I just don't think they will be totally comfortable releasing their hallmark game to a limited console base. GTA IV was different because it was a time when 25m copies sold was huge to them, their biggest success. Now we live in a different reality where their two latest games will before long top 200m in sales combined. I think it's a miscalculation on your part to assume they will willingly release it to a limited console base as they did for IV when sales expectations where almost almost tenfold lower.

 

Who knows. Hopefully prices drop soon (not likely given recent news) and there is a boom of next gen sales now we are past Covid.

Well, they're not releasing the game right now, are they? It is at least a couple of years away, and by then, there should be more than 70-80m current-gen consoles in the market, even if those keep on selling at their current pace, which realistically should increase considerably with time.

 

Rest assured, VI has practically zero chance of being cross-gen. The further you go into a generation, the chances of a game being cross-gen decrease significantly, especially for a flagship game like GTA, which will be updated for years to come.

Numbers wise, RDR2 sold 23m units in the first couple of months when the console userbase was about 125-130m. So, that game had a 17-18% attach rate in the launch quarter. Now, VI will absolutely have a higher attach rate than RDR2 simply by virtue of it being a GTA game, probably in the 25-30% range, if not more. So I can easily see it outdoing RDR2's numbers even with 40-50m fewer consoles on the market. It could even outdo V's numbers as well, since GTA is a much stronger brand now than it was back in 2013. Also, the standard edition of the game will cost $10 more than V and RDR2 at launch.

 

All in all, I don't think console numbers will affect Rockstar's decision at all. I'm willing to bet money that the game will be current gen exclusive. I'd be very, very surprised if it wasn't.

We'd probably end up with the same fiasco as was GTAV this way.

Basically, content. Models, map, the textures, particles, scripts, audio files. Could even be scraps of code. Sort of like the building blocks used to make the final product which is the game

I just read the Jason article again about Frat Boy culture. Although some of what he says is probably factual I advise everyone to read it carefully and consider the shady language he uses in his articles. He is trying to create controversy. Just one example.

The second point is Jason’s interpretation of the situation is completely fabricated, it’s manipulated to make a situation seem worse than it is. The employee said literally nothing to suggest Rockstar are now a kind, gentle company. Just that they run it more like a business now.

 

The entire article is like this. Jason using romantic language to make a situation something it is not. It’s bad and has creative a lot of unnecessary controversy surrounding Rockstar becoming “woke” which of course is nonsense.

Come on. Firing higher-ups who engaged in bullying and/or abuse, more flexibility in the workplace and improvements to the company culture are definitely a sign that Rockstar is now a kinder and gentler company. That is a fair and logical conclusion to make, I don't see any sign of Schreier manufacturing a controversy in this regard.

No mate. They are just being professional for once. That doesn’t mean kind and gentle. There is no company on earth with 2000 employees that you could accurately describe as “gentle”.
