Got Number 17 without firing my gun... a part of me wants to try to get all of them with the SRS killing the cops so I only have 3 stars(as a bit of an insurance policy for later), but a part of me knows that would be insanely risky...I dunno

Got 19, still at 3 stars, still at 8 armor, still got all 5 stars. This is a damn near perfect run.

I'm scared. I could still very easily blow myself up if I'm not careful.  I'm gonna only weaken the cars to the point that they're on small fire, should make it easier to aim and reduce the risk of chain explosions. Maybe I'll just judge on the location(IE: The parked cars with plenty of space can be set fully on fire while the tightest packed at the pack might not need to be shot at all).

Ok, there was a bit of a scare, but I got the 20th. All here, all parked, spaced pretty well, and I've only got 3 stars and armor to spare so theoretically I could off a a cop car if I accidentally double sploded one.

Now...I just gotta make a judgement call. The more I damage the cars, the more time I save(both good for not failing and potentially giving me time to find a wild car if I come up short)....but the more I damage the cars, the more likely I am to accidentally chain explode one, or accidentally blow one up I'm too close to.

Ok, I fully damaged the parked cars, and only half damaged  the interior ones.

WISH ME LUCK

I f*ckING WON!

(Also holy sh*t I accidentally walked into the door that exits the level, but backed out JUST in time to avoid that and enter the correct save door......whew)

Brilliant! Now the rest should be easier. That’s the hardest part of the game done, and perhaps the hardest part of the series, with the only competion being a few missions in GTA: London 1961.

That would have been awful if you had walked through the Continue door after all that, even worse than being wasted or busted.

Got the two Molotov Cocktail ones done(the one next to the Church and the one where Token 19 was), no funny business needed. Anyway, I'm gonna collect all the remaining tokens now that I have some lives to work with. I've got 22 ATM.

At least they were easier. I forgot to mention, if you get a PS3, don’t get the 20GB model. Granted, this is extremely unlikely, as it was only on the market from November 2006 to April 2007 and as such is extremely rare, but it’s important to know as it lacks Wi-Fi and therefore can’t use Adhoc Party. It’s easy to tell it apart from the others as it’s a fat PS3 but is black all around with the exception of the PS3 logo.

I’m looking for an original model(I generally always go for Model 1 with a few exceptions like 360 because red ring), that’s Wi-Fi capable, PS2 backwards compatible, and as large as possible storage so that’s not a problem. What do I want?

The one you want is the 60GB PS3, model CECHA01. This is a launch model. This can play 99% of PS2 games flawlessly, can take SD cards, Memory Sticks and Compact Flash cards, has four USB ports and can play Super Audio CDs. It has a chrome trim in front. It's better than every other model PS3 out there, with the exception of two things:

  • Around 10% of the PS2 library is capable of outputting at 480p, which is a higher resolution than the standard 480i. The 60GB PS3 can output this, but can only upscale PS2 games from 480i. The later 80GB PS3 (first 80GB model, four USB ports, model CECHE01) can upscale from 480p. It also has sharper graphics for PS2 games. However, it can only play around 80% of PS2 games, some of which have glitches when played on this model. Overall, the 60GB PS3 is better.
  • Older PS3s can be unreliable. The Yellow Light of Death, while not nearly as prevalent as the XBOX 360's RROD, is still an issue. In recent years, the PS3's NEC/TOKIN capacitors have been identified as a common cause of this. Try to get a console that has had these replaced. It's no guarantee though, there are other causes. Just make aure to backup your data regularly.

Make sure to download the PS2 System Data from the PS Store. A few PS2 games can save data to the PS2 hard drive (which you could buy separately). This allows faster load times and cutscenes instead of images in some cases. This software allows them to do this on PS3. The list of games that support this is here.

If you have any PS1 or PS2 saves on memory cards, you can buy the PS3 memory card adapter to transfer them to the PS3's hard drive. Also, if it doesn't come with one, make sure to buy a Dualshock 3. PS3s until 2008 originally came with a Sixaxis controller, which lacks rumble. Unfortunately, fake Dualshock 3 controllers are common.

You can replace the hard drive and install a larger capacity one. This is officially supported and is very easy to do. It is detailed here. The PS3 supports up to 1TB of storage. It takes a 2.5" SATA hard drive. Make sure to get a 7200RPM hard drive (you should be able to see this in the hard drive listing) for the fastest speeds.

You'll get Wi-Fi, full PS1 and PS2 game support, HDMI, access to PSN (as long as it remains up) and of course complete access to the excellent PS3 game library. As long as it doesn't have a hardware failure it's one of the best consoles ever made.

This one with the 20 cops and the machine gun is infuriating. I've come SO close SO many times. While it also probably wasn't tested well, compared to the Electro-Gun one(which was so badly mis-tested even 5 would be hard) this one feels like....I dunno, changing it to 15 would be perfectly fine.

There's a weird thing where for some reason cops just sometimes refuse to get out of their cars, or keep getting in and getting out....

There's always a catch. Like Manhunt 2, which for the record basically doesn't have a legitimate definitive version. (The Wii Version looks the best, but is the most censored and has motion controls shoved in. The PSP version is the least censored, but is on a tiny screen and has the worst controls. The PS2 version is kinda in the middle, but has the worst graphics....I'll probably just buy the PS2 version for the collection and play the game with the modded PC version that has all the censorship removed and the level scoring feature added back in.  What was I talking about....oh yeah, that does sound best.

Also, where does one identify the 60 gb CECHA01 part on the console? The people who actually know all this sh*t tend to charge 300 bucks for the model, I'm looking for people on local sites that sell it for like 40-60 bucks, but I need to be able to tell them where to check.

It’s on the back, near the HDMI port, as  shown on this site. Just be aware that one you get for cheap may be more likely to get YLOD. It’s hard to know really.

I have the digital version of Manhunt 2 on Amazon. I believe it can no longer be legitimately obtained on PC. That’s the least censored official version, but there is a beta PS2 version you can get that is less censored again.

Yeah, unfortunately that PS3 is ludicriously more expensive then the other models. Checked with my local game shop, they have 9 slims each for 80 bucks and a single fat one for 350

The problem is that it was only produced from November 2006 to June 2007. That’s only seven months. Of these, a certain amount will already have YLOD, though some of these have been fixed. Furthermore, it has such a lucrative feature, PS2 compatibility.

To compare, the best XBOX 360 model is probably the Arcade XBOX 360 S, to which a 500GB HDD can be added. The best model Wii is probably the original one that can play GameCube games. Both of these were produced for a number of years.

I'm pretty sure that's the 360 I have, it's black, it's slim, I've got an external HD. I have a cousin though that's had a white day 1 360 that's been working through 3 moves so, ya know, sh*t happens. I'm fairly certain the majority of PS3s with YLOD have probably been weeded out by now, same with how if you still have an old 360 it's probably fine by now.

Oh, and on a side note, which style of PS3 case you do prefer? The 2006-2009 one or the 2009-2014 one(I'm excluding the Blue one they used briefly at the end). Some games come in both options(Like GTA 4 and Katamari Forever, both of which I intend on getting) so I'm curious on your thoughts. Personally I prefer the front of the older ones and the side of the newer ones

the XBOX 360 Elite in 2007 fixed RROD. All 360s from mid-2008 onward are fine. Your cousin has a working launch 360? That's actually not too common these days. I'm glad we have more reliable hardware today. Between the XBOX 360's RROD and the PS3's YLOD that generation was especially unreliable. The Wii was fine, but since that was essentially a slightly more powerful Gamecube it was much easier for it to be reliable.

I actually agree with you, the front of the old cases and the side of the new cases are best. If I had to pick I'd probably take the old ones, but either are great, really. Get GTA IV and EFLC separately and on disc. Even though they take up more space that way, the digital versions have songs removed, so the physical versions are better.

FYI I already have GTA 4 and EFLC on disc for 360(which I've heard is considered the best version, in the 7th generation Rockstar clearly favored microsoft, most games came out first there, 360 games looked ever so slightly better, and there's a few exclusives like Bully Scholarship and Table Tennis), but given how cheap that whole generation is these days I'd probably snag the PS3 versions like because.

I looked at a list of PS3 exclusives, literally the only one that caught my eye was Katamari Forever(which I rented a couple times like a decade ago, and from what I've read is the best of the two 7th gen games and is probably 3rd best overall behind the two PS2 originals). Granted, that doesn't include games that were on Wii and PS3, or PS3 and PC, and just not 360(Which I doubt there are many of, but they probably exist) or games with additional features on PS3(Like that Toy Story 3 game that was the sh*t as a kid, the PS3 version had a few extra minigames and Zerg), and there's probably some great games I just ain't familiar with, but point stands. 360 is my go to for 7th gen just like PS2 was for 6th gen

Oh, I completely agree. With a few exceptions, multi platform games are superior on 360 to PS3. Sometimes there’s a good PC port, or the Wii version makes great use of motion controls. It’s a really great system. Sony really messed up with the Cell processor and so usually got the worse ports.

For sixth gen I usually play either PS2 or XBOX. PS2 sometimes has better controls due to its controller (I also grew up with it), but the XBOX was the most powerful, usually has better graphics and all but 20 of its NTSC games support 480p. So it depends on the game really.

Xbox had better graphics and by far the better live(Gamecubes online was basically non-existent, and the PS2s was non-centralized and kinda bleh. Xbox classic was the first system to have a truly well put together online, and even to this day services like Xlink Kai make the most popular games like Halo still viable this way), but a smaller library and worse controller. As I said, while technically the Xbox versions of the PS2 GTAs had better textures and lighting, it pretty much always came at a cost, like the Xbox Version of San Andreas just completely breaking a bunch of textures, the Xbox version of Vice City having censorship, and the Xbox version of 3 having nearly unusable shooting controls due to the lack of extra triggers adding a terrible input delay.

6th generation BTW is the oldest generation I can go back to and still feel like I'm getting a fully in depth gaming experience. Every prior to that, while I've enjoyed many games, comes off more gimicky to me in hindsight having grown up with 7th gen)

PS3 and Xbox 360 are almost one to one, but 360 had a pretty big head start and the only reason PS3 caught up was because the Red Ring of Death stalled out Xbox for a year, Microsoft tried way harder to push their motion control gimic, and PS3 had better games in the last year or two.

Any notable cases of games only on PS3 and Wii and excluding 360, or PS3 games that are simply better than 360 games due to extra features? Or even exclusives that I might like that I've simply never heard of. I'm trying to justify this purchase as being more then just an excuse for Adhoc Party for a couple of PSP games. My gaming tastes are pretty varied, and excluding strategy games(always best on PC) I guess Sandbox is probably my fav genre.....but I like the occasional platformer or stealth game from time to time, even some puzzles or retro collections.

(P.S.. I know XBLA Arcade techically started on the original Xbox with a small set of games, some of which were availible by demo disc....would it be possible to get an Original Xbox with ALL of them, there's a rather small number? Could you somehow transfer them, I doubt that generation had much in the way of checks. Just curious)

I can't think of any PS3/Wii exclusive games. I would have recommended the Uncharted trilogy and The Last of Us, but they're on PS4 (and can be played on PS5). As far as PS3 exclusives go, there's InFamous 1, 2 and Festival of Blood (all sandbox games), MGS4 (stealth), GT5, GT6, Puppeteer, the Resistance Trilogy, Killzone 2 and 3, Demon's Souls, the Ratchet and Clank Future trilogy (platformer) and God of War 3, as far as I can think of anyway, I might be forgetting a few. There's the Joker as an exclusive playable character in Batman: Arkham Asylum and extra content in 007: Goldeneye Reloaded but I can't think of much else with exclusive content. Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection uses the pressure-sensitive buttons of the PS3 controller for MGS2 and MGS3 in the same way that the PS2 versions do. All five games in the collection also allow transfer of saves between PS3 and PS Vita (and PSP in the case of MGS: Peace Walker).

One thing I was surprised at when filling out my seventh gen collection was the sheer amount of multiplatform games on PC. I thought there were far fewer. My rule for these games is PC>XBOX 360>PS3 unless there's some reason to do otherwise, like a bad PC port or exclusive content on 360 or PS3.

It should be possible to get the XBLA games on Original XBOX as long as it's softmodded. Doubtful on an unmodded one aside from the demo discs.

I can't think of too many RTS games on console actually. The only one that comes to mind is the PS2 port of Age of Empires II.

It's also unclear if Adhoc Party's servers are even still up. As recently as 2018 they were but that doesn't mean they still are. I might see if I can create an Adhoc Party game later. As difficult as they are to setup to play online, the advantage of GTA 1, London and GTA 2's direct IP support is that they'll always be playable online. They don't depend on external servers. We were able to play GTA 1 online 25 years after it was released.

To be fair Fan Servers will probably always exist for consoles in some form, and techncially Adhoc Party was basically a Sony sanctioned version of what Xlink Kai does(spoofing local LAN/System Link play when it's really online) so the PSP is probably fine. It's ideal if people can get the critical info before hand and make a TRUE Fan server(Like what the Wii and DS has, and while it's really only popular for Mario Kart, Smash, Animal Crossing, and Soccer on Wii, and Mario Kart and Pokemon on DS, the fact it's there is amazing and especially Pokemon Black and White, and Mario Kart Wii, have large communtiies), but even something like Xlink Kai that fakes it is great for Halo fans on the original xbox. I doubt it would be hard for someone to do something with the PSP akin to it.

Funnily enough I just checked and I own one of them. Phienas and Ferb across the second dimension. It's on PS3, Wii, and PSP(Plus a completely different game on DS), but no 360 release. And like I mentioned, the Toy Story 3 game on PS3 I tried as a kid had Zurg minigames not on 360. There's surely a few out there. Already have Arkham Asylum on both systems.

I haven’t beaten this one unfortunately. Maybe you can lure them from their cars at roadblocks and take care of them one by one. Then there’s the SWAT Team and special forces to consider. At least you got the Uzi one beaten. That's another one down on the 'impossible' kill frenzies list.

Looking at the remaining ones, that actually might be the hardest one left. Cops with Electrogun and flamethrower seems easier than Uzi(especially flamethrower)

, and 20 cars with RPG seems fine.

Also managed to fix the live on my 360 after two years of not using it. Thanks for the motivation. Remind me to snag a copy of Garden Warfare for One though, the 360 servers are pretty dead. At least I have WAW ;)

Anyway, I’m out of town for a few days. Take care

(P.S. With all the third party controllers out there, the fact that seemingly no one ever made a replica of the Boomerang Controller from 2005 annoys me. I’d kill to play a PS3 with that)

Can’t right now, I’m away for the next week. I’ll check when I get back. I’d be interested to know if the servers are still up.

Got to 10 kill frenzys done(saving the shotgun one for near the end), gonna knock out all the Yellow missions remaining, maybe a few reds. Saving Tanks-Giving just in case I need it for the Shotgun one(I didn't use it for the prior ones as it felt cheap, but apparently it's NOT a glitch or cheating, you could use KFs during missions in GTA 1 too. It's just using intended mechanics in unintended ways...which is how I beat the car ones)

(Also had a scare where one seemed to be missing, turned out the guide had the location mixed up with a different one

No, definitely not cheating. I beat the mission to kill the president in GTA 1 Vice City using a kill frenzy. Shame you can’t do it in later games though.
