It would be nice to have multiple free mode variations

This was something I've wanted since Day 1, like in RDR, and I still am a bit disappointed this was never implemented. The idea of having different types of Free Mode could really shake things up.

The ideas I have are pretty simple and obvious, but would be great:

  • Standard - The normal free mode that's already in the game.
  • No Cops - Obviously, no police. No wanted level for committing crimes or engaging in shootouts with other players... thus one could have uninterrupted firefights, and with no outside factors determining who wins.
  • Passive - No PvP combat, which means no one can directly harm each other. This emphasizes friendly interactions and teamwork without fear of griefers.
  • Hardcore - 60% health, no auto-aim, no passive mode, extra damage, players only show up on map when firing a weapon, are wanted by police, or have a bounty.

Is it kind of surprising this was never implemented in GTA Online? It seems obvious to me to have multiple options for the main focus of the game, like there was before. Has anyone else ever thought of this?

Been wanting the friendly sessions from RDR1 since day one and was surprised they didn't exist.

By now, I'm not surprised anymore, just disappointed.

Is it really surprising given how updates are designed with those things in mind? Like the No Cops in your examples, plenty of missions require you to fight your way through hordes of police officers or have to lose them, it won't work in that type of lobby.

This could never work because of shark card sales. If ppl can just farm money in peace less shark cards get sold.

They hope ppl get frustrated by griefers to the point they just open up their wallet. That's why we are still forced to sell cargo, drugs, weapons etc. in public sessions.

But i honestly don't understand why it's possible to do Cayo Perico heist setups and all in a friends only session, or night club popularity missions, or delivering customer cars, i think the Agency security contracts can be done in friends only session too,  but im not sure atm, been a while since i did them. Payphone assassinations are also doable in friends only sessions.

Everything should be doable in private lobbies, but no this will not happen.

They could do something really mean, and only offer ppl that have the GTA+ subscription all jobs in private lobbies. They would earn a lot of money doing this. Damn i shouldn't give them ideas like this. :D

That's unproven, though. It's also entirely possible that people are willing to spend more on microtransactions on a game that they enjoy and doesn't frustrate them. For example, I bought a season pass in Fortnite because I actually enjoyed the game and found it fun, fair and balanced. I didn't mind spending some money on it because I enjoy it and knew I would get something worth my money. In GTA Online however, there's no reason for me to buy a shark card. Even the most expensive one is barely enough for 2-3 vehicles + customization, it's entirely possible that I will lose some amount of that money I bought due to a modder or a glitch. I also don't want to spend money on a game that just seconds before frustrated me to the point of giving up.

Whales buy either way. They always do. But until there's a study done, I will always assume that the reason why most games go for frustration and grind to get money over just making a good, balanced, fair and fun game is that they're run by cold blooded bastards that have lost all connection to the real world and the everyman. I mean, for f*cks sake, Fortnite is making f*cking bank off of nothing but cosmetics. You don't get better weapons because you spend money, you don't get any advantage. Your gameplay experience is the exact same. Yet they're rolling in enough cash that they can use it to get publishers to release their games exclusively there. I am convinved that every game would be making *more* from microtransactions if they had a fair economy, no massive grind, no frustrating game design etc., because, like I said, whales will pay anyway. The average person probably won't. At least not more than once after they realize they've been ripped off.

Having more options like this would be amazing.

As far as hardcore mode goes, I don't understand the point of having both "60% health" and "increased damage", that seem odd. Meaning it'll kinda be like 40-50% effective health then, might as well make it 40-50% from the get-go.

It's almost as if they force you to play with players you don't want to play with in order to experience "dynamic and exciting events" but in reality it just drives sharkcard sales.

Should have

Solo - all the detail single player offers and no other players can join

Public - Current online

Custom - Players can choose the settings such as invite only/public,  no cops,  passive,  etc

Bethesda tried doing the same with Fallout 76 in the beginning, griefers and peaceful players were playing on the same servers. The playerbase was so pissed and complained so loud that they changed how PvP works in the game first, then at some point they almost completly deactivated it.

They also offered private servers at some point with Fallout 1st, a subscription model like GTA+ is.

I could really imagine R* offering peaceful lobbies for real life money.

All I ever wanted was a map free lobby. No map no blips

how hard can that be?

Almost all game activities require the map to function; they are not designed for a mapless existence. I could see a mode with no player blips, though (or blips only when you are near someone and can see or hear them).

As for the main topic of the thread here, at minimum the game should have friendly lobbies. I guess they're raking in money and so have no incentive to care, but the game experience would be so much better for so many players if people who don't want to fight (or be trolled) could be in lobbies where they can interact with others without being hassled and killed. The way Rockstar forced PvP and PvE play to essentially coexist is why a great many players hate the game they're playing.

they even changed it in RDR2 online, because of all this griefing and boom boom.

I got no idea, why they didnt made some options, like passive or PvE mode.

I play almost only private servers since 2013, because public does not feel like a dynamic world, with immersive events...it feels like a small map FFA deathmatch.

Just wait and see, the time hasn't come yet.
GTA+ supscriptions are the future for invite only lobbies, as soon enough people have bought and gone over to GTAO on next gen consoles...
Say next year (2023)???

These already exist in some form via invite/crew/friends only sessions.

You're just penalized for using them by being unable to profit while in one.

They know their a.i. is flawed and predictable, thus no amount of 5,000% damage bullets and 10,000% body armor NPCs will cause as much harm to a sale as a tryhard with a teeny pee pee and a mkii.

Thats why they force sales in public sessions.
