It's because it was getting way too crowded, it's almost unusable on mobile. I can add that one back I guess but originally it was meant to be temp too.

Rockstar will aim to build VI to last this decade. Just looking at it from an online perspective, it makes zero sense to gimp the core of the game that they'll build upon in the future. GTAO runs horribly on last-gen consoles. VI's online modes will make those machines go ka-boom. Also, software sales have dropped significantly on last gen consoles, and it'll keep on going down very fast with time.

 

All in all, there's virtually zero chance of VI being a cross-gen title. Remember that when the IV was released, approximately 40m consoles were sold in the market. That didn't stop Rockstar from releasing that game only on those machines.

I just don't think they will be totally comfortable releasing their hallmark game to a limited console base. GTA IV was different because it was a time when 25m copies sold was huge to them, their biggest success. Now we live in a different reality where their two latest games will before long top 200m in sales combined. I think it's a miscalculation on your part to assume they will willingly release it to a limited console base as they did for IV when sales expectations where almost almost tenfold lower.

 

Who knows. Hopefully prices drop soon (not likely given recent news) and there is a boom of next gen sales now we are past Covid.

I still find it kinda funny that R* had to confirm this game was being made through Twitter. Or at least, that's where I first ended up seeing it. Noticed it was also a text post on the Newswire later. Truly a far cry from doing the old logo tease + trailer announcement. Felt more their style.

Well the Newswire/Twitter thing was more an acknowledgement, we still don't know anything about the next game so the big reveal will likely be the old style.

Since the announcement came after the poor reception of the DE, coupled with the criticism Rockstar and Take-Two had been getting for their actions against the modding community over the past few years, as well as releasing GTA V three different times in less than a decade (four if you separate the 8th Gen and PC versions), the nonchalant confirmation of VI's development reeks of damage control for disgruntled fans and investors/shareholders, IMO. I think their usual "formal" announcement + teaser trailer would have still happened this Fall regardless, but I imagine they wanted to calm down some of the more vocally unhappy people in the fanbase in the meantime.

This was probably talked about before, but here is a patent from 2017 . Take a look at this quote

"Improving neighborhoods" by populating it, renovating, and replacing objects. Perhaps this patent can also be used as a hint for multiple eras in GTA6? With the modern texture tagged as "high-end" or "futuristic??"

Not multiple eras necessarily, but if they use such technology in VI, it sounds more like the world (surfaces, building appearance, etc.) will change as time passes, and as you play.
