Has anyone else been playing as an anti-griefer?

If I see someone selling cargo or anything like that and I'm not doing anything I'll drive/fly alongside and escort/cover them, especially if a tryhard is harassing them. I'm not even good at the game but I know if I had someone f*cking with my sale or whatever I'd appreciate the help.

Obviously 25% of the time it backfires and I get the sh*t blown out of me by the seller, but I can't blame them for that considering how toxic the game usually is - doesn't;t really matter does it, just a game and it's fun to be nice in the sea of hate that is freemode.

I like to mess with people with RC vehicles (bump them or bring cops to them)

Another thing I like doing is getting a Pyro and shooting down Jets. I am rusty as hell but luckily, most are trash so it is easy to take them down.

My advice is to leave people alone and go about your own business. You have no idea why people do what they do and acting as a vigilante or guardian angel is adding to the problem of griefing by becoming one yourself.

People might have been griefed themselves recently and are getting revenge, or could be kids having fun or people de-stressing after a long day at work.

The reality is, you're looking for action and justifying that behaviour as an unlicensed good guy, which is probably why Rockstar have never given us police outfits and vehicles over nine years.

The reality is, Rockstar want us to fight, squabble and niggle in freemode because it causes friction and is profitable for them. At least adversary modes give us the option to fight without griefing AND get paid.

I think I know a real griefer when I see one.

GTA is a roleplaying game, and 'vigilante' is a valid role.

I've been doing some anti-jet-griefing. Explosive rounds on the Mk II heavy sniper, perched on a high building with Imani's Out of Sight ability are pretty effective.

The knack is not to kill the griefer so you keep your off the radar status. Just make the plane smoke and they generally flee and bail.

I don't kid myself I'm doing it from a sense of righteous justice - it's just something different to do in the game.

Sometimes i use my Toreador to hunt down Oppressor MK2 griefers, it works pretty good, if the "pilot" is a noob. If it's real try hard griefers, i try other ways to kill them, sometimes i also use a OPMK2 myself to hunt them, yeah i know shame on me, but sometimes you got no choice.

But honestly mostly i just mind my own business, and im happy im not the target, and if i wanna play seriously and wanna grind real money, i do that in a solo public session with ip filter, or i just lag out every once in a while.

Acting as a vigilante peacekeeper is noble, but trying to solve griefing problems in a video game in which the developer actively encourages it is pointless. You will always meet friction from people who state their right to do what they want in a game that they pay for, etc.; who will jump sessions and team up in crews with other griefers. We are not the law; we have the right to defend ourselves and ask for better anti-griefing tools from Rockstar, but acting as the judge will not help remove griefing over the long term.

Gonna be honest, back when I was more than willing to get into a fight against tryhards and griefers to defend my fellow crewmates, I didn't do it out of a self righteous sense of justice or to teach them a lesson, but rather to both buy time for my crewmates to either finish their sales before bailing out of the lobby and, most importantly, to make tryhards and griefer's playtime as unpleasant and frustrating as possible.

Did that technically made me a griefer too in retrospective? Perhaps, but as we say here in Mexico, "ladrón que roba a ladrón, tiene 100 años de perdón" ("a thief who steals from thieves has a hundred years of forgiveness").

Just as berating @SHOKKERZ91 is going to get his back up and lead to a fight in this thread. Let him have his say as a griefer, and respect his play style as you expect yours to be respected, but at the same time, cool it, man... being the griefing antagonist doesn't sit well with most people.

While I'm not going to berate anyone from participating in this thread regardless of their position in the matter, I can't actually respect a playstyle (or those who indulge in that very playstyle) that pretty much revolves about disrespecting other player's enjoyment and time while playing a game, no matter if it's technically fair game or not.

Maybe people could set up a task force crew [TASK] or something if they really feel strongly about clearing the airwaves of griefers? @Yellow Dog with Cone, for example. I won't be joining, but I see a lot of role-playing requests and an anti-griefing task force might be a good idea for people with very strong feelings?

Personally, I haven't been in an anti-griefer crew but I've seen several and most of the time, they end up imploding from the inside and dissolving, or worse, end up being targeted en masse by the very same griefers they're futilely trying to fight against.

And believe me, having any lobby you set foot in being instantly flooded by people targeting you is far from pleasant.

It's just too much hassle for barely any reward, if there's one at all.

Seriously? Do I care who is right or wrong at this point and what their morals and motives are for playing this game? No. Do I like friendly players? Yes, very much.

Last night I logged on for a Sunday evening session into a default public assisted-aim lobby and I couldn't do a thing. The NC promotion mission went quite well until I got zapped, followed by a revenge kill, followed by some laughable dude wiggling and manically weapon switching/launching outside my facility while being attacked by a hit squad I sent so that I could observe him. I got owned and I didn't care. You have no idea how idiotic you look until you observe someone else doing it :D.

I then switched to a free-aim lobby and had a surreal experience with groups of people I know and have come across before. Three guys in assorted military vehicles, swooping past with lock-on beeps while criss-crossing each other for a couple of hours. Two chaps doing import/export deliveries, HONKING their horns at me instead of running me down. Not a single bullet or missile fired at or against anyone during the whole session.

The difference in being able to go about your business in peace and chill and enjoy and relax is immense. That's what I can't be bothered to get into long-term skirmishes with other people, because I manage my f*cks too carefully these days.

Nah. This scans as excuse-making. Years of experience tells me that the majority of low levels and grinders mostly want to be left alone. A lot of them barely ever fight, which you can tell from a quick look at their player stats. I see so many KDs below 0.2 out there running crates; these guys clearly can't even defend themselves, let alone attack anyone else successfully. Are there some mindlessly aggro noobs attacking anything they can? Sure, always. But most of them aren't like that and you can usually tell the difference. Most of the aggro types also don't do business missions much because they don't have the attention span for it.

More excuse-making. Yes, it sucks to get chewed out or killed by a wannabe Batman who doesn't know that the low-level you're killing attacked you first and repeatedly. But that doesn't happen much, and really doesn't justify not taking the time to scan the lobby your own self once in a while. If you've played this game longer than a year, you should be able to tell griefing from regular fighting or revenge kills. There are infinite clues: the relative levels of the two players, the relative KDs, the gamertags (guaranteed that xIIIIIIIIIIIx vs. BlinkySnowman is a griefing situation almost always), the outfits (thermal helmet tatted up lunatic vs. schlub in generic, free GTA clothes for instance), the tactics (one guy going ghost, using jet or Mk II, while the other guy basically stands there and dies), the numbers (2v1 or worse with a tryhard crew going after a lone grinder), on and on. Not to mention, if you have a level 50 or below running crates and the other guy is blowing up his sh*t, that is not justified or a fair fight like 95% of the time. It is surpassingly rare for a low level to actually manage to kill a high level tryhard, then go start up their crate sale. Come on.

I mean, I don't care if you do or don't ever want to help out other players. By all means, don't do it if you don't feel like it. But also don't dream up these far-fetched, rare scenarios as some kind of counter-argument against the whole idea of helping others out.

I never said players shouldn’t be helped and I have helped players. What I said was to make sure you know exactly what the f*ck is going on before you put on your white suit of armor is all. Do more than just sit on a building with your MK2 killing whomever you deem a griefer. You mentioned some of that very stuff so you know what the f*ck I meant.

Played this game for damn near a decade and know all the tricks sister f*cking tryhards use to get off.

Trust me you dont even need a bunch of people flooding a lobby, one guy with the magical ability to get into your session no matter what and a modded bank account (or orb spam glitch) is plenty.

Twat followed me around for a month and would orb me when I stepped foot in public. No matter what day of the week, no matter what time of day.

Still, the time he spend harrassing me, he didnt spend on blowing up cargo, sooo... win for me I guess.

I'm in this game since early 2020, and the safes of my Arcade/Nightclub/Agency keep the cash flowing; so now I find myself enjoying more doing a Biker job for 8K than running any kind of prep mission. And biker and CEO missions are good to lure away the scum from the grinders.

Grinding crates and doing business sales way back made me despise cargo griefers and abusive tryhards with a passion, so just like OP I prowl the map on my Deity to help sales go safer or offer my services to take players out of the beach or the airport if they're on a spawn-kill loop. But sometimes I just get the notifications we all know: 'X destroyed cargo from Y - Y left the lobby'. God, boils my blood to see a plane filled with hard earned crates being blown by a no-skill homming missile...

I suck at PvP of any kind, but I try my best to be at least as annoying as I can: bounties, mercenaries and professionals, RC toys, muggers, teleporting and off-radar ambushes. And every time they kill me, I come back for more.
In extreme cases when they do the thermal glitch on a Lazer and kill all of us non-stop and keep us grounded with no fair counter measure, I orb them and pay the bill just to see them teleport, go ghost or leaving the lobby.

So @ardy97, I think you're doing a valid gameplay, but try to get rid of that Opp MKII and get better on other types of PvP. That broomstick will only make you lazy and trigger-happy, and most of the time that bike just bring out the worst insticts of players.

Then we are very much on the same page. Yes, do your research, don't just make quick assumptions. But if you see a chance to help a low level getting abused by a genuine asshole, take it.
