Salaries vary wildly depending on the location of the studio and the position and contract of the developer in question. A QA tester or an art/animation guy in Rockstar India won't even see anything close to the $30k/yr mark. Even in a UK/US studio, most of the grunt work is done by developers with significantly lower salaries than the leads.

Anyone remembers speculations about the Veep writer Roger Drew from few months back? Well, he is now credited as Senior Creative Writer in Rockstar London with another writer, alongside Humphries as Senior Vice President of Narrative. Seems like London studio has a huge role in writing and story these days.

Good evening to all, do you think that the fact that R* reveals the credits of GTA V and GTA Online means that it finally turns the page to move on to other things in terms of communication like an announcement on GTA VI?

Could be, could not be, hard to tell - GTAO is certainly still gonna get updates e.g. this Winter. But for them to be doing it now could mean we're going through the last handful of GTA Online DLC's and it could mean they're getting things out of the way, readying to pack their bags and bring on a VI announcement.

 

I do think there's a lot of smoke up in the air, and where there's smoke, there's usually fire.  Unless I'm unfortunately wrong and it's just a smoke bomb.

I got your back homie, I feel the same way. 

 

I'll also acknowledge that I've seen some improvement in car handling and physics with quite a few of the new cars R* have been adding to Online since the Cayo Perico DLC. Like I'm actually starting to see some more body roll than what you'd typically see on some of the other GTA V cars.

I agree, in part. The physics were superior, just not the responsiveness.

I just don't get why some people are coming to the conclusion that GTAO is coming to an end just because R* finally updated the credits page. Do you seriously think they released the current-gen ports of V this year just for sh*ts and giggles? VI is still at least a couple of years away, if not more. And until it comes out, GTAO will keep on receiving at least one big update per year.

 

The more likely scenario is that R* discontinues last-gen GTAO support in 2023 and begins to cross-promote VI in current-gen GTAO.

Common "credits roll" mindset. Happens on every digital entertainment medium. The names roll, and people think it's over.

So if I follow your point of view, this is not the "end" of GTAO and an announcement/trailer of GTA VI will come in 2023? R* put out a tweet in February 2022 announcing that the game was in active development. R* is not in the habit of talking about a project and going radio silent for more than a year. An announcement/trailer will come soon, I'm sure.

VI's announcement has little to no bearing on GTAO updates. R* announced RDR2 literally 12 days after the Bikers DLC came out. They could announce it next month (which is likely, imo) or take 12 more months.

 

In fact, the VI announcement buzz will bring both new and returning players back to GTAV/O. As I said, R* will cross-promote VI in GTAO, like they did with the Double Action Revolver, and the Stone Hatchet challenge for RDR2.

It's not coming to an end NOW, no, but I do think there's only a handful (or less) of DLC's remaining. The "E&E" release was made so that build with engine improvements can become the permanent build for the future even when they stop supporting it.

 

I also think last-gen GTAO might be discontinued this Winter.

 

That said they can announce GTA VI regardless of that. I can't say the credits finally being updated after YEARS isn't a sign of "something" though. I think many people who think GTAO is here to stay and transition into GTA VI seamlessly are gonna get a "rude" awakening too

Yeah, I'd say GTAO will receive 2 or 3 more large-scale updates before VI finally comes out.

I can see them adding a revamped Los Santos in VI, maybe 5 years later, but definitely not the other way around.

Yeah, kinda lol. But seriously speaking: there’s certainly a reason about this credit update. GTA Online isn’t clearly going to be shut down in a few months or so, but I think it is approaching its ending phase. By now, with Rockstar acknowledging twice the development of GTA VI, I think we can be more than confident that the announcement is near. Everything is pointing towards that and Rockstar has been spreading more and more clues everyday. Again, there’s certainly a reason why they deliberately chose to speak about the next game at the beginning of this year and no, it was not damage control. I think we’re really close tbh.

They're in GTA VI full production atm so it's normal they open up a crap ton of positions to help out, this happened for GTA V too. Not to mention the pandemic led many companies to start hiring a lot more and announce projects a lot earlier for talent attraction reasons.

AAA games industry pay is not what people think it is, especially QA, which should be paid a lot damn more considering the work they do (and sometimes even crunch) towards making the games better and something release-able. This is industry-wide.
