Nobody really knows for sure. But @deepthroatgta4 was well known for... posting questionable rumours about GTA before reveal. Make of it what you will.

Any big budget AAA title slated for late 2024 will not be cross-gen, unless it's a sports game or something else in that vein.

Rockstar will aim to build VI to last this decade. Just looking at it from an online perspective, it makes zero sense to gimp the core of the game that they'll build upon in the future. GTAO runs horribly on last-gen consoles. VI's online modes will make those machines go ka-boom. Also, software sales have dropped significantly on last gen consoles, and it'll keep on going down very fast with time.

 

All in all, there's virtually zero chance of VI being a cross-gen title. Remember that when the IV was released, approximately 40m consoles were sold in the market. That didn't stop Rockstar from releasing that game only on those machines.

It's not Like Rockstar didn't announce GTA V right before Saints Row The Third released, and then released GTA V right after Saints Row IV released

Although, tbf, that was moreso just happy timing on Rockstars part. But still.

The next GTA after GTA VI will be a reboot and just be GTA. Because by the time it happes, WWIII or an asteroid will have reset us back to the stone age, so everything will be rebooted by then
