It's not 100% sure if it takes 2 years or not. Developers doesn't know since new features are being added or removed - I think only the leads/directors would know that. I still think we will get a trailer in October with a release date for 2023 then delayed until 2024 + considering the number of employees has increased the game should be released until Fall 2024.

Both got delayed after announcement + the world, peoples attention span and rockstar as a company changed since gta5 announcement

Yes. We will get a trailer in this October/November and a planned release for Spring 2024.

...I explained in another post m8.

tl;dr; the US and UK speak the same language but out cultures are very different, and GTA is heavily designed from a world, lore and gameplay perspective around the US. GTA UK would play very differently and as a result it would not feel like GTA.

I saw your explanation but I don’t agree. Do you think gta IV would’ve felt less like GTA if the first half of the game took place in Serbia? I definitely don’t think that would warrant a completely different IP. That’s too drastic of a conclusion to come to imo

I gotta be honest though I do think we're closer to an announcement than some think, even going off the GTA Online DLC and what's being found within it. There's gonna be extra Creator options unlocked, along with an Adversary Mode creator anyone will be able to use, and a Community Series where jobs and new modes will be shown off.

This seems like a very obvious sign that R* might be shifting GTAO to be more community maintained (the community keeps part of it fresh instead) so they can fully focus on GTA VI - and I feel like this shift is coming with an announcement or teaser anywhere from now to the end of the year. Same thing with all the quality of life changes they're doing after all these years to GTAO, making it more solo-friendly, etc. It's probably far from being a full goodbye to that game, there's certainly gonna be updates still, but I do feel like it's gonna be slowed down significantly to give way for the behemoth - perhaps it could become yearly like RDO. The story in the GTAO DLC also feels like they're trying to tie loose ends sooner rather than later.

This is all speculation, of course. But I sense a calm before the "storm".

"There's no way GTA V releases in two years, 2013" - R* fans in 2011

"There's no way that this time, RDR2 releases in two years in 2018, after GTA V's delays, Rockstar will have learned" R* fans in 2016

Something something always a two year wait...

Maybe the real reason why all the gaming companies delayed their games out of BlackFriday/christmas sales to early/mid 2023 is because they know r* will announce gta6 in oct/nov :shillkek:

You should know Rockstar's strategy, you are an OG and participated during GTA V and RDR2 releases! 😂

...yea, it would.

This isn't really speculation from my part, it's literal fact that GTA is heavily built on American culture, it's a massive part of what makes the series what it is, with many features inspired or designed around it.

You take the US away and you end up with a game that's not GTA. It might still be an urban crime game, but it wouldn't feel like GTA.

A profile picture change on social media tomorrow and an official announcement Tuesday would be interesting.

You know what? R* is announcing VI in November to take revenge of GOTY 2018.

Hmm not sure. If we take 3D Vice City, for example, I don't see a strong American influence there tbh. It's a betrayal/revenge story wrapped around a nice looking city. Which could be any other tropical location, like the Bahamas or Costa Rica etc., and it wouldn't affect the tone of the game in my opinion. Tbf Vice city is one of the earlier games with less depth in the story, and yet it still has that 'GTA feel'.

You play an Italian American mob member who just got out of prison in a 80's version of Miami heavily inspired by things like the drug cartels's influence in the US at that time, American films like Scarface, etc.

Then you have the music, the fashion, even things like the big massive American malls.

The game literally screams 80's America lol.

Vice city, recreated over 20 years later, with the technology we have today, I can't wait 🤤

I'd say GTAIII, and more specifically, Vice City served as the blueprint of the series as we know now, both tonally and mechanically. If Vice City was set in Costa Rica as you say, the franchise could've gone in a very different direction.

GTA is a British satire of America, and you simply can't remove America from it without changing the core identity of the series.
