Climbing system in V was so sh*t, I hope VI completely rewamps it, and improves on the IV system, as stated above.

 

In V, the protagonist would face dive everytime you try to jump to another platform, holy sh*t that was bad. Did they not test this or what?

Maybe it was just for testing purposes but I hope we're able to realistically conceal rifles and shotguns in clothing like long coats and such. 

 

 

That’s a good idea - they could work it into the game by giving you the option to carry a rifle openly but risk getting a star, while choosing the right clothing or jacket will allow you to keep it concealed, like Kyle Reese in the original Terminator.

Been back lurking in here for the last few weeks. Can't stand thinking about these games when they're too far away, but discovered Strange Man's YT-channel recently and was reminded of this site. Plus, 'tis the season! That moment on Sunday when I was catching up on this thread and noticed the frequenzy of new pages reaching hyper-speed thirty pages ahead of where I was at the time... Absolute chills. Too bad it was all because of a criminal act.

I think things like the player characters models are more in line with how RDR2 looks, same with the lighting with the soft shadows and semi-realtime global illumination. It seems they were originally using the PS4/Xbox One gen as their render target and the appearance of the finished or mostly finished new assets reflects that. However, they are also using a lot of assets from GTA V as placeholders in the meantime. So it creates kind of an interesting phenomenon where it sort of looks like both games at once, and also sort of looks like a PS4/PS3 game at once. It's still, of course, the basis on which things will improve. Especially since one of the biggest things that distinguish PS4 and PS5 era games is the quality and complexity of shaders, which is something that's going to see the most work done late in development.

I only know "beta" as basically "unfinished". If you're asking that, yes of course I know it's unfinished.

As far as the distinction between "pre-alpha" and "beta", the line can be kind of arbitrary but beta generally means that the thing is mostly finished and just needs some ironing out and tweaking (which can still take a really long time, because that's where attention to detail and polish really shines). From my limited understanding, pre-alpha (or just alpha, I feel like the line here is really arbitrary) in particular is where you get into the prototyping stage of features, testing them out and seeing what sticks, which seems to be what's going on in the test footage, which was presumably recorded by a dev demonstrating those prototyped features.

 

The thing that's most relevant to the subject of this thread is that Rockstar's gamedev MO involves blocking out the game map very early in development, because it informs everything else, including the scope of the story. The map nonetheless sees many changes later in development, ranging from visual tweaks to the placement of buildings and even whole towns to suit evolving gameplay and performance needs. This means that we can expect a lot of things to be different in the final product from what we've seen in the leaked footage, but the overall big-picture layout and scope of the map should remain fairly consistent from this point onward.

I personally like it, but a lot of the cool details that gave "depth" to GTA IV have been removed in GTA V, the physics have significantly been dumbed down, and the stories of GTA IV and V (again, in my opinion) cannot even be compared. IV's story is miles better for me because it was more serious and dark (V's story is good too, better than most videogame stories today, but not as good by GTA standards if it makes sense).

But the main thing why the majority of people (those who don't look into all the details and everything) dislike GTA V is probably because of GTA Online and the fact that the game's been milked to death by now.

I don't understand the hate for GTA V's story, yes, it's worse than its predecessors, but its certainly not "ass", especially when you compare it to other games.

You did the majority of the heists for the FIB and didn't get paid. Majority of the game you felt like a government contractor not a criminal.

No sh*t the earliest versions of IV wouldn't have looked like just another updated Renderware game. The game wasn't even built on Renderware. If anything, it'd have looked like Rockstar's Table Tennis back in 2006-'07, which was the test mule for RAGE.

 

V looked like an enhanced version of IV in early production-

 

RDR2 looked like this once in early production, probably during 2013-'14, much worse than previous RAGE games-

 

Now VI is clearly being built on modern RAGE, so of course it'd share similarities with both V and RDR2 at this point of production. In many ways, it looks closer to RDR2 than V. I don't know how you're getting to the conclusion that they aren't overhauling anything when the footage shows very clearly that they are doing exactly that.
