Left is GTA Online, not right. Right is GTA IV/TBoGT lol.

Sorry, I do know that but what I meant was how the hell did the graphics downgrade so badly from TBoGT, Tony looks like he's had plastic surgery!!

Yes thank you I was starting to think I'm the only one that doesn't want this to be 80's Miami Vice / Scarface / Outrun inspired game all over again. Every single fanmade logo I've seen on here looks practically the same, always retro styled and pink/light blue colored – I think (and hope) they'll go in a completely new direction

70s, 80s, 90s or early 2000s I wouldn't mind if we saw those. The game will feel like a time machine. They can still happen as DLCs while keeping their main games in modern setting. Not many people  seem to like different time periods, but to me they can be very interesting with what rockstar  are capable of with today's hardware. Also not before 1970s as other games like Mafia might want those.

I love the 80s and modern setting, I don't think the 80s were done properly 20 years ago, the colors and the music don't mean much as the 80s were far more than that. The newretrowave stuff is inspired by the 80s but is mostly modern. They overdo it at times tbh.

Judging by the leaks, I'd argue that in terms of aesthetics, no visual style whatsoever will be implemented, and they will just go for more or less pure realism, ripping off Miami as it is. It's very much akin to what they did with Los Santos in V. There too no particular style was utilized.

Yes, you could be right. Kind of started with IV. It's not visually striking thematically like Vice City (2002) is. It's just is what it is.  If that's what it is and it's more serious tonally, I'd be happy. I don't nescessarily need a cultural pop stereotype of a city like Vice City (2002) is,  however much fun it is. I'm still curious of what GTA VI's logline will be. Remember GTA V's...

"A bold new direction in open-world freedom, storytelling, mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer, Grand Theft Auto V focuses on the pursuit of the almighty dollar in a re-imagined, present day Southern California."

I'm dying to hear how Rockstar are going to sell this story.

The list of films set in Miami isn't too compelling; Bad Boys, 2 Fast 2 Furious - kind of goofy GTA V-style films. If the tone is more serious, I'd like to see what kind of films or shows they might look to reference and/or be inspired by.

Krotchys Will

Is "GTA VI" just a placeholder or didn't the leaks imply the title "GTA Americas" (given that the world will be more and more expanded and enhanced throughout time after Florida only initial release)?

Some good films but and I can see a Spring Breakers nod but definitely not Moonlight or The Florida Project. Not saying I don't want to them referenced.. Miami Vice remake just seems to predictable at this stage. I would think Rockstar were running out of ideas id they did a Miami Vice remake reference.. unless it's a very tongue-in-cheek reference or a self-parody of Rockstar making references to films. Very meta! 😛  Or maybe they can't make a new Vice City without a reference to that film. Who knows.

Nothing on the level of Scarface, Heat, Boyz In Da Hood, Menace II Society. Those were all quite huge films of the time and referenced and documented heavily the pop culture of the time and locale, with perhaps the exception of Heat.

I hear ya. I for one actually can visualise GTA in many other cities other than the usual locations. I enjoy the TV show The Wire. And Baltimore I knew nothing of. The city itself is the star of the show. So, in that respect, I can no nothing of a city but I know Rockstar can make into a GTA city and I'll learn about and have fun seeing the city in films and TV shows.

I can sell Baltimore as a second city in a game but heavily inspired by The Wire. I can sell Boston if it took inspiration from films like The Town, The Fighter, The Departed, Black Mass. There are some great films to look at to take inspiration. I know Rockstar don't have to take inspiration from films but I think most enjoy the film references. The list of films set in Miami isn't too compelling; Bad Boys, 2 Fast 2 Furious - kind of goofy GTA V-style films. Going from sunny coastal to sunny coastal wasn't my idea of something new and kind of hoped for a more dank grey east coast city. I'm definitely not hating on Miami either. I'm excited for it, I'm just trying to see the inspiration for it other than "Rockstar haven't done this city in HD" That's isn't inspiration, that's checklisting.

Definitely felt like checklisting to me whenever people suggested Vice City is next - I always assumed Rockstar would go for something unexpected for that reason. Those Liberty/Carcer rumours sounded pretty thrilling to me! I'm sure for the Housers the film influence was a big part of building the settings. It feels like part of GTA's DNA. I'm sure my trepidation will ease as soon as a trailer comes out anyway. That's a good point about The Wire/Baltimore - no reason why the right depiction couldn't make me interested in modern Miami, and Rockstar are more than capable of that.

I remember seeing this interview that Scarface wasn't as big back then and many hated it?, don't know the specific part or if it's this one but I do remember it.

Scarface didn't achieve its iconic status until many, many years after its initial release. At the time of its release, it was heavily divisive and definitely not a pop-cultural and commercial phenom like Pulp Fiction or The Godfather was for their years.

Scarface was way before my time but even as a kid I knew about it. It certainly was big by the 90's. I must watch the video but I think you are right. I didn't know this.

Echoing a few posts above regarding Miami Vice. The first two seasons were great and after that not so much… it went downhill by 1987 (a few episodes from later seasons weren’t too bad though but still)

Also, I’m glad this is a modern take on Vice City. I’m sure we’ll get the classic jabs here and there on radio ads and what not but modern day Vice City is definitely welcomed imo. All they should do is just bring back Fernando (I’m sure he’ll tell various stories from his life 40+ years prior in the city of decadence) or Maurice Chavez as I’ve mentioned a few times and I’m all good

"Americas" is a placeholder (well, more like a project codename, after Schreier's article it makes sense why it's called like that) and the game will be named "Grand Theft Auto VI"

Edit: Now I'm wondering. How is it that Schreier's article about GTA VI was not taken down by T2/R*? Did he have insider information or did they let him sneak some juicy info for us?

I think they could reference it doing Vice Squad 2.0

Why is everyone suddenly anticipating tomorrow already? What's special about the 21st October? What's Kifflom got to say about this? Why is existence so dreadful at times?

Spoiler

Because Schreier was actually working with Rockstar as a press officer...

Absolutely nothing. It's purely my own speculation, but I've never really thought they'd announce GTA VI on that date. But rather just "when it's ready". If they do it soon, it's more likely to be coincidental, imo.

Are you on about them announcing gta 6 on the 29th? If so, I can’t see them doing it too. If it’s not tomorrow I think it will be another date than the 29th.

I just mean I don't think Rockstar will announce it BECAUSE it's an anniversary. They will announce it because it's ready, whenever that may be. For example; GTA V wasn't announced after GTA III's 10th anniversary, but rather because that was when it was ready to show and October is when Rockstar typically like to reveal things.

That’s the most logical date. The 29th is the 20th anniversary of GTA Vice City, where GTA 6 is also based. If they announce it this month but not the 29th, they missed a golden opportunity.
