Hey, I have a dumb question Re: 4k output

Hi all, I currently have a Samsung 40 inch tv that outputs 1080p.

I have an opportunity to get a 4K TV but I won't pull the trigger until I can confirm that GTA Online can run in 4k, 60FPS on my Ps5? I currently enjoy the FPS and graphical upgrade of the E&E version.

Whenever I google search each article seems to be talking about GTA 5, the single player portion.

So if I could get confirmation on this...would be helpful.

Thanks in advance

There are three performance modes to choose from: Performance, Performance RT, and Fidelity.

Performance will be upscaled [email protected] FPS. Upscaled 4K isn't true native 4K, but it's close enough.

Performance RT is performance mode, but with Ray Tracing activated. Still 60FPS, but will be more likely drop at certain times.

Fidelity is true native 4K, but with a huge hit in the FPS department. FPS will be 30FPS or less.

Im no console guy, but i wonder how it is playing it in 1080p, are there even less FPS drops than with "Perfomance" mode? I mean theoratically the game should be even more smooth, just playing it in 1080p. Except of course the only reason the framerate drops is because of a CPU bottleneck, then it wouldn't make a difference.

How much noticeably nicer is the picture 4k vs. 1080?

The aliasing is almost non-existent. The difference is huge. Much more details.

Spoiler

On the other hand, Rockstar could have aimed for 1440p for its RT perf mode with 120fps. The difference between 4k and 1440p is less visible on our standard screen sizes.

The quality difference between 1080p and 1440p is bigger than the difference between 1440p and 4k. That's the impression I have (on my 24" screen).

The game is still being rendered at its target resolution, but the image is downscaled to fit res of your display. The last console to actually render games in different resolutions, thus enhancing framerate, was PS3, though PS4 Pro was such a mess you could do that as well in select titles.

Wow that is such nonsense. R* are such lazy f*cks. They could have also offered variable refreshrate, i think some ppl got their PS5 connected to a 4K 120HZ TV that supports it.

Ultimate lazy loooooooool.

I was going to make a post about something similar the other day, to my knowledge when the E&E version dropped the Fidelity Mode was sh*t and did little, but I recently put it on that mode out of boredom and the difference now is insane. Give the game some time to adjust and the game looks amazing, if you have not, give it a try, the reflections pop and the quality of the cars looks great.

Thanks to everyone for their replies! Still slightly confused. I'm pretty sure I run in Performance mode right now, would have to double check when I get home...I love the 60FPS and the other modes seem to generate too much coil whine on my ps5. It's actually noticeable if I'm not wearing my headset

So my understanding is if I get this 4k tv and continue to run in performance mode I'll see better visuals and keep the 60 FPS? If so....I'm buying it!

It's upscaled 4K. That's if your display is capable of supporting 4K.

The Fidelity mode is definitely a pretty big difference. The quality looks sharper, and the reflections look better, but the FPS makes the game almost unbearable to play.

The entire thing just pops! If I am just messing around in Invite Only I will leave it on Fidelity but for Public Lobbies or with friends it's Quality RT.
