GTA 6 Speculation & Discussion [Part 7] - The one with the announcement

It's way too early to say "this could be the leak", but honestly, reading that 4chan leak (this one) is... interesting.

 

For all we know there could be an RDR2 reddit like out there, something legit that we looked over or dismissed and reading that 4chan leak again makes me wonder if that's the one. The protagonist and how they look, that early, is very subject to change so that part doesn't mean much to me though talking about Florida and Cuba in 2016 is potentially interesting.

 

It's the latter part that caught my eye though, the talk of the game being more serious, like RDR2, with less satire. Now post-RDR2 I've thought GTA would become a bit more serious due to how well it worked for them with RDR2 but talking about that in 2016? It'd never have crossed my mind personally.

 

Who knows if it's real, it may prove not to be but if there is another RDR2 reddit leak out there floating about that could be a contender.

 

Edit: The leak has been confirmed fake, just incase anyone misses the post confirming it.

The Leslie Jones bit kind of threw me off but then I did notice it was from 2016 and who knows, could have been an earlier iteration of the protagonists - Franklin looked nothing like the final guy in 2011's GTA V trailer. It is interesting, among all the other ""leaks"", that I do agree with...

 

Especially the talk about RDR2 being more grounded, all the way in 2016.

Weren't there transcripts of emails between Leslie and the other Rockstar guys in his lawsuit?  I'm shocked there wasn't any GTAVI talk in those.

Well, I do believe there is a limit of what can be shown in lawsuit filings that become public. I think stuff that is still under NDA, classified or confidential can't magically be published by a court, I'm sure there's many more emails we haven't seen.

Always liked this one. What worries me though is the comments regarding internal disagreements of online support. Since 2016 they have only doubled down with online for GTA. So if said leak is legitimate that does not bode well for the game we are about to see. And then you’ve got a lot of departures from senior staff that have happened since 2016. It’s interesting for sure. But yeah comments about a male and female then as well as a more serious less parodying tone back in 2016. It makes you wonder if it could be the real thing.

While I agree that the situation is vastly different today, I still don't think it's gonna skyrocket. (Unless retail investors push it for the lolz, idk market's pretty irrational nowadays) 

Retail cannot push a $21b marketcap company. Institutional money largely dictates direction and what key levels hold. But it'll be interesting to see!

If that leak is true, I wonder if the conflict about what direction to take the game in is what lead to Dan's departure, all speculation so pointless to even think about it but I do wonder. Lol 

 

If they have any sense story mode should be main focus imo. 

 

If GTAVI is more grounded like rdr2 and the Everglades has the same atmosphere as the swamps in rdr2 I'm more than happy. Lol

I just played some Mafia II and holy f*ck I forgot how immersive that game is. Lights switches, water running, food from the fridge, car hoods and trunks, food in bars, diners and more. A goddamn shoe stand.

 

Hope we'll get that in VI aswell.

I mean it's not out of the ordinary for these big studios to have disagreements on the direction of something in pre-production, especially such behemoth projects like this. We've heard of stuff like this for even RDR2, I don't think it was necessarily any catalyst for e.g. Dan's departure. Plus RDR2 came out just fine...

 

It's clear that R* didn't want to do much with Red Dead Online for example, and you can see it now that it's in the backburner potentially forever, only Story Mode was their true passion project, so that part was pretty much true in that "leak" - that they wanted to minimise Online for RDR2. Although GTAO is big, it doesn't mean at all that they won't still do what they love the most: great, big and innovative Story Modes. But now that GTAO is big, there surely will be some of focus on that of course, but R* are also much bigger now so they can likely juggle it all better than they did for GTA V.

 

I'm really not worried about any of these things, it remains to be seen, or we'll be back to blind fearmongering again like after the Jason article even though IMO a kinder, gentler R* is exactly what they needed lol.

I just watched Modest Pelican play that game and was shook at the amount of detail as well. Looking forward to playing it whenever I can.

I strongly agree with what Jason said before. This 4chan leak is the one that seems to be the most real. Although I still have my doubts.

That 4chan leak is real, I have no doubts about it. It is from November 2016! and only recently we had Schreiers report which basically confirms this stuff. I never bought Miami and its surroundings 'only' as the map of GTA VI to begin with ... always thought there has to be another city, landmass for GTA VI to make it really big and ambitious and also to make this two-character story work.

Yep, GTA VI needs to be as immersive as possible. RDR 2 was a good starting point, I want that level of immersion in a modern urban enviroment

Sadly, this one was faked last year. The 4chan comments were edited to make them look legit.

Same guy who made that fake map leak went and edited real 4chan comments. So when we looked up the comment numbers on archive websites, we found the comments, but they said entirely different things. Some people are just wired differently.
