight Club: Los Angeles. Like, that game came out in 2008?  It was really ahead of its time.

I'd love for Rockstar to make a new IP (it has been a long time coming), but at the same time, I need a new Midnight Club game. It's been a 15 year wait... The chances of it ever happening are nil, though.

How much longer, though? It has already been about 4 years since RDR2 came out. Even if RDR3 is their next game after VI; it still wouldn't come out before 2029-'30, so a 12 year gap between sequels, pretty much in line with GTAV and VI.

was wild I don't think they can do something like this today, it was too difficult and unrealistic but fits with the graphics at the time just look at it how it is.

I wouldn't mind a game like this today. I'd keep the old graphics too, sort of.

Haven't played the other ones

I have been looking around South Florida on Google Maps. There is a speedway and a military base in Homestead, just south of Miami. (about a 45 min drive in real life). There is also a naval air base right next to Key West.

I believe this GTA is the final and ultimate GTA that will get huge DLCs over time with brand new cities added to the map to keep it fresh at all times. That's why they implement so many f*cking details from the start.

And I think the goal with this is to create a map that's the size of a continent or country. Hence the original project name ''Americas''.

The DLCs will either continue the story of Jason and Lucia expanding to other cities in whatever business they'll be a part of or it'll be new characters with a new story but everything is tied or linked to Jason or Lucia like a relative maybe or a friend or business partner. Kinda like how GTA IV did with The Ballad of Gay Tony and Lost and Damned.

Boston (the old historic part), Detroit (the suburban area), Chicago (i guess It was more fascinating during 1930/1940)

I had read a lot of posts about locations for a new GTA game, and I found curious that no one thinks about Texas as an option.

I think Texas would be a great new location for Grand Theft Auto VII. Houston and El Paso, I like the ring of it. Coastal plains to desert.

Ahh, I don't know, I'd want that thing. That magic. You see it in the movies. I want to retire from what I am doing you know? That line of work. Be a good guy for once. So I'll buy a big house, put my feet up and hope I'd be a dad like all the other dads, but well, you know how it'll go.

That would take a lot to load and run. If they do multiple cities it's going to be maps that we load to.

I think this decade will be the last decade of long development times. As I mentioned before, AI is going to play a major role in development beyond 2030.

Have an AI generate all kinds of stuff, then humans can go in and do all the details. This can go for artwork, modeling, mapmaking, voice acting, script writing, and I'm sure almost everything else.

Games will not only get larger, we will also see them developed faster. We will see concepts that no one can imagine, as well as full remakes of old games generated at a rapid pace, since an AI could just look at the source and get to work. Then the devs can touch it up and release.

The future is going to be weird as hell.

the 20th of October will be exactly years after the first trailer for RDR2 dropped, I know R* don't really drop trailers on Thursday's but it would be a cool reference. Anyways we've only got about 4 more weeks to go and then we might get our first proper look at VI :0

You can't read that without narrating with Michael's voice.

They can go all ultra american corporation on us and call it 'GTA Evolution'. Basically make this the world that they just add to and expand over time. I don't think they expected GTAO to be as big as it was - so didn't build the V world expecting it to still be so popular almost 10 years after it launched. So much more effort is going into VI to 'future-proof' it and make the world more expansive to keep peoples interest and to play it for longer. I mean, I literally know the GTAV map like the back of my hand - moreso than the actual city I've lived in for 18 years lol.

Wouldn't say no to that at all. Just trying to figure out how that could technically..

- Instanced Worlds? (Vice City and surrounding, future update adding more cities to "fly" to)

- One big map?

- A mix of both?

With instanced worlds, popularity might jump back and forth. With one big map, technical hurdles.

Not a dev at all so I'm not sure if there are tricks to "one big map". Whatever they decide I'm sure it'll work out but still, if they really go the live-service way then the next GTA will surely be a 10-20 years project.

For all that I personally care, a great SP experience with thousands of world events, interactions and cinematic story a la RDR 2 and I'm settled. But yeah, the biggest money long term is in online.

Red Dead 1 and 2 actually sold over 68m units combined. Pretty amazing results I'd say. I'm confident that GTA and RDR will stay as R*'s primary IPs for a long time.

That's awesome and great to see. I guess my numbers were a little off...

Actually, the guy who wrote and directed L.A. Noire, Brendan McNamara, is still working with Rockstar on their VR projects (VR Case Files and the upcoming SA VR). Video Games Deluxe is their new studio. I'd guess some ex Team Bondi members are also involved there.

And, L.A. Noire is the only PS3/360 era Rockstar game that has a native port on PS4/XOne, apart from GTAV. I guess it not being a RAGE game has something to do with that, but it's noteworthy nonetheless. Of all their existing IPs, only L.A. Noire's tone and direction fit modern R* imo (Bully too, to a lesser extent).

That's cool that McNamara is still with Rockstar. I always liked L.A. Noire, and I would be ecstatic to see something fresh done with the IP. Unfortunately, I just don't really see that happening. L.A. Noire always, at least to me, came across as the least popular and discussed Rockstar Game produced in the period of 2008-present.

Hey, atleast there's a chance of RDR3 between GTA 6 and GTA 7

Now we're talking, either RDR3 or a new franchise, but they better finish the Redemption trilogy first, one last Red Dead game.
