Ian Melcher Productions Presents: True Developments: Canon Banishment of Funds

Banishment of Funds (noun) (bân-îsh-“mint($)”-ûv-fûnds) - The disappearance of large amount of CA$H by one or more men.

Synonyms: robbery, heist

Well it sure is sad to state the fact that the “Canon Getaways” project & lifestyle was a flop. So we’ve been turning our minds to a new and true development: canon banisters. AKA, the most real and awesome selection or series of choices in heist.

Much of this is settled-&-agreed-upon. However, some of it will require further discussion, investigation, debate, and in the case of myself and my friends, cold hard cash, if we are going to hope to find further true developments.

Chapter 1: A True-Ass Theft of Jewelry

This one is easy as crap. A role-canon GTA gamer like me and you, when playing organically, will almost certainly run into Packie McReary robbing shop at some point early in-game as Franklin on his way back home. Packie plays a big-ass freakin’ role in the GTAIV story.

And Ricky? Well, as most of us know, he will be meeted-&-greeted in a story-style mission. Due to this, he is a character-into-prominence.

We can all agree that the smart approach is way more cool, creative, unique, movie-like, sensible, and overall a better choice for a canon-style heist.

So when we put it all together what he have is the smart approach, packie, ricky, and whatever generic driver we are forced to use who is competent (I think it’s Eddie Toh).

Chapter 2: Merryweather Post Pavilion by Animal Collective

This one we know the freighter is canon because the cargobob would be a huge continuity error, oh and also? The news articles say it happened this way anyways.

Chapter 3: Meet Me at the Bureau:

For this one? Uh, hello? The whole setup revolves around the janitor! Plus we get unique features with the fire-squad, plus it’s more realistic since it features fewer dooms (fewer deaths of men who work for government). Knock-knock! Hello? Anybody home? (in your head if you think rooftop is canon, that is, while knockin’ on your noggin in the same-ass style as Biff from back to future).

So, for this one, we know we want the firefighter style. Also Packie’s back you bitches! (In the same freakin’ style as the nude male at the begging of GTAIV). For the second gunman, here is where further discussion is needed. In the past I always picked the cheaper guy because his death doesn’t affect the takeaway, and also it feels a lot more cinematic for the guy to die. Also more realistic for at least one person to get killed on one of these heists. However you can argue for the more expensive gunman for consistency since we did it for the jewel store. I wonder which gives better dialogue on the car rides, anyways?

Chapter 4: Paleto is the Place For Me Hoe

This one? Easy as crap. Pick Packie since he speaks about Niko, POSSIBLY even canonizing the choice to murder Gerald from IV.

Chapter V:The Large Score

Smart approach, Taliana, Ricky, Packy, Chef

Why would anyone want to work with ricky though? Just because he’s the cheapest doesn’t mean he’s worth working with especially for the first heist

The reason he is canon is not because he’s cool or hip or awesome or cheap or does a good job or anything like that. It’s just because he plays a role in the story, with the life invader mission, and the fact he calls Michael afterwards. He’s a prominent character and as for me and my friends, after we explained who Ricky is, and sold our cars to pay Ian, and asked him for the green light on settling the score and canonizing Ricky for both jewel job and big score,  he said to us via email  “fine”

But again, why would Michael use an amateur when Paige proved herself more useful? He had to twist Lester’s arm to get Franklin into the heist, imagine how he’d have to convince Lester to use a guy who couldn’t even use antivirus software to be a hacker

This never happened in V. I hope you aren’t one of those people who tries to pass their fanon off as canon

i actually do understand using ricky in a story sense. he has a written arc from start to end if you use him in heists - ricky is the cheap option, but he gains experience every job and gets better and better. he ends up maxing out his stats by the end with a comparatively minuscule cut of the action, and this is reflected in the dialogue. down to him talking about not making the same mistakes he made last time, michael getting more and more appreciative of him, etc.

i used ricky in my very first playthrough and remember choosing him for the big score's silent approach, where michael actually says he's really proud of ricky for improving so much. i thought that was a cute touch: rounds out the trifecta of story-relevant 'cheapest/best' heist options with packie and taliana as picking out a diamond in the rough instead of choosing the biggest professionals you see

in terms of 'canon' its a tough call, partly because you arent allowed some of the picks in mission replays. i think they all make some degree of sense, and it ends up being their individual value as characters that works for me. you have obvious weak links like daryl johns and norm richards; you have redeemable mid-tier operators like feltz, welsh and karim denz; and you have the obvious consummate professionals that lester introduces you to off the bat. the gta online heists sort of infer he has work history with paige mota and toh, so it also makes plenty sense to work with the pre-established "crew" that lester has cultivated

personally i found myself wanting to manufacture some stakes and endeared to some of the lesser thugs you see. karim denz i ended up really liking: he has a similar character arc to lukens if you pick him at first. i really liked hugh welsh, who has screenwriter aspirations and ends up having the most pathos of the lot - if he survives the bureau raid he freaks out on the way back and gets really remorseful. i found myself using stanley on the paleto score because i liked the idea of him gushing at michael about his genius and irresponsibility before getting his comeuppance, but also found it funny to picture him surviving the encounter. would be funny to see him testifying on the stand. in my personal writing ive ended up opting for a canon loud big score approach with eddie toh, taliana, packie, and welsh. partly because im of mind that the house of cards comes tumbling down and they don't get away with the robbery - they seemed like the most fun characters to get wrapped up in the aftermath. hugh maybe writes a book!

It’s not even because it’s logical or makes sense story wise. It’s solely because it seems the most “intended” way of doing it, since the character is personally introduced in a unique way. This is the same reason I always use packie, Taliana, and chef where they can be used. Because they are special characters with unique relationships to the characters

Okay but that doesn't explain the double standard where Lester "doesn't work with amateurs" when it comes to Franklin but seems fine letting Ricky, who couldn't even work antivirus software, onboard this heist

They must have talked about it at some point off screen. The same way Franklin had to have told Michael about Packie
