I don't think R* are gonna bother with Hollywood anymore, pretty sure this has been implied even by themselves multiple times. Recent games have had less and less big celebrities, they're just sh*t to work with many times.

It also allows them to find hidden talented actors. You can get amazing performances at a discount.

I know what and who they are.

I'm saying that Dr Dre is a bigger celebrity and more well known than Ryan Gosling .

And this argument about not working with big Hollywood names because they're hard to work with, is essentially thrown out the window with the Dre collaboration.

for gta online we can see crossovers with big named celebrities because it brings players to the game but for singleplayer no one cares about big named celebrities.

Also famous people can't shut up if they worked on gta 6 , remember snopp dogg saying dr dre is gonna be in GTA .

Again. Dr Dre is a musician and the Housers and Rockstar came from the music world too of course he's going to be easier to work with because they both have a mutual understanding of how the music world works. A big time actor? No.

Again. I know who they are. Very well .

Dr Dre is a bigger celebrity than Ryan Gosling. The fact he's from the music industry means nothing. Music industry people can also be notoriously hard to work with.

I'm also not saying I think Ryan Gosling will have anything to do with GTA6. I just think it would work.

Best to not bother with it.

I'm obviously talking about main story mode characters and/or protagonists, not GTA Online one-offs, very different indeed.

I'm going to call Dr Dre and tell him he was a "one-off"

Eminem might get upset about that comment as well .

Rockstar worked with tons of celebrities as radio hosts, DJs, comedians, etc. over the course of years, even when they stopped hiring Hollywood actors for lead roles.

Them working with Dr. Dre was not really a surprise. It was GTAO's Phil Collins moment. Now, if someone like Dre was cast as the protagonist of VI or any major new Rockstar game, that would be surprising as hell. :prismkek:

They're also two very different industries. While the modern triple A game might have a similar budget to a blockbuster movie, in films 90% of the crew is only used during a short 3-6 month period during filming, and then the editors and director, etc. do the rest. So it's not too wild to pay a high amount to the stars. Whereas game development lasts for years and years with a huge chunk of the crew/team being used for that full timespan, and sometimes in order to mitigate crunch or to reach goals, more developers and crew members are brought in. In a team of just 100 developers, paying them the average annual game dev salary across multiple years will cost 10s of millions. So it's a bit unfeasible to do it in modern AAA games. It was more doable back in the early 2000s because a AAA game could be developed for like 1/20th the cost and 1/5th the time a modern AAA game takes.

Another point is Hollywood stars charge those hefty millions for a few months of work, normally below 6 months, whereas in a R* game, to act out all the voice lines and the motion cap for the storyline, cutscenes, plus all the other random sh*t, it would take a few years and they would charge way way more.

Also, another reason why Hollywood can go with big stars but AAA game studios can't is because a huge chunk of a movies crew is prop artists, makeup, extras, lighting, special fx, sfx, stuntmen etc, and on average, their salary is a lot less than the salary of a gamedev or something similar. Add to that the difference in time taken and it makes sense.

Plus there's all the other reasons people here mentioned.

That's not what he meant. Acting out the few bits of motion cap and voice lines required for the DLC update probably took him maybe a week or two. Compare that to how many voice lines and how much motion cap Michael's or Arthur's actors required, it took years. Getting a big star for a few weeks or a month or twos worth of work to record lines for a radio show or a few cutscenes is a lot easier than getting them to sit around for years in motion cap suits recording all sorts of random voice lines and motions. Walking, running, jogging, jumping, climbing up a ledge, falling off of something, every single voice line used to talk to NPCs or characters, the cutscenes, it's way way more work. It's even more work than the average movie, as mentioned ^ . Getting a star like Dre for a one-off appearance on GTAO is way easier than getting someone of that calibre to act out a fully-fledged player-controllable role for years

The first circle depicts GTA VI map, second circle represents GTA VII map and third circle shows GTA VIII map, right?

Speaking of Phil…

I wonder if Rockstar will put a Genesis song in GTA 6? Fitting title of the song by the way considering there’s “No Reply at All” 😄

I mean, that's a terrible logo for a new entry, there was just no way.

It’s still a logo. And they purposely showed it during the beginning of the video. They were clearly messing with us.

Also, another Phil shoutout… 70’s Phil hit different. I gotta respect the beard and when he had a full head of hair :kekw:

I wonder how much weed was at this concert? I know those are smoke machines though but actually in the crowd people probably were smoking joints

Whatever Rockstar paid Roger Clark wasn't enough.

That's just cruel, the man spent 5 years of his life working almost non stop to give life to RDR2, just think about the huge amount of dialogue people are still finding to this very day almost 4 years later.
